  • I wish I had a little, dancing, metallic man...

  • i lol'd

  • lmao

  • second worst? wat the fuck? its like THEE best ive seen yet!

  • Me thinks someone is fishing for complements!

  • Hahaha, that's not bad! - Not bad at all!

  • It's actually pretty good. :)

  • why is the second worst?

  • very good. i like those soft and gentle reflections on table

  • This is actually good! Shoot its a heck of a lot better than other things thats for sure!!!

  • did uuse adobe after affects for this?

  • @Jesslayc 3ds max

  • @BenMcEwan u know how much it costs?!?!?!?!

  • @Jesslayc Yep, that's why I used a license from school, way back when.

  • @BenMcEwan aaah lol i assume thiss was hard?

  • LLLLLLLLOOOOOOOLLLLLLL

  • is that how you dance to Dubstep?

  • That's actually good, you are hard on yourself.

  • where can i find a free motion tracking software thats not illegal to download?

  • @CRAZYcodfan6 Try "Voodoo Camera Tracker"

  • thats not the second worst cgi at all, thats above the standard of many advertisements, i think you should keep this up you never know where it will lead you

  • @MonStructeur Cheers - It might interest you to know that this is what I do for a living.

  • thats pretty good but no shadow

  • @monkeyman27v actually if u look close there was a shadow

  • Lack of shadow is a problem though.

  • This made me wish I had a little metallic guy dancing on my desk right now....

  • what was the tracking software dude?

  • @piterXdT PFTrack

  • Hey! This isn't the 2nd worst CGI ever! You're a phony! A big fat phony!

  • your tracking is excellent !

  • Hey man, not sure if you'll respond to this soon or not, but I have 3DS Max and After effects, but do you know any good websites/tutorial links I can use to learn to composite things from 3DS Max into After effects?

  • @ThisPersonSaid Hey mate. Check out Video Copilot's "The Meteor" series of free tutorials. That'll give you the basics. After that, you should research multi-pass rendering and learn about what each pass does and how to combine them all back together again! Good luck!

  • @BenMcEwan Okay man, thanks for the tip!

  • Dude did u video tape me dancing? If not i would say say that robot and me have very similar rhythm :)

  • When you come here, I want you to dance like that for me.

  • Nice, doesn't look bad really

  • i didnt know they purposely made retarded robots

  • More like 2nd best.

  • this actually looks great

  • Play datt vuvuzela man.

  • nice !

  • this is ... AWESOME! :D

  • Good CGI really... besides the alarming seizure ...

  • that little dude's pretty cool.

  • haha nice match moving. was that a motion capture character? good work

  • @directorlog The animation was a .bip file in a little pack of freebie mocap files.

  • The very worst is Jar Jar Binks

  • wow! i'm your fan :D i'm on a self learning process too but i couln't have found good 3d max tutorials :( could you please show me where u found them?

  • Someone should flag this video for missleading title.

It clearly should say: "Fantastic CGI that will blow your mind"

  • That is one cool little dance the little guy's doin right there.

  • 'worst' my ass!

  • Dude..U shouldn't put your work down like that. It's pretty damn good compared to most of what Ive seen from youtube amatures. The movement is fluid and the motion traking is pretty much spot on (especially for a moving camera). Good job

  • It's better than what I can do with 3d compositing right now; It's actually pretty good. The matchmoving looks pretty accurate.

Maybe a little more specularity on the figure, or a soft shadow on thedesk.

Gotta remember too when doing this kinda stuff is what your final output media is going to be (30 second commercial, web ad, feature film etc).

  • @khentoumi I appreciate your insight, thanks for the comment.

3D and Compositing are 2 different things.

My final output was not even YouTube, this was just a quick test. Hence why I think it's bad =P

  • It's better than what I can do with 3d compositing right now; It's actually pretty good. The matchmoving looks pretty accurate.

Maybe a little more specularity on the figure, or a soft shadow on thedesk.

  • It actually looks a liiiiittle too light on its feet. In some bits it appears to be ever so slightly off the desk or just balancing too easily on the tip of a foot. :) Other than that it's amazing.

  • @Alan110013

    Thanks mate.

It's by no means perfect. I just rendered it straight out of 3ds Max and didn't bother with the compositing (fixing everything) because I was feeling lazy =P

And that's how the video got it's name!

  • better than what I can do

  • All that needs is a bit of motion blur and your in biz.

  • this should be called 1st worst!!!!!!!! jk i loved it!

  • why would you call that 2nd worst?? that's fucking awesome! what school did you go to learn this?

  • @jwhittle91 I'm self-taught.

  • FAKE AND GAY

  • The title really does no justice... FIX IT :D

  • i was expecting something bad - kind of like the youtube video "worst fight ever" and it is Kirk from Star Trek, in literally the worst fight ever...this is good work.

  • the cg is good, the dancing is.. well, you could improve on it.

