To anyone reading this, one thing that pisses me off is when people think that Fontaine is dead, and Atlas killed him. DUDE ATLAS IS FONTAINE'S ALTERNATE PERSONA! He "turned" into Atlas to get Ryan off his ass. Then dragged lil' Jackie into the hell hole to get himself out, to con the outside world. one giant get the hell out project, and it wold have succeded too, if he wouldn't have tried to kill me. honestly couldnt care if he was fontaine, but when you try to kill meh XD shit goes down
I will admit it. I balled like baby when the sub expolded. (This was before I knew Atlas was Frank and the family thing was fake.) Just the sad music and the Andrew Ryan chirping in my ear made me think I was actually watching a moive. And Atlas just made me sob so loud. And when he was like "Would you kinldy kill the son of a bitch?" I was like, "HELL YEAH!"

@guitarfreak1363 Its to convince the player that Atlas is a "good guy" and that you have to help him. Kind of like in a movie, or a book, or show. Its so you can relate to him and not expect him to be a con-artist until the big reveal. Its kind of like misdirection or something like that.
His only excuse to kill Ryan is to become controller and king of Rapture.

Ok so here's what I don't get... Atlas is Fontaine, and in the end he admits that he never had a family or anything. But if Ryan was able to monitor the Bathysphere and talk to Jack and Atlas and send splicers, shouldn't he have also been able to see that there wasn't any family in there?
I also find it kinda hard to believe that Fontaine could have pulled off that kind of ruse in general, since Ryan seemed to be pretty on top of things.
@tpaladino Maybe he knew it all along, and just let it all happen, like a super-smart villian. I mean, why would he let you kill him in the first place? For all we know, he might have predicted that you'd kill him, find out that Atlas was really Fontaine, escape Fontaine's control, then go kill Fontaine himself and do Ryan a big favor.
Or he was too distracted from keeping up with Jack and Fontaine to notice the non-existent family.

Yeah I noticed the picture in his office as well. I doubt Fontaine actually had a wife and daughter though. More likely, Fontaine had the picture commissioned to make it appear as though he had a family in order to play on the minds of those he brought in to talk with for business or other matters.
Of course, Fontaine just might have had a family before coming to Rapture, though I don't see it as being a very happy one, rather a short-lived stint he might have fell into.

You are correct. Andrew Ryan isn't the true bad guy of Bioshock, Fontaine is, but Ryan could be considered a bad guy in his later years after he deviated from his original ideas and concept of morality in an attempt to stop Fontaine and save his paradise from itself. Both Fontaine and Ryan committed horrible crimes against the people of Rapture but with different goals.

this game has mysterious story about your character "jack" like to the last level fontaine says (cant remeber it word for word) says something like" i remeber when i put you in that sub, you were no more than two". then he talks after you beat him that he had your built he sent you topside and shit... its a story i need to discover(or someone else can do it for me =)
ok heres how the story goes start to finish....in civil war between Ryan and Fontaine, Fontaine obtains Ryan's bastard son as a fetus(Jack) and when he is born gets Tenenbaum and Suchong to make him grow up super fast and then add a mind control plasmid. Jack is then sent to the surface as a sleeper agent. As Fontaine, now hiding under his alias Atlas, activates Jack and sends him down to defeat Ryan and seize control. thats basically it.
Not sure what the level is called but you go to Ryans place and he just tells you that you were his son and that Fontaine put you under mind control and that by saying "Would you kindly" and he says "Would you kindly kill me" and you smash his brains in with a golf club
It's called "The Sea of Dreams". So, basically, you're going back to Rapture. Maybe Frank came back to life or something? I just hope the story gets better like other game sequels, and that they made a GOOD reason why you have a partner in the lost city of Atlantis with a creepy atmosphere. Note: 2 survivors in a plane/boat/submarine accident is not considered a good reason for a partner, unless it's a CPU partner.
When I said Atlantis, I meant Rapture. It's the same underwater paradise only with a creepy atmosphere and instead of mer-people, you get wackos tryin' to kill ye.

Can anyone explain how exactly Atlas managed to get from Neptune's Bay (sub area) to Prometheus Point? I thought that was the whole point of having Jack there since his DNA was the only one that would work in the bathospheres. wtf?

Can anyone explain to me this? Splicers are Rapture residents who gone psycho from splicing plasmids into their bodies too much, right? So, why can't they use their plasmids on Jack? They still have the intelligence to hack bots, but why can't they use plasmids?
Some of them do, actually. The ones I can think of off the top of my head that use them are the Houdini Splicers, but it is implied that the Leadheads and the Thuggish ones have the Physical and Combat plasmids.
because the dont have the DNA to use it, only jack has the DNA his blood to use EVE thats why atlas found you at the begining of the game to do his missions and control you

And so, he changes his name to Atlas, in order to escape from Andrew Ryan and go to another place at Rapture.

this game has mysterious story about your character "jack" like to the last level fontaine says (cant remeber it word for word) says something like" i remeber when i put you in that sub, you were no more than two". then he talks after you beat him that he had your built he sent you topside and shit... its a story i need to discover(or someone else can do it for me =)

ok heres how the story goes start to finish....in civil war between Ryan and Fontaine, Fontaine obtains Ryan's bastard son as a fetus(Jack) and when he is born gets Tenenbaum and Suchong to make him grow up super fast and then add a mind control plasmid. Jack is then sent to the surface as a sleeper agent. As Fontaine, now hiding under his alias Atlas, activates Jack and sends him down to defeat Ryan and seize control. thats basically it.

It's called "The Sea of Dreams". So, basically, you're going back to Rapture. Maybe Frank came back to life or something? I just hope the story gets better like other game sequels, and that they made a GOOD reason why you have a partner in the lost city of Atlantis with a creepy atmosphere. Note: 2 survivors in a plane/boat/submarine accident is not considered a good reason for a partner, unless it's a CPU partner.

Can anyone explain to me this? Splicers are Rapture residents who gone psycho from splicing plasmids into their bodies too much, right? So, why can't they use their plasmids on Jack? They still have the intelligence to hack bots, but why can't they use plasmids?

Some of them do, actually. The ones I can think of off the top of my head that use them are the Houdini Splicers, but it is implied that the Leadheads and the Thuggish ones have the Physical and Combat plasmids.
