These SAS soldiers are lucky to come out of a situation like that alive,those Libyans who captured would have fired first then ask questions later....I thought the SAS is defined as SPECIAL AIR SERVICES.Now its clear to everyone that SAS stands for SHIT AMATEURISH SOLDIERS.School boys would have excuted a better mission than that if they were trained and given instruction

It was probably a couple of much higher up officials who decided for them to proceed the way the did, and don't forget two MI6 officers were there too. At the end of the day no matter how skilled these guys are, they're at the mercy of the commands given to them, no matter how misguided they may be.
@vegamarco4 actually america has a history of fucking things up too..even recently a woman was shot that special forces were trying to save...six men keeping the locals at bay without anyone killed for 15 minutes is way more than most american special forces could manage...that said....this was a bad call....if they were attempting to enter by stealth a change of wind direction could have fucked it up..i live near the sas base and these guys are as good as they get..yanks come here to train

They also went to rescue a hostage in 2010,instead of clearing the room the hostage was in with a flash,smoke,stun grenade they thought a frag grenade would be best and blew the hostage to peices.
@vegamarco4 they killed a british hostage with a frag grenade and its just oh well we did our best. when the SAS supported a GSG9 raid on a plane that had been hijacked in the 1970's the gave the germans their new experimental stun grenades called G-60's to throw into the plane before they breached from multiple entrances. i don't think it would have occurred to either countries SF units to even take lethal grenades on a hostage extraction mission. surrendering was the professional thing to do
