Wouldn't a rigid wing have the tendancy to break if you botched a landing

Well, it depends on how "botched" the landing was. The internal construction is lightweight reinforced carbon-fiber, so yes it can break, although it is very strong. Carbon-fiber repairs are quite costly, and this is a great motivation to land it without incident every time. :-)
