  • i'm italian, and this guy pronucies very good, and the body move is good to...waw

  • Wow! Very powerfull Voice!!! Bravo!

  • wow this is the most refreshing version of the song i have ever heard ...this guys brings out the comedy in the song which many artists fail to do ...many tend to make this aria so serious ,wow

  • bravo!

  • He is very fond of this music...

  • As much as I love this guy's singing, I put him a close second behind Thomas Hampson's "Largo" because Hampson has more emotion in his voice, and he has a lot more fun singing it it. This is still amazing, although it's just the slightest bit inferior to Hampson's version.

  • Wow. The voice is the closest I have ever heard to the original.

  • WHO IS THIS SINGER??? Fantastic!

Don't criticize him for some r and t...

  • @golaxo

He is Changyong LIAO, a very famous chinese barriton

  • His pronunciation is Amazing... i don't understand...but still.

  • Great pronuce! well done great voice! viva china!

  • Flaw-Freakin-Less

  • Good job, really, good italian here, and don't forget the interpretation, i like this a lot

  • Asian's rock!!!

  • @Unplacidista He is just performing the role of the Barber of Seville, he is not behaving as Liao Chang-rong, he is acting!

  • @Unplacidista

    Te equivocas...

  • bravo!!!

  • Bravo!

  • PLEASE, DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHICH IS THE TONE HE REACHES ON 2:44? THANKS!

  • @alvarogodino the highest note is a high A.

  • Great voice, bold yet subtle.

As for the Italian, whenever I ask "mi amore Italiano" what they are saying she replies angrily "I don't know, it's opera".

In fact in most opera houses in Italy they display subtitles above the stage.

    Says it all really.

  • Beauty!

  • One of the best baritones alive today.

  • wow.... is there anything the chinese can't do??

  • Bravissimo

  • damn it he skipped my favorite part of the song... other than that part being missing very well done

  • Bravo!!!

  • Incredible chinese..when says they are surprising it's really so!

  • @marintar it's Italian...

  • @300musicmaster Thanks you 300...it's very, very, very kind of you..Byeee.

  • For a minute, I thought I was listening to Ettore Bastiannini... HUGE amount of bronze in that voice and his high range is gorgeous. Hope he comes to the U.S. for some shows; there's a place for him here.

  • wow o_O

  • amazing... respect...

  • Bravissimo!!!!

  • Very well indeed!

    And nice italian.

    Fantastic!

  • His music teacher is Zhou Xiaoyan who is considered one of the best female sopranos in China. She studied music in France in 1930s and had excellent performance during her study in France.

  • I enjoyed how he threw himself into acting the role, in a lively and humourous way, right down to the undone collar hanging open.

  • Totally agree, not even counting his vocals, his performance of the role makes this one of my favorites.

  • wikct2 your right your know.

For chinese people they have a saying, it dosen't matter if the cat is black or white, if the cat can catch the mose it is the best cat.

Everyone work for there reputation or work hard to do anything, making the impossible possible

  • Mafantangdou, the guy is singing in italian and he does very well. Don't forget for chinese speaker western phonetic is not so easy. He is a very nice singer

  • This amazing guy sings equally well in French, as long as I can tell. Regards.

  • This guy ROCKS! Rich voice. Completely

in control of volume, sustaining, GREAT

Bel canto run. Good sense of humor needed for this part. WHAT A FIND!

    Bravissimo Signor Liao Chang-rong!!!!

  • XDXDXD

  • Um....yes. It was. This piece was written in Italian. Please do your research first before making statements like that again.

  • so what was it

  • hahaaha ottima pronuncia italiana e perfetto barbiere di Siviglia !! ;;))

  • How come you don't see a video like this from a Muslim country?

  • Unless it was intentional, the timing between the singer and the orchestra was fluctuating like crazy at times.

    Dude sung it good though.

  • This is wonderful! thanks for the upload!!

  • Ah bravo, bravísssssimo!!!... where the hell comos that powerful voice??--- I mean, honestly, I was forbiden myself to hear this master piece with anyone else but Pavarotti... then I saw this... for sure this Sir is one of the best. Bravo.

  • pavarotti is tenor (higher voice), this one is baritone exclusive song :)

  • @TARAMANUSIATAMPAN Pavarotti has a recording released of him singing this song. If the tenor has the right range, they could perform it. It's a high baritone song.

  • Wonderful, sparkling.