  • dude wtf are you talking about? that cgi rocks! id love to have one of those little guys on my desk just kickin it..troll 2 could have used some it would have really sold it more than the stupid little kids dressed up for halloween...OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!

  • not bad bro. You could definitely use this in a more developed way. I think someone mentioned a short film?

  • It's like he was dancing with a small dog biting on each of his arms. But that was pretty good.

  • twilight has the 1st worst

  • That was awesome!

  • this is reli gr8 , i think it looks gr8 , reli good mapping

  • Woah you did good dude it's not bad at all. But around 0:06-0:08 Your little guy kind of shifted or lifted off the ground a tad bit. But man you did awesome!

  • 2nd worst? I love it! Your use of the subtle reflection on the surface of the desk is jaw-dropping ... well done! What application/s did you use for modeling and rendering?

  • @wired500 Thanks mate. Everything was done in 3ds Max, and rendered with Mental Ray.

  • Hi man,

This shot is AMAZING!!! Did you make the animation manually?

    Please Reply

    Thanks,

    keep it up

  • this is from DnB arab in cod 4

  • this is the most epic fail Ive seen on the net.

    I am not kidding !!

  • yeah its really not bad at all, you should keep practicing

  • WTF? This CGI is great, better than great.

  • Well it's still about ten billion times better than anything I could churn out.

  • this isn't bad it's great!!

  • its not that bad. ive seen way worse in a movie.

  • Ok the rendering did suck on the little guy, but the reflections on the desk are perfect. Also the movement of the guy and the movement of the camera were nice and coordinated

  • How can this be considered the worst? It's one of the best CGI I've seen...really.

  • This is far from "worst", especially if you did it yourself or was homemade.

Great job, you or whoever did this should consider doing short film.

  • @ptreno6 Haha thanks mate. I do something similar for a living, just doing this to expand my knowledge ;)

  • thats pretty cool

  • That's pretty darn good!

  • I couldn't do better. What'd you do with the armatures, it looks odd

  • damn! reverse psychology!

  • HOLY SHIT!!! THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!

  • this is nice, you could fake aliens in your desk and I'm sure some people will believe it

  • are you kidding me? thats awesome

  • thats not bad dude

  • that was awesome dude!

  • it acutally looks very good

  • nice:)

  • Dude, how did you animate the rigging? The body movements are pretty damn smooth.

  • Well I got a flux capacitor and a box of cornflakes, shook them together, and voila!

In all seriousness, it was just a pre-made animation I downloaded (for free) off the internet. I can't animate for crap myself ;)

  • Haha! I see. Although I would imagine the flux capacitor and box of corn flakes would give a similar result. :P

That's epic man. So you downloaded it as a max file and then just rendered it yourself and AE'd it into the video?

That's pretty awesome man. I've never done a heap of animating myself, but I'd very much liek to learn proper methods of doing it. You just finished school did you not? Your account says you're 18.

  • It's a .bip file that you can plug into the biped (that's what the little man is - they're used to rig characters, like a skeletal system). But yeah I did the camera track, applied the animation to the biped, and rendered it directly out of 3ds Max. DIdn't do any proper compositing in AE this time around.

  • Ah k I see. That's mad.

What are you doing/thinking of doing for tertiary education?

I'm an Architectural Computing student at UNSW> We use modelling programs mostly for architecture, but inbetween obviously there is a lot of messing around and myself and friends are keen to do some animation.

  • Well I've been anxious to get out of school ever since I started college. Even though uni would be way better since everything is relevant, I've had a head-up from someone who did the VFX course in Canberra and he said I'd be learning what I already know. To be honest, I really don't want to keep learning - especially since I've got a few pretty major things happening career-wise for me at the moment... No point in going to uni if it's only going to get me where I am now, right? :P

  • Ah yes of course I see. I see what you mean, however, tertiary education is not more learning what they can teach you. Everyone thinks going to uni is where you will learn more stuff and be more knowledgable. It's not. Uni is just a place for you to meet other people in your industry and be given the means and opportunities to further your education via exploration, self teaching and experimenting. You don't go to uni to be taught mroe, you go there to further yourself and to get a qualification

  • I disagree to an extent. Uni is great for meeting people, but it's a darn expensive way. It's better to just poke your head around in varies online communities, and even attend events (in my case, siggraph for an example).

As for the experimenting/self teaching, isn't that exactly what this video is?

In my opinion, the only benefits from university are the people you meet, guidance of the lecturer/lecturers, and the qualification at the end...

  • @BenMcEwan experimenting/self teaching, its always the best, Coool, !!!

  • The qualification is not entirely relevant as it's more to show that you've done some kidan of education course and you're capable of learning more. You could have a career in anything really, and if you show the employer that you know what you're doing then they'll feel confident in you. It's reassurance. Obviously a degree in something relevant helps. If you've got career stuff worked out then by all means hav a crack. Experience really is the key and kudos if you're getting some. Thats my 2c.

