How many years did it take you to get that fast on the snare? Your playing is making my jaw drop onto the floor... and that's not good because there's cat litter on my floor! Seriously, though, your playing is un-freaking-believable.
@DrummerGrrrl Thank you for your kind words. I'd say it probably took me about 10 years to get to this level, with most of the advanced development happening in the 9th and 10th year. When this video was taken I'd been playing the drums for 25 years. My hands aren't what they used to be as I don't drum every day now but the base skills are like riding a bike.
Actually, I've yet to go through an Evans Hybrid batter head yet. The one on this drum was put on about 3 days before this competition and hasn't been played on since.
We've used the Grey Hybrids on the corps' drums the last two years and we've yet to have one pull or tear. The heads are still in great condition and we've only replaced them for cosmetic reasons so they match.
Wat kind of drumsticks are those?

@dunnellonful The sticks are Innovative Percussion FS-MM's (Mike McIntosh signature model).

How come your right hand is turned like that? It looks like a tenor grip. Also what sticks are you using?

I'm old and I have pad hands. ;-)
I use Innovative Percussion FS-MM snare sticks.
hulka9396 2 years ago
Oh ok, lol. I was just wondering cuz a lot of other snare player use that so I thought it was correct.
warrior995 2 years ago
There's no one "correct" technique but I do like to keep my right hand angle natural so tension is not created.
hulka9396 2 years ago
Is that what MCLs snare line uses or just what you personally like to use?
littlesnareboy 2 years ago
We've used the FS-PR2 sticks in the snare line the past two years. For solo playing I prefer the Macs.

Pad hands....psh... That was badass.
I'm diggin' the Bluecoats slice there, haha.
