How does TNR stop cats from killing animals? There's only one way I know of to fix this problem and thats with a bullet. That's the method I use to control feral cats in Australia. That way I have fixed the problem of them breeding and killing of fauna - problem solved.
It's ashame people who wanted cats in the first place weren't more responsible pet owners, then we wouldn't have this issue at all but because people are so pathetic at looking after them once they grow out of the cute stage.
Cats are great. I love cats. Cats make great pets. If you love animals, then you will love cats. I hope everybody adopts a cat, or 2 or 3, and lets it be a pet. Cats are cool and want to be loved.
@senorkaboom A local DOC/Council study in Wellington NZ asked local cat owners to record the numbers of birds/reptiles killed and brought home by domestic cats... These well fed and much loved cats (with bells etc) were killing thousands of native birds a year.

TNR is great, but is still "the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff". We need to tackle the problem where it begins and that is the mass breeding of companion animals and the sale of animals in pet shops. The pet trade has become an industry where everyone profits and the animal has become just another commodity. Tough measures to address this problem would attract opposition from the many who profit, but it must be done if we want to give companion animals the importance they deserve.
Cats are listed in the TOP 100 WORST INVASIVE SPECIES OF THE WORLD, in the "Global Invasive Species Database". If your government enforces invasive species laws then it is against the law to NOT destroy cats when found away from safe confinement and out in non-native habitat. It is your civic and moral responsibility to do so, someone's pet or not. If you criminally irresponsible pet-owners want to keep your invasive-species pets, keep them confined properly. Releasing them violates these laws.
Humans are always messing about with nature, make a mess of it, try to fix it, make a mess of it and so on. There were many species, then there were some...now just a few and tomorrow there will be non. How many humans are out there in the world, gowing in over populations and now they have made some human nations extinct. Sr Bow, the last of her kind died last year feb 4th 2010. Human even making each other extinct! Poor animals. People should be responsible.
so basically there are to meny of them and they neuter them so they cant reporduce... what if a high being did that to us just because we are human dosent mean we are above evrything
I trapped a feral tom after I could not stand to see a tumor in his ear that has been in his ear any more. It was becoming painful.
I worked with him for a week (so I could hold him and pet him on a harness safely) then I had him neutered, the (benign) tumor removed, and gave him his rabies shots.
As soon as he healed, I let him go.
He showed up on my porch one cold X-mas begging for food. He now has a nice home at a family friends. He was once a scared kitty, now he is a spoiled lover!
Honestly, a crusade to save all the living feral cats without regard toward anything or anyone else is so obviously ridiculous and one sided one would expect of a two year old or symptomatic of an emotional break or trauma in an adult possibly undiagnosed. Crusades like these are better confined to mental institutions, reserved as therapy. Compassionately speaking, these people deserve psychological treatment rather than contempt, but ignorance at the expense of society is almost medieval.
Feral cat TNR does not really work and allowing feral cat colonies everywhere is altering the natural echo system by introducing a mid size very effective predator and pushing certain animal species toward extinction. Cats are nice creatures but one should adopt a cat and care for it completely rather than subject everyone to their hobby. Kindness to animals is admirable but this is an excuse for an immature inconsiderate selfish indulgence expected from the psychologically underdeveloped.
I agree - the fault for feral cat populations rests squarely upon the shoulders of irresponsible pet owners.
However, If you Trap/Neuter/Return, you are still left with the problems of property destruction, blight, feces, disease and nuisance brought by feral cats, not to mention the very serious danger to people (especially children) from cat bites and scratches.
whats the problem with feral cats? they're just chilling in the wild. you can't tell me that they are having a serious impact on other species. its not like these things are a plague
In the world today there is a severe human over population crisis. Estimates on the number of humans is around 7 billion and they can be found in virtually every community. Humans are too stupid to be handled or easily adopted. They originate from horny humans whos former parents did not use protection and also from sluts. Humans have an impact on Native and North American wild life through a variety of roles, one is as a predator killing everything and Republicans. Spay or neuter retard humans.
feral cats aren't that hard to handle. we used to feed crowds of them all the time. until most of them either died from disease/escaped dogs or suddenly left. my sister took in the few that stayed, and it wasn't easy, but she eventually domesticated them. she's got over 20 cats now, most of them are kittens, and at least one of the adult cats is pregnant with her 3rd or 4th litter in the last 2 or 3 years.
