i have seen tool play live a few times and although i dont care for their version of no quarter , they are an amazing , powerful live band that can play like few other bands. Huge sound
Tool is the closest thing my generation has to Zeppelin. Huge rock band, huge sound. Album band all the way. Both bands are fantastic in their own way. To discount Tool for covering a Zeppelin song is to miss out on all they have to offer.
you gotta give tool some credit i mean look at who they were covering, and as far as covers go i think they did a very good job because they did it their way instead of trying to copy zeppelin. cut 'em some slack
@djerwulfe Ai na vedui Dunedan! Mae Govannen! Indeed well met!

Plant claims to forget. And it is No Capricorn or rubbish sign as that. Only clue is to a 16th century book .
tool have there own style nothing like zep to say there would be no tool with out zep couldn't be more far fetched. take the time to listen to tool. they are insane muscian's in my opinion better then zep. there style is of no other band. ive ever heard. and thats of modern day band. with little originality left in the world. tool is one of the few original bands left. long live the zep. but they've done there time.
Not the same creepy emptiness like the other version with no vocal reverb. Just not as haunting. Still beats the helllll out of justi........ no i won't go there...
@TheMoisesLinares Tool is fantastic live band . I have seen hundreds of bands , new and old , and Tool can play with anyone . I am as oldschool as it gets and I think they rock
cabala box set? this is new to me. Zepp's not known for Jewish messianic mystic symbols on their album covers........somebody explain & send me info. "GET THE LED OUT" :-D
@JimmyPagesSoloLover I used to have the Cabala box set- basically a hodgepodge of various live/studio outtakes all of which can be found elsewhere. It did come with a nice book of all the vinyl bootlegs out there but is basically obsolete now days. I sold mine on Ebay for quite a lot.
this song reminds me of a drug indused haze/coma/purgatory/hell. Like running from something thats merely a figment of ones imagination. Into circles we go.
Does this song not capture the '70s perfectly? I just imagine a bunch of people in the '70s running around, in slow motion, with this song as the background.
This isn't an alternate take, it's just master with a different mix - not the same thing. It's either a previous mix by the band or just some creative manipulation by a fan that's being sold off as authentic. No way to know ;-)
God! -This like having a bigger serving of greatness. If I had to critique it I would say "Lazer sound awesome--but take it down a notch---like to have seen more in Orig. but nonetheless decent display of sweet keyboards. Love how this sounds like a lost BBC classic. Bloody good mate--tokes on me! of back in the day.
Why are the outtakes and such always better than what they put on the albums? There were afew sketchy parts but overall i prefer this over the album version.
Yes. Page said in an interview that he slowed the tape down for a thicker sound after it was all recorded, so on the album version it is a lowered about a half step from standard tuning.
this is too cool, this was before jimmy added fuzz to his guitar riff and before he edited out the extra theremin parts, roberts vioce also has lots of reverb too.
Awesome. This is the final drum track, just not EQ'd, maybe the final keyboard and guitar. Obviously they were experiomenting with the theremin. Too cool.
This album and especially this song this are just in a place all on it's own , nothing b4 or since by anyone, anywhere even resembles this writing, chemistry & sound.. the test of time has just increased it's uniqueness
I think tool butchered this song in my opinion. It was interesting........... but in no way compares to the original. The only cover of this song I have heard that was pretty damn good was pulled off by Gov't Mule live.
Cool thing: this is before the vari-tune, meaning it's a whole half step higher than the original recorded version. Paigey used a technique called vari-tune on the whole song to give a lower deeper rich sound. It really makes it too
@jimmyp73 I doubt that, your statement is horribly biased. They did one cover of Zeppelin, I'm sure they were an influence, but I don't think any other song by Tool sounds at all like Zeppelin. You should seriously learn to listen to other music without comparing it to your favorite band, they will never sound as good.
@jimmyp73 tool doesnt suck in comparison to led zeppelin. because you culd say that about any band. haha. but tool is amazing. second favortite band besides sabbath.
@jimmyp73 I'll go as far as to say Tool sucks. I mean, they aren't bad really. But their last album sounds like their first album to me and every album of theirs in between. All their stuff sounds the same.
@jimmyp73 tool does not suck period. mighty zeppelin is far superior. but thats like saying LED ZEPPELIN SUCKS IN COMPARISON TO THE BEATLES because they wouldnt exist without them either
@jimmyp73 Be that as it may, you can't judge a great band of our time with a band of a different generation. these are different times and they are different bands. With Tool being progressive and Zeppelin being blues (as once mentioned). The are both bands beyond a plane of comprehension most fail to understand which is why they will both be timeless.
I'm not disagreeing with your comment though give Tool credit. There if not very close to the status that zeppelin had back then, now today.
@cherirambler fuck you, tool is the most talented band ever in terms of musicianship. so you can go fuck yourself just cuz your jealous that you cant sing like maynard or play drums like danny.
@hailsatan666edits maynard is an ass. Everyone thinks he's so "deep". He's just another "sell-out". Tool is so lame now. They aren't even close to Zeppelin as far as talent.
@27thepusher Tool doesn't have Pink Floyd, the Who, The Doors,Rush, Cream, ect behind them pushing them to get better. These kids that don't know any better will buy any piece of shit they put out.If dickface said the Foo fighters, he may have had a little bit of a valid arguement(not much, but a little)
@hailsatan666edits Tool are fags. You were saying their names, and I never heard of any of them,What you want is for us all to say they're as good as Zeppelin, but they're not. They ain't the beginning of a pimple on Zep's ass.30 years from now noone's gonna be talking about Tool.As a matter of fact, you're the only one in the world talking about them now
@hailsatan666edits And by the way Pink Floyd is the most talented band as far as musicianship, followed by a close second is Rush.Don't try to tell musicians about musicianship. You better stick to guitar hero. It's fitting Tool is your favorite band, you are one
@jimmyp73 and here I was under the assumption that tool named king crimson as their main band of inspiration..and you are a idiot to suggest there would be no tool today without Led Zeppelin.......two completely different styles of music just happening to be their own generations biggest bands.....both are awesome bands...
