This is why I didn't do races like this. Packing like that is dangerous!! In all My years of racing recumbents,I saw only one serious accident in which a racer was hurt from rolling his tadpole trike and getting cut up by the plastic windshield. There were no other riders near him when he went over. He ran off the course and rolled the vehicle . If there were any riders behind him, which there weren't, they would have been affected also. I have never seen any pack accidents in 15 years in IHPVA
@MrZlatilanac The guy in the car was adjusting the seat.
the bikers win by pushing their teammates, or opponents.
Because drag is so important in the race, the cyclist in the front disrupts the flow of air, while the one in the back pushes, resulting in energy saved and more speed
1:53 daaaamn. I was working support on a charity bike tour about 15 years ago and saw something similar happen. A guy went straight when the road didn't, hit a guardrail and did a header thirty feet down a very steep embankment. Gashed his abdomen when he went over the guardrail and cracked his pelvis when he hit a tree stump...but at least the stump stopped him from rolling 300 feet more down the mountain. And these weren't even pros, just weekend riders. Tough.
I was on a biking trip and I took a turn to fast and I didnt see the gravel that was on it and I lost control on the back wheel cause it started to swerve so it made me slam into the ground and I hit my head, hip, and elbow on the gound and my bike rolled around twice while I was still in the seat. It was a crappy day for biking...lol Thank god my bike was ok!!! Only thing was the handle bar got bent and the paint got a little scratched. Got it fixed by my bike shop though((:
Damn, makes me remember the stupid things I did while being a kid and driving my bike as fast as I could, but these are accidents, and mine were just idiocy...these guys have huge balls.
i know what it feels like i am a cyclist (not pro) i ride with my uncle we were riding and i turned to low fell and broke my jaw and displaced my elbo:(. respect to them
ricco makes me sick. he didn't even hav ethe good grace to be embarssed when he got caught. he was like "meh, i've done it for year, just got caught for the first time."
i think lifetime bans for doping would clean the sport up in a couple of years. fuck cheaters.
esp. vinokourov, i was a fan for YEARS and i almost gave up on the sport after him.

I dont agree... I believe ALL the riders dope, and doping should be 100% legalized for pros. Right now only maybe the top 50 can blood dope with their own blood (pure red cells deep frozen in Nitrogen at -80 C for up to 10 years.) It takes a well trained physician and big money. No EPO needed at all anymore though.
Poor Ricco's methods were behind. He could have used human identical epo (Dynepo.)
That's a really great video! I have to say I'm kinda mean... I actually like seeing them crash! (as long as they aren't seriously injured; John Lee Augustyn's crash was funny! Oscar Pereio's wasn't...)
And sometimes it's a pure miracle they doesn't get worse injured!
lol the first one is schumi and kohl the dope boys, menchov manages to fall when riding up a mountain and pereiro must be glad he's still alive what a fall!

lol that last shot CERTAINLY is a moment to remember, beautiful how his teammate is pushing him, and the other two riding in front of him.
Or all those caisse d'epargne riders, waiting to see how their teammate who fell was doing.
