  • George Kennedy was brilliant in this flick too!!

  • oh man what a scene... his smile at the end and the glasses being smashed

  • What we have here is a failure to communicate

  • What a film! Never get tired of watching this one. What a cast! Fantastic. Paul Newman was so cool. He and Brando were in a class by themselves.

  • I don't think thats the complete ending. I vaguely remember watching this movie as a kid with my dad (His favorite movie) and that big guy was telling the other prisoners about that night.

  • your right. Its not the entire ending. I'm 32 and its my favorite movie. Take care...

  • God bless you - this movie is older than you, but you recognize it for what it is. I think the "big guy" is George Arthur -not sure, but he certainly deserved an award for this character.

  • the big guys name is george kennedy and he did win an academy award.

  • Love that scene in the abandoned church when Luke talks to God. "You made me like I am. Just where am I supposed to fit in?" Man, that speaks volumes, even now. And it's not forced in any way. It just comes natural.

Goodbye, Luke. You were all right.

  • He was smiling... That's right. You know, that, that Luke smile of his. He had it on his face right to the very end. Hell, if they didn't know it 'fore, they could tell right then that they weren't a-gonna beat him. That old Luke smile. Oh, Luke. He was some boy. Cool Hand Luke. Hell, he's a natural-born world-shaker. ~ Dragline

R.I.P. Paul Newman - the world will surely miss you!!

I have a paper to write discussing the christ figures in this movie and the book one flew over the coocoo's nest, and when I rented the movie I watched up until this very point where the dvd was completly scratched, at this EXACT part. So now I can finish the movie... like wow... thank ya ;)

  • hehe awesome

  • .. and how did your paper go? ... hope you mentioned the bottle-opener 'round his neck as one of many religious symbols in the film!

  • best part 4:54

  • He survived for sure. I saw him in another film after that one

  • A true classic

  • So much symbolism in this movie...works on so many levels!

  • gran pelicula!!!!!!
