I've been waiting so long for this video - still not on youtube's Oscar site. And right: Never -- really never -- cut her performance! Nor tvdirector neighther Pres of AMPAS,Mr Wise. And she was obviously ill she never accepted such an unappropriate behaviour. Bette, love you forever: you were only one month Pres of AMPAS, only 81 years on this earth, but always in our hearts and on screen! "OhBette I love you so much" ( Glenn Ford to "Kate" at the end of "A Stolen Life" - 1946 )
This shows how much integrity the Academy has..to think their FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT was the one presenting..to think they have robbed her of SEVERAL wins..to think of her health condition..she STILL managed to appear..what a TRAVESTY!!!
No one should have EVER cut off the most brilliant actress Hollywood has ever known ! She OWNS the OSCARS.....she should have been allowed to say whatever she wanted and talk for as long as she wanted. That two bit tv director who shut off her microphone should have been kicked out on his ass!
I think the director &Bette are to blame for an embarrassing moment. They do have rehearsals for these things. They would have been aware of Bette's slow speech pattern so why cut the mic? As for Bette, yes, it's nice to introduce the proxy, but when Wise came to the stage & Bette did not have it together to move aside, cutting in after Wise started, with extensive notes about Wise' career, was bad form on her part. I love her but cannot believe she was in full form after her stroke.
She was fabulous until the end of her life: “we have to wait a second” ….”you must let me say something about you first”…”just a moment” …”now you get on, that’s right”..
Bette was being Polite in waiting for the individual applause to die down after she read the nominee's name. She was right to do so. However the TV DIRECTOR panicked with the timing and cut off her mike making her look off track. And she was further being polite in Introducing Robert Wise.
It doesn't even matter. Bette being the queen of Hollywood deserved better respect from a tv director.
@nickphilly I think they cut her microphone after she said "BOB HOSKINS IS THE NOMINEE..." over the clip of William Hurt. When you watch it big on TV and they show her you can see she's talking but you can't hear her.
Bette rocks. She was the best. And she's so funny in the last minute. The following day the press said she made a total fool of herself but she did it on purpose. We'll never see her like again.
Miss Bette Davis, the best actress ever.

This was after one of her strokes; it was an act of immense courage for her to appear on the show at all.

Frankly, Bette Davis had been much more splendid than all of those Academy Award nominees in acting. How come so many people keep getting her wrong
for years? Behind her scary appearance and harsh comments was her kindness
to others.

James Woods was robbed that year. He was the best actor and should have won instead of Newman.
ildico1 1 year ago
@ildico1 It was more of an honorary Oscar than anything else. Newman had never won. It happens all the times; look no further than last year.

@lakevubud Yes leave her alone. I think it is digusting the way she was treated, but she got her own back. GOOD!

The press made a huge thing about it saying she wasn't on top of her game
anymore because of her previous stroke years before. By the way, on a
totally diffrent subject: DEXTER GORDON RULES!

@nickphilly She was doing it correctly - it was the Director who panicked and fucked up how dare he - to a the greatest film actress of all time.
