these people are trying to define to the Devil what idolatry is.This interview is complete futility. ABC is owned by Disney, the Disney family is part of the Illuminati, which was created by the Rothschilds family, this family is the richest in the world, their wealth is estimated in the Trillions of dollars. They are direct agents of Satan himself commanded to facilitate society for the coming of the Anti-Christ. Jesus Christ is our only hope of salvation from sin, death, Satan and this world.
Pop stars by itself are not idols, they are just trying to make a buck like everyone else. We create our gods & pour all of our will & self into it, this is an idol.
Idol: A material effigy that is worshipped, Someone who is adored blindly and excessively, An ideal instance; a perfect embodiment of a concept. So Mark, do you like the attention? do you consider yourself an "ideal" christian?
To Mark's comment about people "sacrificing their lives going to work".. HI Mark, some of us work every hard to just to get enough food to put on the table, not everyone is a celebrity preacher like you, driving awesome cars and wear nice shirts and "don't have to sacrifice their lives going to office to work hard."
@DarthLin he wasnt saying that going to work was wrong. in fact we are supposed to work. he was saying that when it gets to the point that you become a workaholic it has become your idol.
@DarthLin very well argument, in what i see in him a the people who follow this pastor is just pure fanatism, very hipocrat when i see the car he is driving and getting money by faith of the people who go to his church!
@luisbassooon Pastoral saleries are one of the lowest paying jobs you can get... Its normally the paster wife who has a professional job that takes in the most money for the family.
@gilbert4321 pure lie, huh, see that Benny Hinn, he and a lot of them become millioners with the money they get from people who think giving money to that kind of chutches they will go to heven, my brother become to that churches and then he left the church because he realized was only pure lie! look this pastor talking about the people and he driving a Jeep!, pure HIPOCRAZY
@luisbassooon If you follow Benny Hinn's teachings and compared it to the bible you would see that Benny Hinn isn't Christian but a false teacher and a con man.
@gilbert4321 why you did not anwear about his jeep, how much is the price of that car!, you don't say anything! why we didn't buy and old car and gice the money to others, i just see he is a blind traing to show the way to other blinds!
@luisbassooon What about his Jeep... do not covet your neighbour. Your a hypocrite why do you have a computer and live in a house? Your being illogical.
@gilbert4321 i have a computer and a place to leave because i have a real JOB, like the people who he sais give his live to their works!, not like him only saing about God and getting money for that! why he dosen't get a real job, because he knows he can get a lot of money from the faith of other people!
@luisbassooon And how is being a paster not a real job???... Id like to see you last one week. Endless hours of counselling, hosting study groups, reaching out to people. Pastors don't make much I'm a pastors son and I know for a fact that salary of being a pastor is terrible.
@luisbassooon The man has 5 kids what is supose to drive a Smart Car. And where is the hipocrazy here. Did he get out and praise the Jeep at some point.
What happens when you die?Have you told lies, stolen, used God's name in vain(10 Commandments)? If yes, then you're a liar, thief, and a blasphemer in the sight of God. When you die & be judged by God, you'll be guilty of sin, & go to Hell! But God sent His Son Jesus to shed His blood & die on a cross for your sins, He was buried & rose again from the dead on the third day. If you'll believe the Gospel(Jesus's death for your sins,His burial & resurrection)you'll not perish & have eternal life

@kidhadoken There's somehow a misconception that feeling the need for a savior is a substitute for working hard and aiming for some accomplishment, or that prayer is a copout from acting. Perhaps it is generally true for religions, but it is not broadly true for Christianity. Because I have hope for eternity, what I do with my life matters, forever. Certainly it's unhealthy to obsess over anything, including religion, but when you see the world around you as being corrupt for indulging in things that make them feel a range of emotions and encourage them to think and act freely, your just an antisocial douche.
@kidhadoken You missed the point. I'm a Christian and I'm a big movie and video game fan and I love to talk about those things. It becomes a problem when your whole life is dedicated to some false idol. I use to spend wasteless hours in front of my tv trying to earn trophies that aren't even real or spend hours on netflix watching movies. Satan will use ANYTHING to keep our eyes off of God. We're in a spiritual battle wether you believe it or not. It's important to know who the enemy is.
