Patrich Troughton has always been my favorite as well. He originated the image of the eccentric, funny, genius that was used as a template for many of the others. Tennant and Matt Smith are presented as gods Patrick Troughton was charming vulnerable, mercurial and very fallible. Tennant is the best modern Doc (imo). Matt Smith is a rehash and adds nothing original. The old doctors had the nerve to dramatically recast their roles. New ones will feel they have to be at least as manic as Tennant
Interesting perspective. I only started watching with Matt Smith. Then came the Reruns. It took awhile to adjust to David Tennant and I never could accept Eggleston... Now it's been so long since I've seen the Matt Smith ones that it'll be culture shock all over again when the new ones start up.
I've read about the old ones, but I haven't seen any of them.
I caught onto the Rhyme too and felt pretty proud of myself! lol, So you're definetly entitled to a feeling of accomplishment! too. :) I think Matt Smith is a brilliant Doctor too, though i'm a bit bias since i just became a Who-vian recently.
@samprofit1 Well, I've been a fan since a child, around the Pertwee/Tom Baker era, and have never let go of it throughout all that time. I've liked all the Doctors, who I think have all had their good moments in their own ways. :-)
