totally charming...made me remember some ruff stuff I did to poor Barbie while listening to the Doors. *eg* (My Barbie waited for G.I. Joe to get back from the war, and she had tats before they were...art du jour?
anna is yet another cover of an early R&B classic. So is Twist and Shout. Cultural banditry when no one mentions the original artist or creators. The ironies continue. I like the Beatles and Ricki Lee Jones, but they need to acknowledge they both are copyong someone eles's work.
@efil4own1 I totally get this reference, and never knew what song Al Bundy was even talking about until I bought all the Beatles remasters. What a cool version this is.
i can't believe these tacky comments about this obvious impromptu rendition of anna ... and "post nasal drip"? i hope you were saying that with love and respect for ricki. have you ever written one song that would stand up to the least of hers? ricki is a gem and a genius. go away you people who speak out of ignorance and disrespect for ricki lee jones, one of the coolest persons on the planet. its about the heart in her voice, not the quality of the voice at any one given time.
i'm sick of people always critizicing everybody who has made a cover for one of the beatles songs, i don't say that the beatles are bad, cause i also like them, but come on they're not the best the band and they have done as much as other bands or singers.. so it's ok if a good singer like rickie lee wants to cover the beatles...
Terrible voice? Check Rickie Lee Jones singing "Makin' Whoopee" with Dr. John on this site, and then make a comment afterwards about RLJ's voice. Like most great singers, she can sing using several different "voices" for effect. Not only that, she's written most of anything she's ever recorded, plays guitar and piano, and does good covers: jazz, blues, r&b, rock & roll, country/western, gospel: she's done it all, kinda like that guy she used to hang around some 30 years ago, Tom Waits.
@ldnearthesea Without knowing her, the voice here IS pretty bad. Maybe not representative for the rest of her work. And how much she wrote is not related to her voice.
Rickie Lee is an American Treasure. She is my Elvis.

Singing with an imaginary Barbie . . . , that's Ricky. Always genuine, often hilarious. Gotta love her.

"this girl's?" do you have any conception of what "this girl" has accomplished as an artist? She was goofing around. Where is your sense of humor?

Excellent.
I wish Rickie Lee Jones could really perform with what's left of the Beatles. Maybe they could do this song. Bring the house down.