@MasterOranda I get where you're coming from, but as a person who doesn't believe in that kind of thing, it doesn't make any sense to me. It's as though all the things you previously obsessed over have been replaced with this new thing. I'm willing to bet that none of these kids saw themselves this way until they met this pastor. I think people will occupy themselves with whatever they can. All idols are false if looked at in the wrong context, even ones professed to be holy.
@kidhadoken Hey, there. I just want to throw this out there for your thought: like Mr. Driscoll stated, we're all worshippers of something, so it's not a matter of stopping "obsessing", but about obsessing over something wonderful - someone wonderful, who IS alway faithful, and always good, and won't disappoint you by failing to do what he said he was going to.
@lukemanius I get where you're coming from with this, I just take a different prespective. I'm not a religious person, I don't believe in an eternal afterlife. I'm certain that we have one, and only one life to live. I think it's better to find something in THIS life that gives you purpose, not anticipation for a "next" life. The person you describe could very easily be you, but only if you make the decision to be a goal oriented person, and not a person who needs to be saved.
@kidhadoken I think you miss the point. It's not looking for the next life. It's finding out that Heaven starts now. God is real and He actually will meet with you, reveal Himself to you and He's awesome, gives you peace, joy, life... not in the sweet by and by. It's now. You are free to believe or not. I'm not a salesman, but I don't just look forward to what happens after I die. I'm having the time of my life walking with God right now and experiencing all He has for me. I don't have to wait.
The good Pasture really is putting out there. He is 100% correct. People do not get that. It is okay to like someones talent. That is why GOD gave it to them. To entertain the world. DUDE, really. The bible just says 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." The word "predestination" is used a couple times, but Calvinism twists the meaning into something it never meant in the first place.
John Calvin attempted to re-write the Bible to suit his own tyrannical gov't and was a murderer.
You guys ought to watch "Decadence the Meaninglessness of Modern Life." It goes into this on a far deeper level and really shows not just the Spiritual side of things but also on how it and other things western culture does as a whole which in all creates the downfall of civilization. It has some other components but all of which fit together very well.
yeah Mark so when your done screwing your wife in the pooper, watching the STUPIDbowl & ULTIMATE FIGHTING then you can rightly criticize otherwise take the REDWOOD tree out of your own eye 1ST because the blind lead the blind and they both fall in your ditch
It funny how if you juxtapose Idle worship with God worship... its really still the same... "God" fails, just like these modern day "idols" Religion is about control of the freewill, control of the mind, body, and spirit.....
@leafs4ever676 Psalm 82 is a standard from YHWH, on how the other "gods" and perhaps rulers, should justly be. YHWH fails by his own standard in the OT.
YHWH is righteous, you say. But is he righteous because what he does is to be called righteous by him doing it? Or is he righteous because what he does is righteous? If the former, God's righteousness is arbitrary; might makes right. If the latter, God is righteous because an independent standard of righteousness exists that judges God.
God is Righteous. I once thought it was subjective at first but it's deeper than that. God IS righteous. He is the definition on which we base what righteoussness is. It is in his nature like fire being warmth, light, energy, and can also burn. Now apply that to all the definitions the Bible gives of God. Love, Truth, Just, Pure. Things start beginning to clear up :)
@1rubensito1 I wouldn't totally disagree that whatever God may be, if God exists, perhaps God is its attributes. But my point is that YHWH isn't such a being because YHWH fails by his own standards, and he admits this, even proclaiming to be the creator and doer of evil, and proud of it. It's not something one should embrace without extraordinary justification.
@1rubensito1 I could list the various atrocities where YHWH commands little children and infants to be slain mercilessly but I don't think that's enough for some Christians to seem "wrong" (I don't know how such an act could ever be justified. ever). But check out the bible itself. Read deuteronomy, or Isaiah 45:7 "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things." Or read the book of Jeremiah - it's a rich source for YHWH's addmission of evil.
@Oppositum And why were they slain? What was the relationship between God and Man at that time? CONTEXT! lol
I've read through most of the Bible (I'm finishing up some of the later prophets at the moment) If we take God's judgements toward people, who He had previously warned, out of context- of course He would look faulty. But you HAVE to use context. Always. I'd suggest you read the Bible from the very beginning and NOTE down what happens. It's a sequence of events
@1rubensito1 Psalm 137 sticks out: "O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is he who repays you, for what you have done to us, he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks" ... Now I won't deny the possibility of some abstract God existing, but if you actually maintain that YHWH is this literal being, you're just being silly; He's way too anthropomorphic
@Oppositum The Hebrew word for evil in Isaiah 45:7 is 'rah' and it doesn't just refer to moral evil. It also refers to trouble, calamity, disaster. The NIV translates the word as disaster, NKJV as calamity The context of the verse shows that it's refering to a natural phenomenon not to moral evil. Read Isaiah 45:5-7 and it about God and it is God who causes natural phenomenon like sun, light vs darkness, well-being(good) vs calamity(evil).
