Though from what I've read, it was considered more of a 'chamber' instrument; circus music would have had to be fairly loud to be heard in the arena, over the crowd, etc....
Funny that you say so, the Romans had their version of tuba which sounded similar to vuvuzela in the hands of a novice - and even the dreaded vuvuzela can be used to make music if you are very skilled with it. But what you hear in the beginning was probably cornu.
You welcome :D - hey, I checked you are in Belgium, right? If you follow the links in the video description, you can buy Musica Romana albums, which are sold online from Germany. They have a few older albums even I could not get a hold of. If you do not mind the 'spending money' part - which I usually do xP
yah im in belgium right now...but im leaving to berlin, in two weeks or so.... how much is it per CD?...where you from?and how did you discover these treasures?y true is im a bit broke at the mom...but i mean they wont run away wont they XD?
Well, you can follow the tinyurl link on the video description, but Musica Romana no longer sells their old discs through that site. A shame - few months ago one was still able to buy the Mesomedes album from them. BTW, if you can get that album somehow, and share it with me, I will send you all the Roman&Greek music I have on my computer :D
You can order the music to ship to Berlin or Belgium, or you may as well get it from me. I already uploaded it through Dropbox.
