i have a windows vista home edition on my hp pavilion dv2000 and i have a windows 7 ultimate disk and when i start setup i says it is like missing instalation files. so what do i do
ok i have windows 7 beta and i try to install it but it gets stuck on 75% when its expanding windows files then it gives me and error code what do i have to do i have vista and i dont have 1 gb of ram i have like 735 i think plz help me
If you have an upgrade copy of Win7 you should only have to put the CD in the computer again when the installer prompts you. If you purchased a full Win7 copy, then you would'nt.
Either one would do it. If you delete the partition, and no more exist on the drive windows will partition all the space and perform a quick format on it.
I like too delete the partition, and create a new one, then format it myself to make sure there are no issues before proceeding. I'm old school like that.
Yes, be sure to backup any files you want off the drive beforehand. Also if you have an upgrade copy of windows 7 you will need to have your XP cd around so it can see it and upgrade it.
I don't bother to backup the drivers for a system because 99.99% of the time you can always download the latest versions from the manufacturer's website. Besides the XP drivers would not work on Windows 7, so backing them up would only be useful if you wanted to go back to XP.
Thought I answered this already... You can run Win 7. Given you would barely meet the requirements for it. I would suggest that you upgrade the RAM to at least 2GB.
So i got a windows 7 premium edition today, and was wondering how to install it, i got Windows Vista 64bit now, so can i just insert the disc and choose install now, and upgrade? Or do i need to back up my files to a separate Drive, i got a 200g drive i can keep with me, and how should i start? Id love some fast replys cant wait, Thanks beforehand, i really need help in this : )
You should be able to perform an in place upgrade of a 64 bit Windows OS to a new 64 bit Windows OS.
HOWEVER my experience makes me say to do a full wipe a reload as some people have had issues with the 64 bit version upgrade vs the 32bit version. This is because of the stronger driver signing enforcement differences, etc, etc.
Just backup and do a wipe and reload to be 100% sure of a smooth experience.
hey i have the install disk and everything but i want to keep my programs.....else i need to buy them again. i am only able to get the programs if i install xp again...... could you send me a PM how to upgrade and keep everything?
It's a beta, it's supposed to be used by people who are going to test it. Not for full blown production use yet. If you have problems file a report to microsoft so it can be fixed in the retail version.

Windows 7 setup doesn't recognize my hard drive :( why is that?
my1run 2 years ago
Is this a new PC? My guess is that you will need the raid controller drivers for your system.

So if i clicked format on the xp drive c, will it delete it and install 7 on drive c then?

Upgrading from XP to 7 is just a matter of putting the disk in and running the upgrade program.
If your programs are old I recommend upgrading them to the latest versions to prevent issues.

If i was to install the new windows 7 OS on my vista computer when it comes out. will i have to install everything again or will it remove vista
williams8807 3 years ago
It would likely just do an upgrade on vista. Windows 7 in my opinon is just Vista upgraded.
