There was and still is a Greek speaking community in Cyprus but there is a Turkish speaking community on the island too. As the Turkish speaking community we have major rights on the Cyprus island and Cyprus gvmnt wrt to the 1960 establishment law. To tell the story in short the island is neither Greek nor Turkish . It is independent and it belongs to Cypriots (Turkish, Greek, Armenian, Maronite, Linobambaki, Muslim Arabs). Even Baghdatis is a name from Irak don't forget! ;-)

the north region of cyprus is occupied lands... since 1974 There have been 100,000 turkish settlers moved in in violation of international law and the geneva convention. This occupied land is not recognized by any country other than turkey (the people who invaded the island). Everyone join the fight to remove 100,000 turkish settlers and 40000 turkish troops from cyprus.

It is nice to read the views of a Cypriot instead of the racist bullshit (from both side of the ethnic barrier). If more people recognized their CYPRIOT roots and reconciled the injustices of the past, all Cypriots would be living in peace and happiness! The crying of children sounds the same on either side of the green line, but so does their laughter!!

I agree! The only advantage to computers is that we can talk across all the gaps that divide peoples. I assume all the division is created by either Greeks or Turks, and NOT by CYPRIOTS!!! I am a little of one, lived among the other, educated by neither, was born in Cyprus and am PROUD to consider myself CYPRIOT!!

Is Cyprus gvmnt based on the 1960 Cyprus constitution? Where is the Turkish speaking participation to gvmnt? If you believe anybody other than Cypriots (incl. Turkish speaking and Greek speaking) would care about our well being you are completely mislead. No other country, Greece, Turkey, UK, France or US is interested in our freedom and wealth. These countries have their own interests here. I lost all my belief in Cypriotism because of Papadopoulos and all in Greek speaking part of Cyprus.

When Ottoman Turks occupied Cyprus in 1571, there were some indians in cyprus which today they call themselves hellen or greek cypriot or what the fuck ever it is. Cyprus island is discovered by the africans and syrians first time. When Ottomans came to island there were Venetian control in the island. There was and still is a Greek speaking community in Cyprus but there is a Turkish speaking community on the island too. As the Turkish speaking community we have major rights on the Cyprus island and Cyprus gvmnt wrt to the 1960 establishment law. To tell the story in short the island is neither Greek nor Turkish . It is independent and it belongs to Cypriots (Turkish, Greek, Armenian, Maronite, Linobambaki, Muslim Arabs). Even Baghdatis is a name from Irak don't forget! ;-)

Please before being so sure your own biased propaganda investigate a little about the organized killings by attacking Turkish villages before 1974. The history doesn't start from 1974.

Cyprus has Turks in it but that does not make it Turkish. England&Germany have Turks living there too does make them Turkish? Cyprus has been inhabited by Greeks since Bronze age,Turks only went there when the Ottomans invaded in the 16th Century. Despite the Empires which have invaded Cyprus the main language, population, religion, & history has always been Greek. The Turks try to claim it due to imperalistic racism which drove so many genocides (Pontian, Armenian, etc).

varosha, sorry to disappoint you, but the only real Cypriot is a Greek Cypriot. As everyone has been saying Cyprus has been inhabited by Greeks for 3000 years. Turks had never even set foot on the island 500 years ago. They are just immigrants and most came during the British occupation of the island. Since the moment Turks arrived on the island they have been a minority in every sense