@hsus that is so bad. you should leave the cats where they are. who cares what the humans say. the cats should be considered over the humans. not below and they should have priority over humans.
I have a lot of stray cats around my house, i feel sorry for them...they're actually cuuuute and have a long beautiful hair, people aroung here are so rude towards cats, so if i come near them, they attack me...i wanna take them but dunno how
Man, there is so many cats in American. I don't think many of them will be take in. Because there stray cats, feral cats, and now there is crazy people keep so many cats indoor.
I live in a suburb and i see this all the time... people buying cats/dogs from a pet store ( not a shelter :( and once they're not puppys/kittens anymore bye bye. Me personally have had over 3 dogs and about 8 cats, all from shelters
i agree with u,in italy where i come from its illegal to put down a healthy dog and cat
unlike here in uk where i live where they killl dogs like if they were flyies, and the ironic thing is that uk is considered the most animal lover country in europe.thats ridiculose
Great video! I'm glad you mentioned that many of the cats are tame enough to be adopted. I trap, neuter and so far, have found homes for everyone but two (who were released). Not enough TNR people mention that many of the cats are adoptable. Favorited!
It boggles my mind how bleeding heart idiots think it is OK to maintain feral cat populations. They non-native cats wipe out songbird populations!!! What about them??? Not only do birds have to deal with habitat loss, but the habitat that is left is full of neutered feral cats waiting to eat them!!! You HSUS idiots are so out of touch with nature it's laughable. DEATH TO ALL FERAL CATS!!!!!!!! LONG LIVE THE SONGBIRDS!!!!!!!!
@jeffwilliams1972 And your "bleeding heart" advocacy for "songbirds" is any different? The difference is that these songbirds never had a "domesticated home" to begin with. Many of these cats were abandoned by ignorant, dumb-assed IRRISPONSIBLE owners who were too damn lazy to assume lasting responsibility for their pets they once wanted. If you want to own a pet, GET THEM FIXED!!! "Bird" (particularily your "songbirds") have just as many predatory problems WITHOUT blaming it on the ferals.
@jeffwilliams1972 Not to pick on you or anything but since most song birds travel seasonally they aren't suffering habitat lost. Most feral cat live in urban area where there is no natural habitat. Mosts feral cats are not equip to be able to catch birds. Most birds stay in high places like tree tops and on roofs. Cats are not very good at climbing, at least not at a level to be able to catch a bird. Most feral cat diets consist of garbage they don't hunt very much. So stop watching Loony Tunes.
@ProphetGuardian you must not have a cat then. My current cat isn't allowed outside but growing up, I had an indoor/outdoor cat name Booties. He brought my mom home, birds, mice, rats, baby possums and even took on full grown possums. This was one bad ass cat. Cats are opportunistic hunters and yeah some may not be great climbers but giving the opportunity to catch a bird they are going to take it. Birds have to land on ground to eat worms sooner or later and a cat will wait for that opportunity
Actually we do this too. Somebody dumped of 5 cats, who had 5 cat, whose 5 babies had 5 babies, and so on. So we trapped them humanley and spayed/neutered them all. We even found them homes! Please get your pets spayed and neutered, and if you do not want them, go to the SPCA, do not dump them off =(
umm, thanks for that yasminbabyz00.theres only one problem - killing a human is a far more serious crime to killing animals. lol but thanks for youre comment
@Chiconspiricy- ...humans are overpopulated, what if you and your family were one of the ones thrown into the streets 'cuz no one liked you, what if you were trapped and removed of completely, including your mom, dad, siblings, children....etc... don't say shit like that unless you have an accurate purpose of saying so.
I went out my back door this AM and smelled cat piss, my new neighbors are "cat people". They even have their door open to their back porch to let these cats in during winter. This is outrageous!
Why is it my job to trap someones alley cats, and take them to our humane society-on my dime. I was scratched years ago by a wild cat that was on my car in my garage-this is an epidemic that needs addressed. There is NO talking to the retards who feed the cats, they don't care!
Wait, How is this cruel? It's what should be done. It's not like there killing the cats, There just keeping them from having more. Then, They live there lifes out as normaly. I help with TNR sometimes.
Thank you for making this video!!! :) I'm a current TNR volunteer. Sadly, it's hard to gain followers in a town that likes to complain and do nothing. :(
You should never kill an animal if its healthy and stable !! Otherwise i think its cruel! Its in-humane and it shouldnt be done. Can the cats help that their owners didnt want them??
No They Cant. They should Be trained or put into a quarentine >:l . None of them should be killed unless in pain. Anyone who thinks this is the way to go, Is completely insane, We might aswell just kill you to >:l
I know, the human society must have a fetish for killing animals that are perfectly healthy, but i "love" their double wording, "you cant kill them but we can since we are the humane society"