@leafs4ever676 : what do you mean who are we to question him? I'll tell you: We are rational human beings who DO have the ability to judge God's immoral atrocities; that's who WE are. And you mentioned salvation and you offer any evidence that this even happened (let alone that your God exists)? It's amazing how a simple fact like 2+2=4 can be proven and everyone knows it but you religious people say God is so "obvious" and "easy" to find/figure out yet you guys have a hard time proving him.
How ironic, this guy who's trying to be the Elvis of preachers, railing against the idea of idols.
And how condescending of him to make these sweeping accusations and assumptions that the rest of us are retarded donkeys who see our sports heroes or favorite singers as gods. You can relax, Sparky.... we're smart enough to figure out our own lives.
@AceSkepTik your judging him. he has never said that. your taking his method and combining it with your own motive. thats a fallicie. its an argument that has no basis. and just because you dont build a shrine with them. does not mean you dont consider them gods. and also he never said you were a retarted donkey.
@magician4God It seems to be a new trend with the YouTube dummies to talk about logical fallacies. Here's the problem with that in this case: First, I am not making an argument. I'm making a comment. I'm not engaged in a debate. I'm simply commenting on what a condescending goofball this Driscoll guy is.
Second, there are so many spelling and grammatical errors in what you posted, it's very nearly indecipherable. Try getting a grasp on the English language before you start spewing crap.
You big sillies! A man can drive a convertible and not have it as his idol. Listen again and this time, pay attention to what makes a person, place, thing, idea, or feeling an idol.
He's not exhorting anyone to take a vow of poverty; let's not be confused here, people.
@RatsRule thats no place to call someone a hypocrite. no where in the bible does it condemn the object (unless its utterly sinful) for example the bible does not say "money is the root of all evil" it says that "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil"
lol, these things are all products of capitalism which the christian faith in america seems to be so tied to with conservatism. if they really hate these products of industry in america then why do they support the system that produces it so much, why not go to socialism or something instead of complain about it.
BTW im a capitalist so dont attack me for that, im just questioning why some christians hate the product but not the machine
@Gnrebels290 I don't think the point was to say that all those things are bad, but what people do with those things in their heart is. EG, one person said getting good grades became their idol (not really what I would call a product of industry); but it wasn't saying being educated, having a cut of coffee, or watching a football game is evil, but when those things replace God in our lives, then there IS something wrong.
So capitalism is alright, just don't make it your god.
Want to see what your idol is? What is the most cherish thing you have, health, money, family, career, academics, musical talent, celebrity, sex pleasure.... whatever. Now imagine life without it! THERE'S your idol
U can Love somone or something.God wants us to enjoy things from each other, commun grace. As for when it takes Gods place is something else. I think I have no idols, but theres a lot I would be in pain to lose if I had to chose between it and God and decide to keep God in my life. I would do it, but it would hurt to lose the other things.I'm talking friends, familly, music, creativity, possible future wife. I wouldnt chose them over God but they teach me about God's goodness.
@clujborn Wow, can someone say "Paranoia"? lol He has a triangular necklace...so what? I think you need to lay off the D-Cafe for a while or something lol.
Good video,People should begin to stop making idols of whatever their needs and passions are, there is nothing wrong for someone to watch a particular movie but the momment that someone started to gets obsessive about an actor and spends hundreds of dollars buying memmorabilia about this actor, this type of worshpping is what makes it an idol.we need to discern between hearing a song and becoming an addict of that particular actor, pop start or celebrity.
No an idol is something you make a God. Just because he may have a elevated state does not make him an idol or that he is making himself an idol or god. If someone makes him their idol, god, messiah savior that is not Driscoll's fault because he is not promoting himself as God. If his church is a "church" by biblical definition then they are called out by God and worship God and not the leader, Driscoll.
What twisted thinking, he is elevated, he's in charge, it's HIS church. The church is ONLY those whom God has called out not a bunch of people who gather to sing songs and listen to a sermon.