I have one question though, does baritone have to put the vibration near the throat? Because some vibration of his notes are quite close to his throat, making those notes quite heavy, wouldn't it be better to put the vibration higher?

  • Well, bel canto technique is based on the same principle for any voice type... opera singers don't sing with their throat... they sing from the diaphragm... so... every opera piece must sound natural... what you do is actually keep the the palatine veil up while you sing (the first phase of yawning) and tense the abdominal muscles while sucking their stomach. It does not have to do with changing vibration, but with sustaining... the higher you sing, the more effort to the abs

  • This is of course false. Sound comes from the vocal muscles, the diaphragm is just support, you can provide all the support in the world and it will not make a sound without proper vocal muscle development. The original post about vibration being higher or lower is very strange. Maybe he means that he could place his notes higher. Baritones tend to have more chest voice to head voice than tenors, so I guess the answer to Andrew's question is that yes to some extent it is necessary.

  • very impressive !

    great musician , singer !!!

just close your eye and you can't tell he is a Chinese !!!!!! WoW

  • Very, very good. Better than a lot of the others found on youtube. His voice is full and he sings the aria as it should be, without affectation and ostentation.

  • I don't know why everytime comments on something related to China always stir up arguments/accusations of racism. There are also video clips of singers from other Asian countries (Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore,... etc.) on Youtube, but there are rarely this kind of things happening other there. What's wrong?

This baritone is one of the best who still live, but I don't think we HAVE TO call him THE best. Everone has and can have one's favorite, right?

  • I'm italian...the pronunciation of this baritone is perfect...really...I don't know the quality of the exbition I'm not a musician but I think it's very good too..I really think that the asian people put high quality in all they do!!!!!!!

  • I couldn't agree with you more. I think many people are still cannot get over with the fast rising of China in every field including Western opera. China is changing at a pace no one in the history can match. What's important is not how others look at you but you have to feel confidence and going forward and earn respect from others.

  • @luigipava Sorry, Luigi, but I think you're just jealous. This is a VERY VERY good interpretation. It's sung with heart, and it's perfect mastery. From the point of view of technique, it's simply perfect. Why should "the Chinese" not "copy"? Music is universal. Human copy human, because they respect each other and are impressed by humanitys art. Have you ever sung Chinese? You should. You'd discover how rich and beautiful and gracious our planet is. Be love and peace with you. A., Zurich

  • @ONeirda

    I love your words :)

  • GOOD!!!

  • jeex this guy made it look effortless

  • The inscrutable West has no mysteries for Liao! He's got it all. Bravo!

  • Premise: I'm Italian, melomaniac, and have a passion for music and singing. I studied singing (especially opera singing).

I usually dislike very much either chinese or korean opera singers but this seems REALLY good to me.

  • 3:55 to 4:00 watch his adams apple has he says the OO vowel, there isnt only overdarkening in the voice, but also also tongue tension..not even close to a finished voice! However, since his career has already begun, we can only wait to see how long his youth will carry him through his singing.

    Excellent voice though! =X

  • davvero molto bravo...

  • He can't be chinese!!!!!! He just can't!

  • he was born in the same city as mine.

  • why cant people just accept the fact that chinese can be as good as anybody else, if not better?? Why can't people stop being racists??

  • I am actually quite impressed

  • good question. I'm into Chinese and Japanese culture and the amount of disrespect for it is ridiculous.

  • Some trash people always trash. It is waste time to pay attention to these trash. They degraded themselves.

  • ¡bravo!

  • Cacchio che pronuncia!!! Bravo bravissimo!!! :)

  • He has a great voice and a decent technique. A very enjoyable singer and performance. I hope to see him at the Met one day. Hes much better than any of the baritones singing at the Met this year save maybe Thomas Hampson

  • Couldn't agree more, I have never heard an Asian person interpret Figaro before, and he does it SO well! I, too, like this guy better than others I have heard, except for Thomas Hampson, whose diction and speed is (I feel) flawless, particularly so at the end of largo al f. and who is a fantastic performer, too!

  • i think you misunderstood what i said: i was commenting on the fact that i personally have never heard an asian person sing opera, not on the fact that i didn't think an asian person could sing it well: clearly they can do it beautifully, as this guy does. also, i feel that he gives one of the best performances i have ever heard of largo al factotum. i have respect for people of all cultures and languages singing opera. i wasn't trying to offend anyone, sorry if it came across that way.

