  • A superb tribute RIP Bob

  • If you look closely you will see that when the conductor is on the platform and Alan Titchmarsh welcomes everybody to the last night of the proms, the rail behind the conductor is not decorated (same as when the music stops). but when the music is in full swing it is. The prommers are actually bobbing up and down to Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance March No1 (Land of Hope and Glory) which is a prom tradition. The video uses footage from both halves of the last night with the music synched over.

  • On close inspection, they are not really playing that, plus I don't remember it on the Last Night programme, but it's very cleverly edited nonetheless! They should play sometime during the Proms season this year as a tribute to Bob Holness - someone should suggest it to Roger Wright.

  • Gay audience lol!!!

  • Whats with the knee bending dance thing? Is this how "toffs" enjoy themselves?

  • Nice to see a young Dr. Evil at the helm...

  • Any chance I could have this as WAV please? As audacious and as ludicrous as fitting wheels to a thunderstorm but just as exciting and invigorating!

  • This is for bob blockbusters will never be the same but let's hope whoever takes over will do bob proud and challenge proud rip bob gbnf

  • The oroiginal Blockbusters Theme was one thing but this Classical Score Version is just MINDBLOWING!

  • This is Epic and Sesational and should do Bob Holness proud.

  • Ed Welch should be proud of this one!

  • TV themes that send a tingle down your spine - Grandstand, Treasure Hunt, Black Beauty, Juliet Bravo and BLOCKBUSTERS. RIP Bob.

  • That was great and stands as fitting tribute to Bob Holness.

  • I wish they wouldn't do that bop thing, it's so cringeworthy.

  • @beavorpigs It is. It's tradition I suppose. The aristocratic version moshing!

  • @Nogli what's 'aristocratic' about Prommers? The place is packed, please note, and there aren't enough 'aristos' to fill the House of Lords any more. They're dressed up in their best bib and tucker because it's a massively important occasion in the 'classical' music world, which is not the preserve of 'aristos' and hasn't been for at least 100 years.

    Inverted snobbery alert!

  • @LuciadiLamamoor Ha ha. Yeah, you're right I chose the wrong word, and it's a huge stereotype. It was just the first 'upper class' word to come to mind having watched The Aristocrats.

  • Classy as the man himself. He always struck me as a genuinely nice person. RIP Bob

  • RIP Bob

  • RIP Bob - the flying eye!

  • In the memory of this symphony blockbuster theme and a tribute for Bob Holness RIP mate

  • Brilliant :)

  • RIP Bob

  • Bob was a great man: my childhood in the 80s is now RIP too :-(

  • RIP Bob

  • RIP BOB

  • I think the prom bop is the only weird thing about the proms.

  • Love it :)

  • RIP Bob Holness :(

  • gay audience

  • @webboffin the whole audience is homosexual?

  • @AidanLunn I hope that isn't a homophobic remark !

  • Comment removed

  • So who did the original orchestrated version?

  • @MattTheSpratt I think this version was recorded by the LSO

  • well done for synching the blockbusters theme to what looks like the orchestra playing Pomp and Circumstance No1by Elgar. Thats usually what the promenaders bob up and down to.

  • Nice try... took my trained eye a few seconds to realise the ruse, but there's several scenes where the conducting doesn't match the music and the musician's movements don't match what I'm hearing, audio lag or not. Nice to see you caught a few bites though!

  • Dooby doo doo doo, dooby doo wah, dooby doo doo doo, ba dooby doo wah...

I couldn't stop smiling throughout this video.

  • i have no idea what is going on

  • Definitely reminded me of Glinka, Alan

  • absolutely fantastic video. actually brought a tear to my eyes.

  • Look at the chinese man thinking what the hell are all these people doing lol

  • Can I have a G minor, please Bob? Phnar phnar.

  • I've no idea what those weirdoes in the audience were doing, but it most certainly wasn't an officially sanctioned hand jive.

  • @MrBacktothenineties It was not played at the Last Night - Listen to Alan Tichmarsh's commentry at the end of it - No mention of Blockbusters.

  • Not bad, if only they did actually play this at the Last Night.

  • Very good. Well impressed with this

  • Why is nobody doing the hand jive? ??

  • @KarloTheMD It was not played at the Proms. I watch them every year and I have never heard a tv theme being played on the last night.

  • @KarloTheMD Because this isn't the Blockbusters Theme Tune, as it's never been played at the proms :-(

  • @wrexham1983 You are right, it has never been played at the proms

  • @KarloTheMD Because this was NEVER played @ THE PROMS !!!

    Sad I know

  • @wrexham1983 I agree with you, why is everyone believing that this was played at the Proms. I have a similar version of this, played by the LSO from around 20 years ago..

  • @KarloTheMD the tempo's a bit fast for the proper jive, sadly :(

  • Sir Mark Elder at the helm of this epic classic

    WELL DONE THE PROMS !!!!!!!!!!!

  • excellent! ;)

  • Which Album did this come off from? I know this piece has been around for 5 years now, still not found the single/album.

  • @623058 This version of Blockbusters sounds like a track I have from a ITV Themes collection played by the London Symphony Orchestra.

  • @jbeaver12 Id love to here it

  • @bradbeaver If you want a copy of the track, send me a wee e-mail, (jpbeaver2006@yahoo.co.uk) and I will email you the track. It is played alongside Highway.

  • Fab, love to been there.

  • So much farting in that auditorium, there must be a lot of old people in there....

  • Brilliant - love it.

  • A classic indeed - makes me want a P please Bob.
