  • this is a nice method!!! i notice that it gives a cooler smoke than the common three step method!! i think it's due to it being more lightly packed in the heel of the pipe!! either way i will be sticking with this method.... thanks for posting

  • Thank you.

I've had success using this method.

  • Wow what a bunch of nonsense. The quickest way that gets you to SMOKING it is the best way. I guess there's 2 kinds of people in life: Pipe SMOKERS and pipe PACKERS. This guy's a packer. And it wouldn't smoke any better than the way anyone else packs. He forgot the part about making sure you measure the width and depth of your fingers first, and find the size ratio according to the bowl of your pipe. All critical points for using his method!

  • @videosguy2011 I'm sorry, but anyone who's been smoking a pipe for more than a year knows the pack makes a huge difference. It actually does smoke a little better than other packs--objectively. The reason for the pressing and moving around lets gravity do the work and packs it much more evenly but still fully. I suppose you CAN smoke a corn cob and stick a plug of Captain Grey in with your fingers and light it up, but the fact is that this way smokes cooler, more evenly, and longer.

  • You vill exercise before you pack!

  • Yo no me entero de nada :(

  • Been smoking pipes about 2 years now and still can't understand the fuss about packing a pipe. I don't think I use any particular method, I just scoop my pipe into a tobacco tin a few times packing it down slightly each time, just sort of making it up as I go along. I never had any problems with having to relite or smoking to hot or wet or anything. I figure as long as your bowl is full and your pipe draws good then you're ok.

  • You know the Germans make good stuff.

  • @Lark919 hells yea we do ;)

  • Too much to remember. Just fill it, push it, light it, smoke it. Works for me.

  • Ze Germans!

  • German packing. That's automatically the best. ;-)

  • ah, i can't get the video to play past 2:05. total new way i have never seen before!

    Cheers~ Ruben~

  • I feel like he is giving sexual tips. Gross.

  • @xplaynerd

Turn the tobacco tin upside down!

Who else is enjoying opened legs?

Achim Frank himself told me to do so, few hours ago. ;-)

  • it's tough not having a hitch-hiker's thumb.

  • Great information about the foundation of

smoking a great bowl of tobacco...Technique is everything...I've used the Butera and Frank methods for many years...A back issue of P&T from a couple of years ago addressed this subject in a six page article...well worth a study!!!!!!!!

  • Frank! Thank you. I got a long burn and low heat smoke. Wonderful with minimal relight. Good stuff, sir.

    mbk

  • this method seems overly complicated. ive only been smoking a pipe for several months now, but i feel ive gotten the packing process down for the most part. I just do the 3 layer method takes a minute to load a good bowl.

  • what si the three layer method ?? buddy could you tell me i think i am worst pipe smoker in the world it's keeps going of ever 10 seconds

  • Three layer is when you fill to about 1/8" above the top of your pipe, tamp to halfway down, fill to 1/8"over, tamp to down again, fill to top, and tamp down to about 1/16" under the rim. And voila! You're ready to puff away!

  • A real simple way to look at the three layer method is using small pinches to fill up the bowl to the top and gently tamp that down. Repeat, and tamp that down a little harder. By the third fill, tamp the baccy firmly, but gently, and that should give you a nice air pocket at the bottom and a nicly packed bowl that is resistant to go out. But, don't be too hard on yourself, I had to use entire boxes of maches when I first started. I just takes practice.

  • greta vid!

  • Sounds like Schwarzenagger.

  • LOL.

  • Thanks for a great video. Used this technique and it works great.

  • Tried this method and,as mentioned by othersm it worked like a charm. Now... this means I have to get a lot more different brands of tobacco to try :)

  • This method is great, thanks for sharing !

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to make such a detailed video. I have never had packing pipe explained so well to me. I am excited to try it out. I go through phases of smoking for a few weeks and then quitting for several years due to frustration and also having a painful mouth. This may help that out. Thank you!

  • If you watch Mr. Frank's method, in which he goes into enormous detail, you might get the impression that this method is as elaborate as a moon landing. IT'S NOT! It is quite easy once you have the concept and it is likely a beginner will get an excellent pack on the first try. I can't thank Mr. Frank or recommend his technique enough. I never have a bad draw, and it smokes much cooler. Excellent for taming those blends with a reputation for being "dragon's-breath in a tin." Learn it. Love it.

  • Pipe smokers: This works! I just tried it, and it was much better than the fill/pack, fill/pack, fill/pack method we were all taught. Watch all 3 videos and give it a chance. You'll be happy you did.

Dunkashune Haire Frank. (Yeah I didn't take German)

  • The german version is SO much shorter...as if he doesn't consider his english-speaking viewers very smart ;)

I wouldn't use this technique for flakes, but it's just great if you fill in loose cut tobaccos.

  • he sounded a bit like arnie when he said new area about 50 secs in

  • @kevbro321 fuck yes

  • This is a great technique to use for loading a bowl. It does not matter if you are using Loose cut or Flake tobacco it works well. Although with flake you need to gently pour some into the pipe then have more broken up in lets say a small bowl to be able to get your "package" to pack. You only have to light and tamp a few times with this technique and it's smooth puffing from there.

  • its nice to see someone still smoking a pipe in the world of PC, all natural, no smoke whiners.

We few keep it alive. Cheers!

  • this technique works... thank you

  • My god this seems complicated just when I thought I knew pipesmoking I now realize I know nothing.

  • Thanks for the video. I just started smoking a pipe and I tried your method last night. It worked great! Thanks!

  • I want to sincerely thank you for creating this method of packing a pipe. I have owned a couple of pipes for over twenty years, but haven't smoked them that much due to frustration with getting it right. (I have smoked cigars since I was eight) But this method opened up a whole new world of pipe smoking to me. Thank you!

  • This is a good method. It works especially good with aromatics, though I myself prefer to use a somewhat simplified version of this.
