thats what ive been looking for all night..5:25..ive been wondering why didnt he want to be apart of halloween 2,4,5..more 4 and 5 than 2 because he still wrote 2 even though he just said he was forced into it..i think he just wanted to be done with it after 2..4 and 5 are okay but john had nothing to do with it..and that blows
1:02 - :29 Valueable. 1:38 - :46 'Also' valueable. 1:47 - 2:59 'Very' clever. 3:43 - 4:34 Not bad. 4:33 - 5:11 I kinda like it, too. 5:21 - :25 Annoyed face. 5:38 - :46 Nice point. 6:26 - :48 Not bad. 7:07 - :16 'My' guess, too and it 'is' the correct way to play it. 7:14 - :42 Relates to 4:33 - 5:11.
every interview ive seen of john carpenter is by an english man. strange. but anyway john carpenter is the man. they live, halloween are 2 of my all time favs.
good interview, adds some valuable insight to the movie. regarding halloween 2, though, I was first hooked on it, and if you except the part where Jamie is the shape's sister, there was an atmosphairic feeling of her crawling around the morbid hospital naked but for a shirt and her underwear. of course halloween 1 was a classic, 3 was okay apart from there being no m mayers, 4 and 5 kinda sucked, the first remake by Rob Zombie was great, the second seemed to be lacking inspiration apart bla bla
Thats what i am talking about! There is no reason to explain the meaning of everything, that s what they are doing with all the classics! And that is what Rob Zombie has just done!
@gustavodfl I totally agree. Leaving parts to ones imagination (Carpenter talks about the blank mask as something people can project on) and also leaving a mystery. Not fully explaining Michael Myers makes it more uncomfortable and terrifying.
I think when they teach techniques in film school like Hitchcock, I think they should do him and John Carpenter. Reason: He knows how to keep stories and characters simple so the audience can follow. He is fantastic, I am just sad that his Partner Debra Hill passed away, she was great also. God Bless You, John!!!!!!
@skinwalkerxxx Maybe he can learn from these: 1:02 - :29 and 1:02 - :29 and this: "Don't remake masterpieces. If it 'works,' don't 'fix' it." - Roger Ebert
@skinwalkerxxx Yeah but they know that people will pay money for any movie that's attached to the franchise. I'm half ashamed to say it but I'm one of those people. it's all good in it's own way, but nothing they can do can ever be as good as the first one.
What a great documentary! Its terrific that John Carpenter has such loyal fans. Definetely one of the finest filmmakers. Honest, direct, professional, smart. And incredibly inventive.
Nick Castle doesn't play 'the shape' in Hallowe'en 2 and it shows painfully...that was a major error imo.
Castle's non-verbal display in the original....still doesn't get the credit it deserves...the way he walked/body language etc (& the way it was captured) in the first movie...was such an integral part of its success...at least imo.
Hallowe'en 2 is fair to good...but still pales next to the original.
if you didn,t want to be a part of part 2 then you should have not picked up the cheque mr.carpenter....part 2 was just as good as part 1...so shut up
true dude but like i said i hate people who bitch afterwards ....if you picked up the check , cash it, move on....and i,m right halloween 2 was just as good a halloween 1....what you say ???
part 4 was good but halloween 2 did so much stuff that makes you love the halloween franchise..think about it...sticking the knife in the back and lifting etc...part 4 was great but after that ...DOWNHILL
i think rob zombie is really bad at making films. He destroyed mm now mm is not only a phsycopath, but he is a phsycopath with a reason. MM NEVER HAD A REASON he just killed for the thrill
It's a shame that people apply the sibling storyline to Halloween. It's far scarier (and more importantly: creepier) if there isn't a motive. I was irked when Rob Zombie included that into the remake (which was a load of @$&!) The Laurie, Annie and Linda were great because they were likeable. I love how John Carpenter thought Laurie was the abnormal one and the other two were the 'normal' ones and that she was similar to Michael in that they were both repressed. Awesome.
@petie71 Rob Zombie's remake wasn't meant to mirror the original, it was meant to be different, which is what John told Rob to do; "Make it your own."
That's exactly what Rob did, and that's something you can't fault him for. If you're going to do a reimagining or whatever you want to call it and do the same movie frame for frame, there's no point.
If any of my movies were to be remade I wouldn't want them redone frame for frame, I'd want the people in charge to do something different.
cool interview. it's unfortunate how much he seems to loathe HALLOWEEN 2, as he rolls his eyes when it is mentioned. I like to think that both 2 and 3 were made with at least a little love from both Carpenter and Hill, as these films really capture that "feel" that the original had.
@narudduran actually, if you watch the first 2 parts of this, you will clearly hear Carpenter talk about many of the flaws. Still flawless? I think not.
I think the only good sequels were Halloween 2, and Halloween H20. Halloween 4 wasn't too bad, but 5 and 6 were too weird for me.. and Halloween Resurrection was just.. I dunno.
Halloween II is the best movie. Not Halloween. Although Halloween is my second favorite in the series. In my opinion, Halloween II has the best visual of suspense.
It's amazing how Carpenter purports to have been hated and given bad reviews. But now Halloween is so big and his movies and style are so influential.
"And then she ah- shows us her breasts. Which is always nice. I really did not expect that

The door opening to reveal 'the shape' dressed like a ghost.... is for me the most iconic and the scariest moment in the entire movie.