I mean I understand where you are coming from but like you said "They should Be trained or put into a quarentine." Do you think it's the best life for a cat to be put in quarantine...? You also have to look to the fact that feral cats cannot be trained or trained to be adoptable. It may sound harsh but the impacts for the cat are more beneficial in the long run.
@yasminbabyz00 We humans hunt and kill all sorts of animals to eat. We raise and kill animals, too. The glorious wolf and coyotes were hunted and killed, just because some thought they took out some sheep or cattle. They are a nuance and have an impact on the environment. They also have nice pelts. I say hunt them and utilize their pelts. They may also be eaten.
Help the feral cats? We need to treat them like the pythons in the everglades, and REMOVE them permanently. This bullshit only happens because of weak minded fools who like "cute" animals.
that's not nice.. they're mainly a problem because of assholes who only like to have kittens and don't feel like taking care of their responsibilities anymore.. or they don't spay/neuter their pets and let them roam.
??? Wait what? The "Weak minded fools" are the people that are trying to make life better for ALL living things? Really? I always thought weak minded fools were people that are selfish, Greedy, Blood-thirsty and Cold blooded kills, that think death is the answer to everything. Or at least to everyone not human. o_0...You know, I still think I am right. I vote for the people trying to fix this screwed up world...That people like YOU screwed up, Chiconspiricy...~_~
Wonderful video. Couldn't agree more. Moved onto a ranch with 60 + feral cats. TNR'd all of them. Adult Feral Cats can be tamed. Search: mocoi2bohapu3 Almost all the cats you see were adult ferals. Now they come when they are called and most are lap cats. I put them in a room and leave a little bit of food every time I walk through. At first they are terrified, but after 4-6 weeks they become completely tame.
Anyone who has something against an animal like a cat needs to have their head examined. An alligator or a shark or snake that is dangerous or deadly, I could understand the hostility and fear. But a cat? What the hell did they ever do to hurt you?
My uncle had some volunteers from the local shelter around his farm trying to do that. Thing was, they couldn't every capture any. They did catch two racoon and a dog though.
I guess if you can catch the cats, this will work.
I agree completely. I'm trying to help a feral cat colony currently. I'm just starting out learning about this but right now I'm having success feeding them and they trust me enough they will eat by my knees. I'm hoping to adopt one of them and take the others to a "no kill" animal shelter or have someone help me relocate them to a controlled TNR feral cat colony.
WinterHaven , never say never! TNR absolutely WORKS!
Here in the greater(?) Los Angeles area, there's a fantastic organization (FixNation) that not only spays/neuters, but also provides all the cats and kittens with their vaccinations, rabies shots, meds (including for fleas, worms, etc.), and so much more -- all for free.
There's also another fantastic organization (Stray Cat Alliance) that will help those who've never before TNR'd. SCA lends out traps, suggests S/N vets, and much more.
it's a shame they have to go find out all this proof to prove to other stubborn people that neutering would work. Yet still, good job HSUS on getting this news widespread.
I took in a potential ferral cat, she was 4 months old when I found her. She had been dumped in a NWR, it seems that people are always doing that, but that's really not good for NWRs and their mission to preserve wildlife. Anyway, my cat is now a wonderful pet. I wish all stories could end up this happy.
Wonderful! The nation really needs to hear and embrace this message, and this video is concise, informative, and proof-positive that TNR is the way to go.
I doubt you will approve this-but please hear me out: Homeless cats lose no matter what you do. Because they are HOMELESS. These cats get countless thousands of fleas and ticks, internal parasitic worms-and I've seen many of these cats dying slowly of disease. People poison them-even unintentionally-they lick leaking antifreeze from under cars. I seen this with my own eyes. 1/4th tsp is enough to kill their kidneys. Ever see cats fight? It's vicious. Retinal damage, blindness, deep lacerations
I found an escaped house cat today , she was amazing , "oriental" whatever that means but she was beautiful ...I love cat's but I'm alergic to them..... :(
We were able to do this with some feral barn cats that appeared at our home. Ask your local humane groups, who may be able to provide discount neutering with local vets. We did not clip the ears. It isn't difficult. We got the last litter young enough to adopt them out and kept one ourselves as our indoor pet. One of the prior now neutered females became nearly tame over time. -- Way to go on promoting neuter and release!
Very, very informative video. We've adopted a number of "street cats" over the last few years. I don't know to what degree these guys are feral, but some of them have become real sweethearts, others remain pretty wild. They all have stories to tell.
My neighbor does this, only problem is after they are fixed for some reason they hang around her house...and now we got almost 30 different cats in and around her/my backyard. Its kind of aggravating.
How does TNR stop cats from killing animals? There's only one way I know of to fix this problem and thats with a bullet. That's the method I use to control feral cats in Australia. That way I have fixed the problem of them breeding and killing of fauna - problem solved.

