Doc Reeder! If you will allow for it....I would really like to send you some Combat Medals I had specially made for FMF Corpsmen. They are (golden) and not Matte Black as was in issue for Combat Army Medics. These were somehow passed over for us in the Navy, and truly bewildered, I had 50 of them made up to distribute myself. I can send you seven if you wish for your Corpsman Combat friends. Just give me an address, and hey you are looking good Doc. Stay with the golf!
Doc Mike Reeder........SIR...!...This is Doc Mike Ambra also a combat VET..! I hail from Fox Co. 2/9 FMF We moved through Operation Hickory and The Prarie Incursions @ the Zee......67&68. I was so moved by your dedication to life and of course your heavy sacrifices with the Marines. I`m humbled by your dedication to others. Please see my writing also of "Torment Of A Distant War". Please forgive the "whiney" dis-focus of it and remember my respect for your example. SEMPER FI
Doc, your story brought a tear to my eye, a couple of times. Thank you sir for that wonderful story, for your courage, for your determination to see thru your best freinds dream, and for being the man you are.
Thank you for your service to this country, and please accept my "welcome home!"
You better believe i will never complain about anything again. When i graduated from Howe Military School, all my class mates got a draft card on graduation day, i even got one giving me a citizenship and a scholarship, I was a Master Sargent; and if i accepted it where to be promoted to a Lieutenant, just like you see it in the movies; a young (18) inexperience, clean cut rookie leading a bunch of Momas boys to the horror that was Vietnam. Thank You Doc. Visit Venezuela will play some 3rdWGolf
Wow Mike! From one golfing HM to another: BZ brother, you are a true inspiration. If you're ever in the Beaufort SC area look me up and we will play a round.
Thanks for your service and determination. I'm a songwriter, and like many others, many of my friends served in Viet Nam. A song I have written "Seemed Like War To Me" was written to honor those who served. Some came home in pieces both physically and mentally. It was years before I could sing it without breaking down. Your story is touching and inspiring. So glad you recovered and found happiness in your life. Bill
A remarkable story indeed, however you have now become a "True" golfer. Not because you are in a wheelchair, not because you broke 80 around the "old course", not because you overcame adversity. You are a True Golfer simply because you buried your dead buddy on the 14th, but carried on and finished the round.
Very inspirational video....Can someone please give me the music playing at the background starting from 0.15 to 1.35 ....will highly appreciate the same thanks....
What great adversity you have faced....I am so happy that you were not able to make it out the window......what a loss. As a veteran of our Country I am proud to have heard your story. As for those who oppose your story of your friend, we have a choice to standby our friends and made the correct one. After all, he stood by you and your wife sounds like a truly remarkable woman. Don't let the negatives outweigh the positive!
My grandpa smoked from age 13 to 83, total 70 years and died at age 89, not from cancer, and he smoked the cigarettes without filters many years too so don't judge.
And I complain about my game, I am embarrassed. The three dislikes are malcontents and jealous of Doc Mike. Thanks for your service Mike and glad you were able to keep your promise to your friend!
I complained I could not play because I was dizzy. I complained I could not play because it rained. I complained about everything but now I complain no more. Thank you Mike from a fellow VNV....
What a story! What courage! What a tribute to the human spirit!!! Truly an inspiration for anyone who has every questioned why things happen, what his/her purpose in life is, and may have ever considered giving up! NEVER give up ~~You ARE special & your life DOES HAVE meaning!!!
I saw this on ESPN a few days ago, but was fortunate to have this sent to me from a friend that I play golf with on sundays. I am glad to see the unedited version, as it is even more breathtaking and inspirational as the one that aired on ESPN. This is a wonderful example of strength and friendship. It is stories like this that will help out people who feel like there is no up in life. Thank you for sharing your story, Doc Mike, it is truly amazing!
That was a touching clip! A saga of boundless human determination triumphing against all odds!Friendship born on the golf course and man's grit and fortitude to fulfill the promise in style! Really inspiring!
Hey Doc Mike, Inspirational story of passion, courage, and friendship. That you've made such a success of your life after the blow you were dealt. That you made such an endearing and enduring connection with your buddy Mike. That you fulfilled your dream of playing, or should I say, slaying St Andrews. Amazing stuff!!! You give new meaning to purpose for living and living your purpose. Wishing you and your family health and happiness and keep putting that big ball in that little hole,)
Mike, I was paralyzed in 1972 as a young airman in the USAF. After a year in a VA Hospital, I was able to walk out of the place with the aid of 2 canes. I found golf in 1980 and became addicted. I still play a couple times a week, but it is becoming harder and more painful, but I won't give up. I know where you are coming from buddy. God bless you and keep on swinging !!!
You are a true inspiration and lived to inspire us, to not give up, to have determination and follow your dreams & passions. You so deserved "your little moment" in Scotland. God Bless you. PS I also agree with one of the comments; "Stop smoking now!"
A beautifully told story of one man's love of country, deep love and honor for a friend and passion for golf. Truly inspirational in showing Mike's courage, determination and commitment. What an example for the rest of us.
There was also Douglas Bader of the RAF who lost both legs in a plane crash in the 1930's. He got himself a tin pair, learned to walk on them, flew Spitfires in the Battle of Britain becoming an ace and played golf to scratch. These guys have determination.
Hi Mike Where were you Med-Evaced to? I was a Corspman at 1st Med when you were Hit. Who were you with? Is it possible I may have helped take care of you? Later Dave
I was also a Corpsmen with the 3rd marine division in Vietnam. Was there in 67 and 68 was shot up and medivac back home, Naval Hospital Millington, Tn. I was truly touched by your video. I live in Brentwood now and play music with some local guys and girls. I hope someday maybe we'll cross paths. Thank you for your service to our country. I love golf too.
Mike: so truly inspirational to this Viet. vet [I-Corp, Ben Hua '69, flying "Spooky" AC47 gunships]. Your challenges remind one of the great book of Douglas Bader [Reach for the Sky], who as a double amputee overcame golf, and even became a WW2 RAF Spitfire decorated fighter pilot. God bless you & family.
Mike; This video touched me. Your story is inspiring in more ways than one.