  • From my experience, and what I've seen happen almost everywhere in the film industry - people get employed from experience and how good they are at what they do. Whilst yes, a piece of paper might help, it means nothing compared to skill.

  • what is CGI?? doesnt look worst for me!!

  • CGI stands for Computer Generated Imagery

  • this is dope as hell! But I can't stop laughing at that little guy dancing his ass off! XD

  • awesomness!!

  • That is so damn cool!

  • I like the reflection but, the wood should reflect less or none

  • Check out the reflection of the deodorant can on the wood. I tried to mimic that, but I don't think I did a great job of it..

  • Actually it passed as real for me, by the way, I find sculpting and pairing far less difficult than animation, what do you think

  • what programs would i need to do this,

  • There are lots of programs that can do it. It's really personal preference. I used Boujou, 3ds Max and Adobe After Effects for this.

  • I don't get what you said. Do you mean the table and objects are 3D models and not CG? They look real to me.

Very cute, looks like the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz! :-P

  • CG and 3D are practically the same thing. The only thing that's fake here is the little man on the desk, everything else is real

  • "The only thing that's fake here is the little man on the desk, everything else is real"

Okay, that's what it looked like to me, just that I thought you said the whole scene was rendered, including the table.

  • WOW, that was really good.

  • got that deoderant!

  • The tracking is great!

  • Too sweet!!! Good job.

  • cool !

how can i do that ?

    what programs i need ?

  • Hey I want that little man on my desk too!

  • that's pretty damn sweet cgi IMHO

  • What program did you use for the camera tracking? Also did you animate and model it yourself?

  • Boujou for the tracking, and 3ds max for everything else. The little man is a skeletal system (called biped in 3ds Max) used for rigging humanoid characters.

The animation was a preset I downloaded too. It really was only meant for integrating realistic stuff into footage.

  • hello, where did you download the animation from? thanks

  • boujou...hehe...and for sure u bought it ;)

  • thats sweet

  • wow.. it is nice and smooth.. nice work dude :)

  • Haaa!!!, very smooth dude!!! keep up the good work!!!

  • KILL IT KILL IT!!! :D

  • what CAMERA

  • Canon HV20

  • what did you render this video with adobe premiere?? and what output settings if you dont mind

  • I answered your questions in the other video. This one is straight out of 3ds Max with the same settings

  • ^^ pretty cool

wich camcorder did you use to record the raw footage?

  • excellent job with the tracking motion! and I didn't even notice color errors until you mentioned it. Looks pretty good.

  • hahaha :D

    dobre xD

  • Is that you dancing...?? Certainly looks like you...!! lol

  • HAHA almost... Which reminds me, I need a mocap system.. those things are awesome!

  • Wow that looked ace dude. I mean ACE!!!! 45 stars

  • Excellent work, it's just a freaking great CGI. thats it. All I ask is a tutorial how to make it to look just like you :P

  • I think this little "man" just needs some music! I like it!

  • i dont understand. you say its the worst when i think you did a really well job

  • Very, very cool.

  • I don't think its that bad at all. It looks just a little bit too sharp and contrasty is all (to me)

  • The sharpness is mainly caused by the lack of motion blur (took way longer to render, and i couldn't be bothered compositing it properly so i didn't bother with vector motion passes and all that). Could use a little depth of field too.

  • I love the reflection on the desk, really makes it look real, although it is a bit laggy and doesnt really match the rest of the footage. :P

  • Huh? You mean the video is laggy or the reflection?

  • I don't really care if there were glitches or not, I want to know what in the world that little guy was doing. Was that, like, dancing or something?

  • I guess that's open to interpretation.. :)

  • I thought it looked good-you must really be a perfectionist, nothing wrong with that; especially if you're going pro. I never have more than an hour to film or edit my stuff, but I find your films inspirational!

  • Stop fishing for compliments. You know damn well that's good.

  • Actually, it really isn't that great.. There are so many errors (a few of them outlined in the video description)

  • I like it alot!!

  • i though it was pretty good!

  • how could you say this is the second worst cgi?

its one of the best i've seen!

  • Actually, it's great. Don't cut yourself short.

  • Looks to me there ain't anything bad about this video, that is great!

  • lol very nice^^

  • not that bad ben, actually this is superb

  • ....

    ......

....... d*mn, I wish I could do that.... hopefully this coming summer I will save up for after effects and do some motion tracking.... anyways... great stuff, i'm glad i subb'd :D

  • worst? man if I made that I'd be like AWESOME!

  • Very very good! I like it! Its better than I could probably do at my skill level LOL

  • nice, But some shadow could be added

  • There ARE shadows there believe it or not.. But the lighting washed a lot of it out. If you take a look at the other objects on the desk, you can see that they only really have shadows where the object touches the desk (so pretty much your ambient-occlusion pass).

If I composited this properly rather than rendering it straight out of 3ds max, i would definitely have added more shadow!

  • I LOVE IT!!!

  • I said 2nd worst, didn't I? :P
