@undds Its like the developers are literally trying too hard I think. The stories have become over the top as far as depth atleast to me. I mean look at the classic FFs simple rule, group of good guys vs bad guy. Insert a couple of modest plot twists involving said bad guy or good guy members. Have relatively tough boss fights concluding with a really tough final boss fight and end story. It isn't easy I know but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to write a decent story.

@undds I have to agree with you on mostly everything you said. Square soft was MUCH better at making games of substance then square enix. FFX was pretty good (although I wish they didn't turn final villain into a tick), cause even though the plot did slow at times, not nearly as much as 12 did thank god, I liked Lulu, Yuna and especially Auron.
Although I like Squall, I had to agree with Kefka (most because my favorite FF ever is the VI, and Kefka for me is the best villain EVAH, we really need a full hd remake of FF VI :P).
@jetfoxproductions I meant how he was created in the game, his character was designed to be a lot like Cloud's because of FF7 massive amount of fans. They were trying to make someone more familiar to Cloud when Squall's character was made in FF8, to clear it up I meant from the creators' sense.
@KetsuRosataMalnor oh i didn't know that either, well it makes sense because of their personalities and how they develop in both games. both are reclusive at first then slowly start being more social farther in to the game if i remember, i haven't played ff8 in years, i hate the leveling system.

@KetsuRosataMalnor that's why i don't like it, i hate leveling for 4 hours straight just to be killed by the enemy that killed me 20 levels ago, and being a love to just level my characters the game's leveling system screws me over big time. in ff7 there was a point to leveling, in ff8 it is pointless.
@jetfoxproduction FF7 and FF8 were both too easy to me respectfully. Truth be told hardest of the FF games is FF4. And harder than it is Persona 4 (depending on the difficulty you choose) Though Super Robot Taisen is about it's equal in difficulty, if not more so then Persona 4. In FF7 I trained using the battle arena and a few areas near it. And I had some pretty leet materia, which is why it was too easy. Fun though, but both don't provide that challenge aspect I like in RPGs.
@KetsuRosataMalnor ff7 is to easy i agree there it still has the type of leveling system i like, ff8 was grueling and frusterating. ff4 on the ds was hard but the remake on the psp was easy i was taking down bosses not even realizing they were even close to death. it was i would get in a boss fight and then i was thinking "what it's already dead" the xenosaga series though was a challenge and fav rpg series yet.
@jetfoxproductions Persona 4 provides an excellent challenge, though there are extensive dialogue scenes, and it does require the art of level grinding in it, otherwise you die. Even the mini-bosses can be hard. Super Robot Taisen, has some omg wtf difficulty to it's missions, and some the battle masteries are insane, but it is a really fun game, well if you like mecha games that is.
@KetsuRosataMalnor sounds like xenosaga, story heavy, futuristic with mechs, and most of the bosses can holy hell kill you if you don't strategize. sounds like a game i should consider getting. :)
@jetfoxproductions Oh Super Robot Taisen is a bit different in the sense that it's a Tactical RPG but good none the less. The PS2 games are only in kanji though. The only ones in english are the two GBA ones. Super Robot Taisen Original Generation and Super Robot Taisen Original Generation 2. I've also though about getting some of the "Tales of" games. Probably going to start with Tales of the Abyss, it was the first one to give free run, which in an RPG is amazing.
@Snipertoaster so did sephiroth(well, the god part anyway) im pretty sure its more evil to RULE OVER the planet as a god after blasting it open to absorb the planets pure life energy(A.K.A the lifestream) then to just make it go BOOM..

Kefka is actually pretty cool. He was not only the first villain to want to become a god, he is the only one who actually SUCCEEDED at becoming a god. Sephiroth was awesome too. Plus he's freaking sexy as hell. Sephiroth is cool because you actually get to SEE his descent into madness. Kefka was crazy during the whole game.

