I think it's obvious that statistic is very misleading and insinuates that the wealthy are paying a greater proportion of their income than the poor and middle class and that is misleading. Because the wealthy (under Bush's plan, those making over $311,000) make more they pay a larger percentage of the tax revenues.
Well, as a matter of simple fact, the wealthy -do- pay a greater proportion of their income than the poor and middle class. That's the law of the land and has been for decades, and those numbers I cited are legit. So I'm not sure how I'm being in any way misleading.
I am in no way opposed to a progressive tax code, but I do think that Sen. Obama takes it too far, and that the arguments presented against it in this thread so far are without merit and sometimes simply untrue.
The numbers you cited are true, but the meaning of the wealthy paying 68% of those taxes is simply that they make more money and the percentages of their income are obviously going to be larger than the percentages of the income of the poor.
Barack Obama's tax policy only means to undo the Bush tax cuts and invest those instead into the middle class who are creating new businesses that aren't shipping jobs overseas and are the backbone of our economy.
And that's a legitimate position. I disagree with it, because I do think the Bush economic policies were largely sound, but I respect it. I merely take issue with the idea that the wealthy have been having a free ride, or the factually untrue claims that they paid lower tax rates than anyone else, or that the middle class has paid more taxes under Bush than they did under Clinton. The Obama economic plan has some argument to support it, but those other things just aren't true.

Really what this ad is saying is when Barack uses an attack ad, its wrong, but when McCain actually makes an attack ad to point out that Barack is using them too, that is fine and dandy. I think it's obvious that statistic is very misleading and insinuates that the wealthy are paying a greater proportion of their income than the poor and middle class and that is misleading. Because the wealthy (under Bush's plan, those making over $311,000) make more they pay a larger percentage of the tax revenues.

Well, as a matter of simple fact, the wealthy -do- pay a greater proportion of their income than the poor and middle class. That's the law of the land and has been for decades, and those numbers I cited are legit. So I'm not sure how I'm being in any way misleading.
I am in no way opposed to a progressive tax code, but I do think that Sen. Obama takes it too far, and that the arguments presented against it in this thread so far are without merit and sometimes simply untrue.

The numbers you cited are true, but the meaning of the wealthy paying 68% of those taxes is simply that they make more money and the percentages of their income are obviously going to be larger than the percentages of the income of the poor.
Barack Obama's tax policy only means to undo the Bush tax cuts and invest those instead into the middle class who are creating new businesses that aren't shipping jobs overseas and are the backbone of our economy.

And that's a legitimate position. I disagree with it, because I do think the Bush economic policies were largely sound, but I respect it. I merely take issue with the idea that the wealthy have been having a free ride, or the factually untrue claims that they paid lower tax rates than anyone else, or that the middle class has paid more taxes under Bush than they did under Clinton. The Obama economic plan has some argument to support it, but those other things just aren't true.

What I do disagree with is the kind of tax breaks that necessitate borrowing from foreign country that fall short of benign (China) of which Bush I and II and Reagan are the biggest advocates of in history and which Clinton made serious dents in.

If your Social Security system isn't fixed it will be bankrupt in 20 years. In spite of the propaganda there is no savings, all of the money that went into this "Trust Fund" was spent. All of the contributions collected go into general revenue, it's been that way since the early '70s. All that the system does is keep a log of IOUs which are paid out of general revenue. If an employer or a union ran a pension fund that way they would be prosecuted for running a pyramid scam.

If the country elects McCain/Palin to lead us, then we will have tremendous problem in this country. Anyone can see by watching the debate, speeches and endorsement who is the better candidate. The wealthiest man in the world, Warren Buffett, supports Obama. The reason why there are supporters of McCain/Palin is because of race. If race is the motivating factor, then I feel sorry for the future of this country.

Umm... Most of your hardcore pro-lifers (myself and Gov. Palin included) would oppose abortion, even in cases of rape or incest. Stabbing a child in the head is never a solution. We are, however, quite willing to work in increments, and preventing the 98% of abortions that have nothing to do with rape and incest would stop well over a million murders per year. The rest will come as the American people gradually come to their senses.

Well, 80% of the American public disagrees with you, and that number only gets larger every year. The reason you pro-lifers have made zero progress despite 35 years of effort is because you refuse to treat the issue with the intellectual honesty it deserves. An embryo is not a "child" and you just make yourself foolish when you suggest that it is.

Eh? I wasn't proposing to make a full defense of the humanity of the fetus in 500 characters, Mr. Frell, nor do I see any appeals to emotion in my straightforward argument (from anti-abortion first principles) that our view is not hypocritical on rape and incest.
As for your polling data, I'm afraid you're simply wrong, mainly on the trendlines. Do some research before you come in here making wild irrational arguments and appeals to emotion. You'll feel better about yourself.
