Röschmann rules . . . I am completely slain by her voice and her presence on stage. I wouldn't change a not (but I might alter that silly costume!) Brava Dorothea!
Does anybody knows where I can buy this video? My daughter (8 years)is very found of this cast. I have looked on the Internet but not found anything. /T
Does anyone know who's conducting? Seems totally inadequate to the great singers here. So talented and gorgeous and yet so poorly paced through this moving duet by the conductor.
hmmm, i usually prefer a lighter more lyric voice for papageno...but this works. though i do wonder (as a voice major, and one who's preparing the role right now for a production) how he gets by with all that tension in his jaw. that would just choke up all my upper notes above a "c".
It's always amusing to see a student - not even yet a mere upstart - with the gall to critique an internationally touring professional. Many thanks for the laugh!
i was just stating my opinion, not tearing him down. roth is a wonderful performer and greatly talented. i never said i was better or could compare. just stating my opinion.
Are you under the impression that opinions can't be wrong? If so, know that you're yet another obedient subject of today's dictatorship of relativism.
No. Opinions can certainly be wrong. But just because an opinion doesn't agree with your mindset doesn't automatically mean it is wrong. And I am not saying I'm right. I simply stated I noted some tension in his jaw through some of his vowels. That's it. I could be wrong, but it seemed to me like there was tension. That's all I was saying.
Well, the relaxing thing is for beginners really, you're taught to relax everything so that you at least also relax the important bits, when you finally understand what's happening (some never do), you can act, run around stage and enjoy your singing and still be relaxed where it counts. Some people are never able to relax, and some people are never able to get out of relaxing (are too wooden).
i know what you mean about the tension; his jaw is doing some weird things sometimes. but i don't think it's tension, i think it might just be the way he shapes his vowels.
She is now, yup. :o) Though she wasn't well known here in America until last year or so when she came over to sing Pamina at the Met. I wish we could get her down here in San Diego sometimes. She's fantastic!

They're both great, but I liked the baritone very, very much.

Bonjour Amis de la musique et de la spiritualité,
Est ce que quelqu'un pourrait me dire où trouver le DVD de la version 2007 ? Merci,

Maybe it's just the clarity of the sound recording -- rare on youtube -- but whatever the reason their voices sound great.

Does anyone know who's conducting? Not up to the great singers here; so talented and so beautiful in this marvelous duet.

I don't hear any tension in his wonderful, dense, consistent, homogeneous and beautiful voice. And that's all that matters.
What a great baritone!!

Dorothea Roeschmann really should be a lot more famous than she is! What a beautiful voice and what a singer!
Detlef Roth is a heck of a wonderful Papageno, too. Great clip!