TWISTED THINKING!? yes he is in an elevated person in his church but in a eternal view it is not his church, it is Gods church. I have never claimed that the Church was a bunch of people who gather and sing. I actually claimed that the church was a CALLED OUT GATHERING as the greek word for church claims Ekklesia- a called out assembly. He is NOT an idol, he does not place himself as a deity but proclaims the exact opposite and says that he is serving god.
How is he an idol to his church when he is constantly pointing to God? If people make him an idol in THEIR life, that is something they have to deal with. I have seen several of his sermons and he constantly pointing to God and giving Jesus all the glory.
Driscoll has another video on American idolatry where he shares the story of an Indian pastor and his wife who came to visit here. Keep in mind this couple came from a culture that bows down before statues and animal heads and will starve to death over eating the cow because the cow may be uncle Joe. The pastor's wife said that she hated her stay in America and will never go back because we are the most idolatrous people she's ever met.
That should make all of us stop and think and repent
I don't why you have a -2 rating. So I'm throwing some support where it is due. The Buddhist concept of attachments and delusions is very similar to this idolization concept. Just a different name for the same concept, but retains the same meaning.
I have a -2 rating because Christians hate to have other religions have similar or deeper meanings.Christians remain a xenophobic close minded group that preach fear and intolerance.Try talking to Christian aout Buddhism and you will see his eyes glaze over and then begin to wonder if you are the devil... just laughable.
This is a really great video. :) I think this pastor makes a good point about idols. Especially when it comes to Hollywood actors and musicians. I think it's wrong to worship actors and musicians. 'Cause it's like you're only paying attention to their appearance and not to the art that they do. And, not only that, but at the end of the day, actors and musicians are just people like everyone else.
these people are trying to define to the Devil what idolatry is.This interview is complete futility. ABC is owned by Disney, the Disney family is part of the Illuminati, which was created by the Rothschilds family, this family is the richest in the world, their wealth is estimated in the Trillions of dollars. @Oppositum "YHWH fails throughout the old testament by his own standard of what God should be" ????
Care to expain further on how that even makes any sense at all.
God doesn't fail to live up to any divine standard, He always entirely expresses himself as who he is; GOD, THE RIGHTEOUS ONE.
The reason he has to break out heavy artillery is because we perpetually fail to live up to what God has created us to be.
Who are we to question him, especially when he has provided salvation.
leafs4ever676 1 year ago 10
@leafs4ever676 Psalm 82 is a standard from YHWH, on how the other "gods" and perhaps rulers, should justly be. YHWH fails by his own standard in the OT.
YHWH is righteous, you say. But is he righteous because what he does is to be called righteous by him doing it? Or is he righteous because what he does is righteous? If the former, God's righteousness is arbitrary; might makes right. If the latter, God is righteous because an independent standard of righteousness exists that judges God.
Oppositum 1 year ago
God is Righteous. I once thought it was subjective at first but it's deeper than that. God IS righteous. He is the definition on which we base what righteoussness is. It is in his nature like fire being warmth, light, energy, and can also burn. Now apply that to all the definitions the Bible gives of God. Love, Truth, Just, Pure. Things start beginning to clear up :)
1rubensito1 1 year ago
@1rubensito1 I wouldn't totally disagree that whatever God may be, if God exists, perhaps God is its attributes. But my point is that YHWH isn't such a being because YHWH fails by his own standards, and he admits this, even proclaiming to be the creator and doer of evil, and proud of it. It's not something one should embrace without extraordinary justification.
Oppositum 1 year ago
@Oppositum "Doer of Evil"? Your going to have to explain that one
and where does he fail exactly? I have a feeling you have a list lol :)
1rubensito1 1 year ago
@1rubensito1 I could list the various atrocities where YHWH commands little children and infants to be slain mercilessly but I don't think that's enough for some Christians to seem "wrong" (I don't know how such an act could ever be justified. ever). But check out the bible itself. Read deuteronomy, or Isaiah 45:7 "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things." Or read the book of Jeremiah - it's a rich source for YHWH's addmission of evil.
Oppositum 1 year ago
@Oppositum And why were they slain? What was the relationship between God and Man at that time? CONTEXT! lol
I've read through most of the Bible (I'm finishing up some of the later prophets at the moment) If we take God's judgements toward people, who He had previously warned, out of context- of course He would look faulty. But you HAVE to use context. Always. I'd suggest you read the Bible from the very beginning and NOTE down what happens. It's a sequence of events
1rubensito1 1 year ago
@1rubensito1 In what context is it ever morally permissible to slay small children and infants?
