  • thats what ive been looking for all night..5:25..ive been wondering why didnt he want to be apart of halloween 2,4,5..more 4 and 5 than 2 because he still wrote 2 even though he just said he was forced into it..i think he just wanted to be done with it after 2..4 and 5 are okay but john had nothing to do with it..and that blows

  • @k4t5 you got that right

  • @ZINCOVIX8754 finally, someone who knows that, Halloween is better than Friday the 13th

  • Genuis = John Carpenter

  • 1:02 - :29 Valueable. 1:38 - :46 'Also' valueable. 1:47 - 2:59 'Very' clever. 3:43 - 4:34 Not bad. 4:33 - 5:11 I kinda like it, too. 5:21 - :25 Annoyed face. 5:38 - :46 Nice point. 6:26 - :48 Not bad. 7:07 - :16 'My' guess, too and it 'is' the correct way to play it. 7:14 - :42 Relates to 4:33 - 5:11.

  • I agree, no sequels.

  • It's a shame Donald Pleasence wasn't nominated for his performance in this movie. Because he really nailed the part.

  • Love that comment "well it was 2am and I had a 6 pack of beer and it was the only thing I could think of !" I think that's how Stephen King writes...

  • every interview ive seen of john carpenter is by an english man. strange. but anyway john carpenter is the man. they live, halloween are 2 of my all time favs.

  • good interview, adds some valuable insight to the movie. regarding halloween 2, though, I was first hooked on it, and if you except the part where Jamie is the shape's sister, there was an atmosphairic feeling of her crawling around the morbid hospital naked but for a shirt and her underwear. of course halloween 1 was a classic, 3 was okay apart from there being no m mayers, 4 and 5 kinda sucked, the first remake by Rob Zombie was great, the second seemed to be lacking inspiration apart bla bla

  • the best horror movie ever made.john capenter is a legand.

  • great insight into the film. thanks for posting this, cheers !

  • Thanks for posting this. An amazing interview of the master of horror.

  • excellent interview and video

  • Ah, of course you can

  • hell at 2:44 you can see her whole boob

  • at 2:26 you can see some of her nipple

  • Great! Thanks for posting!

  • great post, much appreciated

  • Thats what i am talking about! There is no reason to explain the meaning of everything, that s what they are doing with all the classics! And that is what Rob Zombie has just done!

  • @gustavodfl wat dya mean

  • @gustavodfl I totally agree. Leaving parts to ones imagination (Carpenter talks about the blank mask as something people can project on) and also leaving a mystery. Not fully explaining Michael Myers makes it more uncomfortable and terrifying.

  • master of making horror movies.

  • I think when they teach techniques in film school like Hitchcock, I think they should do him and John Carpenter. Reason: He knows how to keep stories and characters simple so the audience can follow. He is fantastic, I am just sad that his Partner Debra Hill passed away, she was great also. God Bless You, John!!!!!!

  • what a great director.and i cant imagine any other actor but donald pleasance being in this.

  • What a director! He's so good the camera angles ect...

  • john carpenter is a genuis

  • scary shit

  • How did they make that sound effect @6:25?

  • I got a boner @2:25

  • Rob Zombie should listen to that vid

  • @skinwalkerxxx It doesn't hurt Rob's White Zombie work.

  • @027220 you should tell him to stop making movies. ;D

  • @skinwalkerxxx Let's not jump the gun here.

  • @skinwalkerxxx Maybe he can learn from these: 1:02 - :29 and 1:02 - :29 and this: "Don't remake masterpieces. If it 'works,' don't 'fix' it." - Roger Ebert

  • @skinwalkerxxx And 2:00 - :14 on SISKEL & EBERT: "PSYCHO", VIDEO PICK OF THE WEEK - 7/26/98

  • @027220 what about Siskel and Ebert?

  • @skinwalkerxxx Check the time on the video out and see what I mean.

  • @skinwalkerxxx You can't expect Rob Zombie to make an exact replica of JC's movie...would anyone really want that?

  • @boleplissken then don't do a remake to cash in on the name.

  • @skinwalkerxxx Yeah but they know that people will pay money for any movie that's attached to the franchise. I'm half ashamed to say it but I'm one of those people. it's all good in it's own way, but nothing they can do can ever be as good as the first one.

  • What a great documentary! Its terrific that John Carpenter has such loyal fans. Definetely one of the finest filmmakers. Honest, direct, professional, smart. And incredibly inventive.

  • The door opening to reveal 'the shape' dressed like a ghost.... is for me the most iconic and the scariest moment in the entire movie.

I thought that shot was truly genius.

  • Nick Castle doesn't play 'the shape' in Hallowe'en 2 and it shows painfully...that was a major error imo.

Castle's non-verbal display in the original....still doesn't get the credit it deserves...the way he walked/body language etc (& the way it was captured) in the first movie...was such an integral part of its success...at least imo.

Hallowe'en 2 is fair to good...but still pales next to the original.

