I love Ypsilanti, ND. I want to go back, but I'm guessing things are lots busier now than they were a few years ago. I hope that the drilling hasn't messed it up. Everyone I met there was great. The Ypsilanti Cafe was great. We sat out front of that place and had a few cocktails. Great fun. Loved that little town.
Thanks for comfirming for me that the Ypsilantis are related. Interestingly, not only do both Michigan and North Dakota boast a Ypsilanti, but they also have a Grand Rapids, and an Adrian! The coincidence would've made me nuts if not for this video confirming the relatedness between at least the Ypsilantis. In other news, my small college competed with the small colleges in Adrian and Grand Rapids, MI.
Here are the facts boys.... Ypsilanti, North Dakota was named after Ypsilanti, Michigan which was named after Demetrios Ypsilantis, which is pronouced "Ipsilanti" (There is no "Yip" sound in the Greek Language. Now, it's all well and fine if the folks in Ypsilanti, ND want to get all Yippy with it, but it's just wrong. Cute, but wrong. There are about 6 million Greeks who would back me up, and another 7 million in Michigan. But if the 32 people in Ypsi ND want to call it YIPsilanti, do it.