  • check out Tae and Kim.

  • Sry but Hampson is terribad as a singer in opera. Though in most song he is great. He has a good0sized voice and is handsome of course.

    Probelm is that in opera:

When he tries to singer louder - he actually gets quieter because he puffs up the voice.

He also has a tenor's timbre. There is no excuse for him having the difficulties he does have in baritone pieces.

  • mi fa impressione vedere un cinese ke canta in italiano xD

    cmq molto bravo!!

  • who is this guy? he's fierce!

  • COMPLIMENTI!!!Interpretazione,orchestra e pronuncia,tutto perfetto!!!

    BRAVO!

  • If you listen to this baritone, without watching him, you would think an Italian is singing this song. Bravo!

  • E' vero!!!! He's really good!!!!

  • fucking brilliant , go on the wee man, that was class

  • The orchestra needs to tone down the winds (kinda overpowering)but his voice is magnificent.

  • What a wonderful baritone!! Great performance

  • Wow! his appearance is similar to me! ^^

  • WOW!

  • PERFECT!! BRAVO!! BRAVISSIMO!!

  • bravissimo!!!!!!!

  • Bravissimo, Liao! Hail to the Chinese!

  • I'm sorry that he is a Chinese. And million of people who watched Liao's live can prove that the singing voice is his own voice.

  • ok... i didn't ACTUALLY mean that it was playback. He is great.

  • Soory,He is a Chinese!

  • he's chinese... and all of us asians should sound like the flying kitchen utensils right? >:(

  • Sorry- but it only looks 'weird' if you are ignorant about music, and racist/limited in your thinking. Paul Robeson, Jessye Norman, Marian Anderson, Kiri Te Kanawa - all of them were/are opera singers, and none of them were European. I'm black, live in the States (where supposedly we're all morons when it comes to culture), and I think his enunciation and elocution are spot on. Opera is by and for everyone- not just Europeans.

  • i don't like this video very much.I think is better thomas hampson...but the best is TITO GOBBI...

  • I disagree...his elocution in Italian is precise.

  • I didn't know anyone could butcher the English language like you. 'Nice voice though.' A sentence cannot be a proper sentence without a verb.

  • 5 stars from me.

  • Very great, although not quite as good as the one to which this is a video response - I feel there are times where his voice is too covered, and a few points where his vibrato is huge. But really quite fantastic.

  • He's not bad at all, but I couldn't help noticing how he was singing faster than the music... It's really frustrating! But he's a very good singer nevertheless. =)

  • great singer! however, i didn't know that figaro was a pimp from 2008. The characterization might be a little to close to home. Leonard warren's Largo from the firestone series is till better singing, he didn't have to hold the G's for three days to make people realize they were good.

  • LMAO at the pimp part !!!!

Great performance and great voice though !!!!!

  • Wow...he's exellent!

  • nice resonant voice!

  • Excellent, Changyong!

  • Wow!!! Bravo!!

  • Sinois mett dan ZAR!

  • OH MY GOD!!!! Incredible voice, I'm baritone also, I hope to evolve my voice to be such a great singer!! BRAVISSIMO!!!

  • Bravo Mr. Liao!

  • He just like a young Thoma? How old is him? Where he is singing?

  • I think in this video he is about early 30's, and the place is some hall in Shanghai. And yes, he is one of the best Baritone Ive ever heard I think.

  • Is there any good music school in China? I like this guy so much, he is amazing.

  • his italian is not the best... but still he's pretty good

  • Bravissimo

  • Peccato, la voce sembra buona. Ma nessuna comunicativa e espressione. Orchestra in certi punti scordinata e non intanata.

  • Wow, What a talent and such a great BARITONE Voice!!!! Thanks.

  • WHat a tenor voice...!!!!!!!!

  • Tenor Eleven

    :)

(psst it's a baritone aria dude)

  • I know is a baritone aria ;) but he is still a tenor... as Mario del Monaco remained a tenor when sang this aria.

  • I've only seen him singing baritone...

  • Bravo, bravissimo!!!

  • Orchestra is heavy and ponderous. The soloist has got a decent voice on him but the tone is uneven and his performance is caricatured rather than characterful...

  • How come ppl can rate this performance less than 5 stars?? This is such a great performance, except the sound in this video has a bit problem tho.

  • Because Pavarotti would sing a Baritone Aria....why?