Oppositum 1 year ago
@1rubensito1 Psalm 137 sticks out: "O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is he who repays you, for what you have done to us, he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks" ... Now I won't deny the possibility of some abstract God existing, but if you actually maintain that YHWH is this literal being, you're just being silly; He's way too anthropomorphic
Oppositum 1 year ago
@Oppositum The Hebrew word for evil in Isaiah 45:7 is 'rah' and it doesn't just refer to moral evil. It also refers to trouble, calamity, disaster. The NIV translates the word as disaster, NKJV as calamity The context of the verse shows that it's refering to a natural phenomenon not to moral evil. Read Isaiah 45:5-7 and it about God and it is God who causes natural phenomenon like sun, light vs darkness, well-being(good) vs calamity(evil).
TheGolbe 1 year ago

@AceSkepTik your judging him. he has never said that. your taking his method and combining it with your own motive. thats a fallicie. its an argument that has no basis. and just because you dont build a shrine with them. does not mean you dont consider them gods. and also he never said you were a retarted donkey.
magician4God 1 year ago

@RatsRule Hypocrite? No. He can have those things if they don't take away the place of God and I highly doubt they have.
theassassin43 1 year ago
@RatsRule thats no place to call someone a hypocrite. no where in the bible does it condemn the object (unless its utterly sinful) for example the bible does not say "money is the root of all evil" it says that "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil"

i dare god to kill me..damn i really hate people that believe in somthing other than common sense
tijssens 1 year ago
lol, these things are all products of capitalism which the christian faith in america seems to be so tied to with conservatism. if they really hate these products of industry in america then why do they support the system that produces it so much, why not go to socialism or something instead of complain about it.
BTW im a capitalist so dont attack me for that, im just questioning why some christians hate the product but not the machine
Gnrebels290 1 year ago
@Gnrebels290 I don't think the point was to say that all those things are bad, but what people do with those things in their heart is. EG, one person said getting good grades became their idol (not really what I would call a product of industry); but it wasn't saying being educated, having a cut of coffee, or watching a football game is evil, but when those things replace God in our lives, then there IS something wrong.
So capitalism is alright, just don't make it your god.
Peace

U can Love somone or something.God wants us to enjoy things from each other, commun grace. As for when it takes Gods place is something else. I think I have no idols, but theres a lot I would be in pain to lose if I had to chose between it and God and decide to keep God in my life. I would do it, but it would hurt to lose the other things.I'm talking friends, familly, music, creativity, possible future wife. I wouldnt chose them over God but they teach me about God's goodness.

Could Mark Driscoll be an idol to "his church"? Any elevated man is an idol to himself or to others who look up to!
Pfsif 2 years ago
No an idol is something you make a God. Just because he may have a elevated state does not make him an idol or that he is making himself an idol or god. If someone makes him their idol, god, messiah savior that is not Driscoll's fault because he is not promoting himself as God. If his church is a "church" by biblical definition then they are called out by God and worship God and not the leader, Driscoll.
XFinkEdgeX 2 years ago
What twisted thinking, he is elevated, he's in charge, it's HIS church. The church is ONLY those whom God has called out not a bunch of people who gather to sing songs and listen to a sermon.
Pfsif 2 years ago
TWISTED THINKING!? yes he is in an elevated person in his church but in a eternal view it is not his church, it is Gods church. I have never claimed that the Church was a bunch of people who gather and sing. I actually claimed that the church was a CALLED OUT GATHERING as the greek word for church claims Ekklesia- a called out assembly. He is NOT an idol, he does not place himself as a deity but proclaims the exact opposite and says that he is serving god.
XFinkEdgeX 2 years ago
Not in my mind. He talks openly about how unworthy he is and stuff. I think he's a good preacher but I see him like a christian friend.
wrestleswithgod85 2 years ago

In Buddhism we call it attachments and delusions.
humaner 2 years ago
I don't why you have a -2 rating. So I'm throwing some support where it is due. The Buddhist concept of attachments and delusions is very similar to this idolization concept. Just a different name for the same concept, but retains the same meaning.
camsaint16 1 year ago