Help the feral cats? We need to treat them like the pythons in the everglades, and REMOVE them permanently. This bullshit only happens because of weak minded fools who like "cute" animals.
chiconspiricy 2 years ago
that's not nice.. they're mainly a problem because of assholes who only like to have kittens and don't feel like taking care of their responsibilities anymore.. or they don't spay/neuter their pets and let them roam.
ChlorophormPerfume 2 years ago 17
@ChlorophormPerfume YOUR SO DUMB you no how many cats have kittens like 736,363,763,848,4748 and the kittens cant find homes and being put to sleep
00YsoSerious00 1 year ago
maybe we could just do that to weak-minded people that think like you instead?
jehjahlu 2 years ago 3
@chiconspiricy perhaps you don't really understand that the humane society is trying to provide you with a solution that is humane and wise...

@chiconspiricy-Amazing how those "weak minded fools" are more capable of solving most problems as opposed to people like you who just create more.

Isn't it amazing how animals respond by how they are or aren't treated? Cats especially have a great capacity to love when they are shown love.

They should all be shot.

Anyone who has something against an animal like a cat needs to have their head examined. An alligator or a shark or snake that is dangerous or deadly, I could understand the hostility and fear. But a cat? What the hell did they ever do to hurt you?
jehjahlu 2 years ago 4
what did a cow, pig or chicken ever do to you? BUt we still eat them.

Hey Vegeta, what does the scouter say about his power level?

My uncle had some volunteers from the local shelter around his farm trying to do that. Thing was, they couldn't every capture any. They did catch two racoon and a dog though.
I guess if you can catch the cats, this will work.

the nation really needs to hear this message and also need to get together to take actions. It is a very informative video...
