I'm going to have to disagree with you Chris when you say it's not like Google Wave. Registration isn't a problem, a lot of people have a Google account and once Wave has been pushed through beta users wont need an invite. It's quite simple, plus its more customizable with gadgets (more to come than the current 2 I'm sure). With a customizable interface and the ability to add (and soon remove) participants, both these site offer similar very similar services.
