U are wrong mister :) I am from Austria, so I know what I'm talking about:

Schmutz = obviously means Dirt BUT

Plätzchen = comes from the word "Platz" (place) and in the german language if u wanna make it sound cute/little/adorable you can add a -chen to the word (e.g. (child) Kind = Kindchen) and sometimes the word has to be adjusted to sound fluently (Platzchen sounds terrible in german, therefore it becomes Plätzchen). Plätzchen can mean cookie too, thats depends on the situation..
