wow this is the most refreshing version of the song i have ever heard ...this guys brings out the comedy in the song which many artists fail to do ...many tend to make this aria so serious ,wow
As much as I love this guy's singing, I put him a close second behind Thomas Hampson's "Largo" because Hampson has more emotion in his voice, and he has a lot more fun singing it it. This is still amazing, although it's just the slightest bit inferior to Hampson's version.
For a minute, I thought I was listening to Ettore Bastiannini... HUGE amount of bronze in that voice and his high range is gorgeous. Hope he comes to the U.S. for some shows; there's a place for him here.
His music teacher is Zhou Xiaoyan who is considered one of the best female sopranos in China. She studied music in France in 1930s and had excellent performance during her study in France.
Mafantangdou, the guy is singing in italian and he does very well. Don't forget for chinese speaker western phonetic is not so easy. He is a very nice singer
Ah bravo, bravísssssimo!!!... where the hell comos that powerful voice??--- I mean, honestly, I was forbiden myself to hear this master piece with anyone else but Pavarotti... then I saw this... for sure this Sir is one of the best. Bravo.
@TARAMANUSIATAMPAN Pavarotti has a recording released of him singing this song. If the tenor has the right range, they could perform it. It's a high baritone song.
I have one question though, does baritone have to put the vibration near the throat? Because some vibration of his notes are quite close to his throat, making those notes quite heavy, wouldn't it be better to put the vibration higher?
Well, bel canto technique is based on the same principle for any voice type... opera singers don't sing with their throat... they sing from the diaphragm... so... every opera piece must sound natural... what you do is actually keep the the palatine veil up while you sing (the first phase of yawning) and tense the abdominal muscles while sucking their stomach. It does not have to do with changing vibration, but with sustaining... the higher you sing, the more effort to the abs
This is of course false. Sound comes from the vocal muscles, the diaphragm is just support, you can provide all the support in the world and it will not make a sound without proper vocal muscle development. The original post about vibration being higher or lower is very strange. Maybe he means that he could place his notes higher. Baritones tend to have more chest voice to head voice than tenors, so I guess the answer to Andrew's question is that yes to some extent it is necessary.
Very, very good. Better than a lot of the others found on youtube. His voice is full and he sings the aria as it should be, without affectation and ostentation.
I don't know why everytime comments on something related to China always stir up arguments/accusations of racism. There are also video clips of singers from other Asian countries (Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore,... etc.) on Youtube, but there are rarely this kind of things happening other there. What's wrong?
This baritone is one of the best who still live, but I don't think we HAVE TO call him THE best. Everone has and can have one's favorite, right?
I'm italian...the pronunciation of this baritone is perfect...really...I don't know the quality of the exbition I'm not a musician but I think it's very good too..I really think that the asian people put high quality in all they do!!!!!!!
I couldn't agree with you more. I think many people are still cannot get over with the fast rising of China in every field including Western opera. China is changing at a pace no one in the history can match. What's important is not how others look at you but you have to feel confidence and going forward and earn respect from others.
@luigipava Sorry, Luigi, but I think you're just jealous. This is a VERY VERY good interpretation. It's sung with heart, and it's perfect mastery. From the point of view of technique, it's simply perfect. Why should "the Chinese" not "copy"? Music is universal. Human copy human, because they respect each other and are impressed by humanitys art. Have you ever sung Chinese? You should. You'd discover how rich and beautiful and gracious our planet is. Be love and peace with you. A., Zurich
3:55 to 4:00 watch his adams apple has he says the OO vowel, there isnt only overdarkening in the voice, but also also tongue tension..not even close to a finished voice! However, since his career has already begun, we can only wait to see how long his youth will carry him through his singing.

He has a great voice and a decent technique. A very enjoyable singer and performance. I hope to see him at the Met one day. Hes much better than any of the baritones singing at the Met this year save maybe Thomas Hampson
Couldn't agree more, I have never heard an Asian person interpret Figaro before, and he does it SO well! I, too, like this guy better than others I have heard, except for Thomas Hampson, whose diction and speed is (I feel) flawless, particularly so at the end of largo al f. and who is a fantastic performer, too!
i think you misunderstood what i said: i was commenting on the fact that i personally have never heard an asian person sing opera, not on the fact that i didn't think an asian person could sing it well: clearly they can do it beautifully, as this guy does. also, i feel that he gives one of the best performances i have ever heard of largo al factotum. i have respect for people of all cultures and languages singing opera. i wasn't trying to offend anyone, sorry if it came across that way.
Sorry- but it only looks 'weird' if you are ignorant about music, and racist/limited in your thinking. Sry but Hampson is terribad as a singer in opera. Though in most song he is great. He has a good0sized voice and is handsome of course.
Probelm is that in opera:
When he tries to singer louder - he actually gets quieter because he puffs up the voice.
He also has a tenor's timbre. There is no excuse for him having the difficulties he does have in baritone pieces.
