@ricerquerc I'll go out on a limb despite my complete lack of knowledge in ballet and assume that there's no particular association with homosexuality in having an all-male cast.

I guess if you look at the history of scenic arts, female roles were or are (Noh theater?) played by male performers (for religious/moral, cultural reasons or just tradition I guess).

So it's not *that* weird.

Seen this Matthew Bourne Production 3 times. Adam Cooper and the male swans were absolutely fabulous! I could also never see another version. This beats the lot. I've got it on DVD and watch it when I feel a bit down. Great stuff!

I have loved Swan Lake since early teenage, and when I saw this version in the Finnish television, I just had to buy the VHS (which now is worn to useless), and I went to see the live performance in Amsterdam where they were visiting (unfortunately without Adam Cooper), and recently I bought it as a DVD.

Nonostante non mi intenda ssolutamente di danza, sono rimasta affascinata da questo balletto, già dalla prima volta che lo vidi nel finale di Billy Elliot.

Adam Cooper riesce ad interpretare il suo ruolo in un modo meraviglioso...basti pensare alla delicatezza dei suoi movimenti quando è cigno e all'aggressività e alla sensualità quando invece interpreta il figlio del Segretario (mi sembra) della Regina! Superbo, non c'è che dire! +++++
