The entire USA is made up of people who immigrated here or were descended from immigrants who immigrated here. That doesn't mean where they came from gets credit for USA technology. Besides which, Sikorsky is LONG DEAD and innovated in side rotor designs, not opposition rotor blade revolution.or pusher propellers.
Man o man do you americans really believe that everything is invented by you? "They stole this, they stole that!" You make me sick! Where would you be today without Nikola Tesla, or Wernher von Braun? I tell you where would you be -far from moon and in the dark! AS IF YOU NEVER STOLEN ANYTHING FROM ANYONE!!! SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!
Well Congratulations!! One more killer mashine made for destroying the world. I bet they dont even know where, and who is paying. Who the reall masters are!?
Saying that this Helicopter is based on the Kamov Ka-50 because it has coaxial rotors, is like saying a T-90 is based on a M1-Abrams because they both have a rotating turret....
@MorphballID Every nation has borrowed ideas from other places other than their own... For instance, every Russian Battle Tank has it's roots in the American M1931 of the 1930s designed by John Water Christie whose design n prototype were not given much scrutiny by the US and ended up being smuggled out of the States by Stalin's industrial spies resulting in the Soviets fielding it successfully as the BT-series of cavalry tanks that inspired the design of the T-34!
This is what we need to stay ahead the curve!!! Technology will always dominate the battlefield, any battlefield!!! Am I mistaken or do the Russians already have a combat heli with the X2 config? Minus the back rotor blade for speed, of course.
@weissman2000 You are talking about Kamov Ka-50 attack helicopter made in Russia. The Dual rotorblade setup is called Coaxial rotors. One of the advantages with Coaxial rotors is that you don't need a tail rotor (that keeps the helicopter from spinning into circles because of the torque from the main blade.) You can read more about coaxial on wiki!
It's cool no doubt but is it worth it now? Trillions of dollars technology development to fight a handful of goat herders in Afganistan who are our own creation. No wonder we go bankrupt.
@bittercottoncandy Well, so what? The father of Russian Battle Tanks is the American John Walter Christie whose design was STOLEN from the US Government by Stalin's industrial spies and resulted in the BT series of Soviet cavalry tanks that inspired the design of the T-34.
@flamezealous Kind of like the way they stole the Buran technology from the space shuttle. And the way the su27 and mig29 are based on the F-teen series innovations and the PAKFA is based on F22 ideas.
@3LTinman... He was not authorized. That's why Stalin's people had to lie about it saying they were tractors!! Stolen designs. They belonged to the US Government. PERIOD.
@bittercottoncandy Yes, but that doesn't mean that credit for the helicopter goes to Russia, or America. It goes to Sikorsky himself. To say that either country deserves credit for the work he did himself is disgraceful.
@bittercottoncandy I know. And yes, Sikorsky was a Russian immigrant. It's just that some people (I'm not saying you) think that the country he came from should get the credit, not himself. Sikorsky was a brilliant man, and it doesn't matter where he came from. Sorry if I seem to be going on about this...
@chiefbyfire yeah, imagine if in the last decade we'd spent a trillion dollars on the promotion of humanity instead of promotion of sufferation and indignity or already obselete hypersonic space drones we keep losing...
there is tech out there that goes far beyond, though... remember tesla's free electricity to the world? colo. springs? mf's 'll steal patents for machines to produce rubber dog shit, but they won't rework tesla's toys? blows me away...
Since the government is not going to buy this; Sikorsky would be better off coming up with a replacement for the Chinook. Something big that can carry many troops in high altitude and carry vehicles inside since the Osprey can't and have a weapons system so it can defend itself. The chinook is 50 years old!
@peternut1 A compound helicopter and a regular helicopter are different. By the way, a compound copter is useless in real-life military applications due to the utterly hideous fuel efficiency.
"Forget the V-22, this just makes sence. I always liked double rotors"
Are you serious? The V 22 can carry 20 troops and supplies and can carry heavy equipment to battle zones quickly. The Marines have made good use of the V 22 in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The X2 is being built to ESCORT the V 22 as an attack helicopter, since other helicopters cannot keep up with the fast V 22.
Wow! As a Sikorsky Alum, I am very proud and happy to see Sikorsky make this major breakthrough in helicopter technology. The commercial and military potential for this product is outstanding.
This program shows Sikorsky at its best, competent, honest, patient and dedicated to excellence. Bravo!
kamov is already working on ka-92, Mil has rolled out full scale mil-54 mock-up, americans keep on building tiny scale demonstrators to allure stock market, while where is the real functional chopper , where is the hardware of serious size? Mil-38 is already out, so was ka-62/60. Last chopper tfrom americans that could be called a helicopter was in 90ies, and it was heavily built by Mitsubishi heavy industries, ( Sikorsky S-92 helibus).
@unatics . The Russians have always built the biggest, but not the most reliable, efficient or practical helicopters. Sikorsky Technology will build the first practical high speed helicopter.
On another topic, the S-92 is Sikorsky Technology. Sure a lot of the sheet metal was banged out by Mitsubishi and very competently, but the overall design, the key technology, and the bulk of the aircraft value (rotors, transmissions, and flight controls) were designed and built by Sikorsky.
Perhaps you should check out my You Tube videos to learn about Sikorsky Aircraft/United Technologies Corporations heinous illegal activities. UTC is absolutely ruthless as they destroy many families here in CT
@unatics Your a real asshole. who cares if the Russians build a larger scale doesn't mean its as advanced in avonics or aerodynamics. See if your mother is sucking bigger nigger cocks.
The whole purpose of Co-Axial is to eliminate the Tail Rotor, Co-Axial configuration give better maneuverability. I can see possible problems with the X-2, the rear propellor pushes the Heli, so the issues are the rotational torque and the fact of the pushing forces from so far back have all the hallmarks of an unstable Heli, as well as complicated engineering and control systems, not good in a battlefield situation.
@brendonnz1964 There is nothing inherently wrong with rear propulsion. It exists on many fixed wing aircraft. The problem with the tail rotor was an an inefficient and complicated way of reacting the torque of a single main rotor that did nothing to solve the problem the loss of lift and blade stall on the retreating blade.
Counter rotating blades solve both of these problems (torque and blade stall). The push prop has nothing to do with a tail rotor. It lets the plane fly fast and level
Marvelous concept for U. S. Coast Guard. Excellent range, speed and if the tail rotor is high enough off the deck, actually usable aboard a ship. As is, the tail prop / rotor would get whacked 10-ways to Sunday aboard a ship (or in the rough).
Depends! If you are taking about speed then the X-2 has reached 460 km/h while the Kamov Ka-50 can only reach 315 km/h! The range is also better for the X2 prototype, 1300 km range! The thing is that the X2 is still just a prototype while the Kamov Ka-52 is an assault helicopter! Let's see what the future Sikorsky assault coaxial helicopter will be able to do first!
You see, good engineers can overcome the experience of the competitor!
@Rambo841 more like a combination of both the Ka-50 and the Lockheed Cheyenne. Look up the cheyenne as well and you'll see that this vehicle takes lessons from both helicopters and incorporates them with 21st century technology