@STORMWHITEpro Kefka was the first Magiteck soildier and due to the process being unperfected he turned crazy during t, he then at the end of the game pretty much destroyed the world, became the GOD of magick itself but then got defeated by the heroes. Shanttoto can be eaten by Tidus' stupid laugh.

even though im a hard core FF7 fan, i have to agree that Kefka is a total badass bastard. @Widarr Kefka was by far the better villain. He was the only villain to pretty much attain his goal. Sephrioth has nothing on him. FF7 is just appeals to a wider range of fans rather then the die hard fans that would have different opinions because they've played more games.
the only reason Sephiroth didn't fully get what he wanted was because he needed to wait for things to happen, im sure that meteors don't travel faster than light of judgment and the warring triad would instantly give Kefka powers, whereas Sephiroth needs to gradually absorb the lifestream. if Aerith was a bit late for calling holy there wouldve been no way to stop sephiroth. where Kefka didn't need any special super-powered item/magic to be stopped. IMO Kefka and Sephiroth are both awesome.
too bad exdeath is the coolest ever. he has no ambitions or reasons for trying to destroy the world. He's just plain old evil for the sake of being evil. awesome.

@5secondguy Even then, really I consider Jenova to be the bigger evil, considering Sephiroth is influenced by her actions. I can't deny that Sephiroth looks cool, but I personally think that Kefka is better. Just my opinion though. Not to mention my comment was more or less just a wisecrack.

Kefka is actually pretty cool. He was not only the first villain to want to become a god, he is the only one who actually SUCCEEDED at becoming a god. Sephiroth was awesome too. Plus he's freaking sexy as hell. Sephiroth is cool because you actually get to SEE his descent into madness. Kefka was crazy during the whole game.

Guys get over the Kefka vsSephiroth thing. That's really starting to get old. Sure, it was fun to compare them in the 90's and the 2000's, but now it's just gotten out of hand. Kefka wanted to destroy the universe and failed. Seph wanted to become a god and failed. They both lose, no winner. THE END.

@Hinasil Ah but he is, he was the FIRST magically imbued soldier in the world of FF6. He was able to kill ESPERS, creatures that controlled magic, and absorb them to gain their magic. He even became a GOD OF MAGIC and could blow up the planet if he didn't have so much fun destroying things and torturing people.

oK heres how it works Sephiroth is a greater character the kefka while kefka is much more fun to be with spehiroth could kill him very easily on the other hand I absolutely hate cloud and think FF& is very over rated I think leon had a bad end of the ff deal from the mass success of ff7 they tried to recreate Cloud and the end version was Leon Despite this I like Leon a lot better then cloud Also as far as the best villain in the FF series goes hands down I think it is Jecht he is just awesome

Light Of Judgement is a one hit KO.
Kefka destroyed the world even though Sephiroth tried and failed.
Kefka was crazy to begin with but Sephiroth became crazy after learning about Janova.
Kefka does rely on Terra but Sephiroth relies on Janova or her cells in him.
But what I really want to say is, they are both awesome and Sephiroth could win.

@STORMWHITEpro Kefka was the first Magiteck soildier and due to the process being unperfected he turned crazy during t, he then at the end of the game pretty much destroyed the world, became the GOD of magick itself but then got defeated by the heroes. Shanttoto can be eaten by Tidus' stupid laugh.

@STORMWHITEpro kefka rules the world in the second part of the game is considered the "god of magic" and could destroy it if be wanted to as well. He dosnt rely on Terra for power he absorbed it but was already powerful before he did. It's all opinion really, unless they really fight

Lol Both of them got different Story's. for me Kefka is a real villain and he is charismatic and is funny too.Sephiroth is always cold hearted and depressed, he changed his character since he find out the truth, before that he was a hero and on the good side of things. i like both of them and this "Kefka vs Sephiroth" sucks really.

even though im a hard core FF7 fan, i have to agree that Kefka is a total badass bastard. He's like The Joker...only 9999 times better....lame jokes aside, Kefka is pretty charismatic. theres just somthing about him that makes you like him. Yea Sephy was suave and cool, and had a major Mama complex, but thats kinda it. And his looks only work on girls....well there is one guy i know, but thats another story. either way both get beat up end of story. ill shut up now =X

@Widarr Kefka was by far the better villain. He was the only villain to pretty much attain his goal. Sephrioth has nothing on him. FF7 is just appeals to a wider range of fans rather then the die hard fans that would have different opinions because they've played more games.

the only reason Sephiroth didn't fully get what he wanted was because he needed to wait for things to happen, im sure that meteors don't travel faster than light of judgment and the warring triad would instantly give Kefka powers, whereas Sephiroth needs to gradually absorb the lifestream. if Aerith was a bit late for calling holy there wouldve been no way to stop sephiroth. where Kefka didn't need any special super-powered item/magic to be stopped. IMO Kefka and Sephiroth are both awesome.
