you know what, this song still gives me goosebumps, the way it rises like a cobra about to strike, slowly luring you in to the first amazing slide solo from Mr Paul 'Slide' Turley then powering into the second section with amazing vocals from Paul Muir carried by the steady drum and bass line and all the time building and building to an amazing crescendo, and whats more they deliver the same power LIVE and thats real musicians !
So did that guy on the run kill the girl that betrayed him? If so that would explain the ax... Someone tell me the story! but this band is amazing though. Looks like i'm a fan now ;)
Albany Down first played South Of the City in LIVE Session on the BBC Radio 2 Rhythm and Blues Show 27 June 2011.
Paul Jones commented on their performance:
"WOW Very Very Good Indeed"
"Excellent guitar from Paul Turley there - Slide Stuff Terrific - and Paul Muir Superb on vocals, Sterling work from Billy Dedman on Bass and Jonny Bescoby on Drums. Thanks to Albany Down for an Excellent Session." "These Guys are going somewhere, make sure they take you with them"
In the heat of the Sun And the rising haze Been working so long now For three dam days When I come home Just to lay my head My woman, some other man, sleeping in my bed So when the sun goes down tonight And I still hear her cry Don't tell me that it's all right For I know my baby lies Somewhere south of the city Somewhere south of the city Feeling so confused Don't understand Next thing I remember