  • the back and forth movement by the micheal myers charater is just creepy

  • John Carpenter rocks!!

  • you have a serious drug problem if you think #2(or any other movie for that matter) is even remotely as good as the original!!!???

  • John Carpenter is the best.

  • if you didn,t want to be a part of part 2 then you should have not picked up the cheque mr.carpenter....part 2 was just as good as part 1...so shut up

  • he was going to be sued by irwin yablans, and because he didnt get all his pay from the first movie, that's why he made part 2

  • true dude but like i said i hate people who bitch afterwards ....if you picked up the check , cash it, move on....and i,m right halloween 2 was just as good a halloween 1....what you say ???

  • not a chance. the original halloween is miles better than any that followed. personally ,i think the best sequel was number 4.

  • part 4 was good but halloween 2 did so much stuff that makes you love the halloween franchise..think about it...sticking the knife in the back and lifting etc...part 4 was great but after that ...DOWNHILL

  • i think rob zombie is really bad at making films. He destroyed mm now mm is not only a phsycopath, but he is a phsycopath with a reason. MM NEVER HAD A REASON he just killed for the thrill

  • It's a shame that people apply the sibling storyline to Halloween. It's far scarier (and more importantly: creepier) if there isn't a motive. I was irked when Rob Zombie included that into the remake (which was a load of @$&!) The Laurie, Annie and Linda were great because they were likeable. I love how John Carpenter thought Laurie was the abnormal one and the other two were the 'normal' ones and that she was similar to Michael in that they were both repressed. Awesome.

  • @petie71 Rob Zombie's remake wasn't meant to mirror the original, it was meant to be different, which is what John told Rob to do; "Make it your own."

That's exactly what Rob did, and that's something you can't fault him for. If you're going to do a reimagining or whatever you want to call it and do the same movie frame for frame, there's no point.

If any of my movies were to be remade I wouldn't want them redone frame for frame, I'd want the people in charge to do something different.

  • cool interview. it's unfortunate how much he seems to loathe HALLOWEEN 2, as he rolls his eyes when it is mentioned. I like to think that both 2 and 3 were made with at least a little love from both Carpenter and Hill, as these films really capture that "feel" that the original had.

  • his use of music in all his early films is superb, all the soundtracks are excellent and are as much a part of the movies as the actors

  • Halloween - a true master slasher never been equalled

  • i fuckin pay homage to carpenter!!!!

  • i like the second film apart from the fact its the bro sis relationship but i must stress THIS FILM IS A FUKIN MIRACLE

its beyon gr8ness, its beyond flawless, its so inspirational that its discouraging

    IT WILL NEVER BE MATCHED

    I FUCKIN LOVE IT

  • @narudduran actually, if you watch the first 2 parts of this, you will clearly hear Carpenter talk about many of the flaws. Still flawless? I think not.

  • @MSproductions23 but its perfect

    y r u tryin to kill me

  • @narudduran It's not perfect. You know what movie is perfect?.....

    None! Mwahhahahahahahahahahahha.

  • I think the only good sequels were Halloween 2, and Halloween H20. Halloween 4 wasn't too bad, but 5 and 6 were too weird for me.. and Halloween Resurrection was just.. I dunno.

  • I always thought H20 was the only good sequel. The second one wasn't too bad though - all the others were pretty crap.

  • @EndlessLaymon I like your username.. im a BIG richard laymon fan :D

  • @filmgeek22 Glad you like my username, and it's always nice to come across a Laymon fan.

    Take care.

  • i wonder what johns thoughts are on rob zombie

  • Carpenter is the man, a truly unique visionary in modern cinema that any aspiring director should take note and learn from!

  • i used to think that too

  • and you wonder why you are at -4 dont you?

  • Great stuff...listening to the master

  • That's just awesome.

John Carpenter, 2 in the A.M., a six-pack, with a pen and paper coming up with "Halloween II". Not bad; not bad at all.

  • Great Stuff. Thanks for posting.

  • Two very intelligent men, I love this interview.

John Carpenter is a legend and this film will forever be my all time favourite, its untouchable.

Hardly any gore or blood...just pure and simple suspense in all its glory. Love it.

  • The interviewer looks quite like Will Ferell ;)

  • excellant film from a master director.

  • John Carpenter,I am your #1 fan, your the best horrorfilm director in the world.

  • Halloween II was great, too.

  • unbeliavable video Carpenter is THE director

  • Good stuff.

  • thanks for this, people like you make youtube what it is

  • It's amazing how Carpenter purports to have been hated and given bad reviews. But now Halloween is so big and his movies and style are so influential.

  • thanks for puttin up the 3 parts man.

  • John Carpenter is THE MAN!!!!

  • old but good to see on here. I had this recorded back in 1998/99 but lost it, so thanks for putting this up.

  • yeah it was from 1999.

  • What a legend, love JC. Thank you for posting this, good stuff.
