  • Seems like the beta version of the game. Completely different HUD than the finish version and I am curious of the HUD before they change, specially "deploy and command your troops" one that isn't in the final release except summoning them or placing them on an spot.

You can't command them at least not that I am aware. The large amount of troop you can place at that amount is shorter for the offical maps. The game has an"Wheel of Time Editor" though.

  • Additionally, why wouldnt descriptions be similar? They're NOT copy and pasted, I've read the series several times. I know. If RJ takes us back to Tar Valon for some reason then of course he'll describe it again. There's entire damn books with NO main characters in Tar Valon and other cities. After 1k pages of reading about other places etc, I'd like a 1 page refresher on what the damn place looks like and what the character sees or looks like. I love how RJ does this, the series feels more real

  • The posts regarding the repetition of descriptions when talking about towns, character habits etc are pretty ignorant. The fact that Nynaeve tugs on her braid SEMI-often, and Perrin scratches his beard, etc, these are small details that get us attached to characters. For example all RJ has to say is "Perrin scratched his beard as Faile stomped away" and we know immediately he was confused/perplexed etc.

  • Chain lightning? Pffft, so stereotypically fantasy, how bout balefire and deathgates and whatnot :P

  • @thuzan117 it should what? Lol, you lost me.

  • @GozerTheGozerian Actually, I think it's great that the WOT has spanned such a long time; it's certainly given me something to read, and I love it to pieces. My father has grown up with it, and there is a reason it is considered a definitive Fantasy Epic, up there with A Song of Ice and Fire and LOTR. Sanderson was asked because he was a critically acclaimed author and a fan, and the last book comes out this year, not next year. I personally liked the last 2, and although I agree that his...

  • I was just questioning one of the things that popped up...

  • Wheel of Time + wield weapons of immense power? You mean a dagger that hurts you and swords that don't need to be sharpened? otherwise its not a weapon its the one power

  • @DancingFreakChild yeah,i mean, what happened to Callandor, the magical sword of death and destruction

  • @DancingFreakChild terangreal, angreal and saangreal?

  • @DancingFreakChild

you saying rand, Egwene, Elayne, min, nythene i think i spelled it right ... etc can't use the one power as a weapon?

  • This was a really good game, just no one ever played it :(

  • Haha pimp my citadel!!:P

  • I saw an interview with brandon sanderson where he said that he had something like 12 times as many notes from robert jordan as jordan had written in the books. As in an absurd amount of writing. Apparantly it was just putting it all into story form that was taking the time.

  • looks sick, any good fellow book, readers?

  • that's nothing at all like the real game, it looks like the beta version. Bah too bad I can't find my wot disks ... movies are on disk 2 :(

  • I dont know what series you have been reading, but it obviously isnt the Wheel of Time. I have read all the books, 3 times, and i can assure that there isnt any sort of "writing just cut-and-pasted from earlier books". All the books play an important part in character development and the whole storyline

  • @yizun

I can assure you there are. Go back and read the books, and you will find things like city descriptions that go on for pages, and are copied nearly verbatim from the earlier books. Same thing with the exposition.

The complaint that the books have been stretched out isn't unique to me, some random dude on Youtube. Google it and you'll find people have been complaining about that for years.

  • Great stuff... too bad no one gives a shit since its such a great story

  • @yizun i think hes talking bout the passage in the beginning of each book "there are no beginnings or endings but it was a beginning" thing or that he uses the same words i unno but i love the books

  • @GozerTheGozerian / If you stopped reading the books then why are you posting in the first place? do you just like to shit in people's cool aid? your opinions are unfounded because you wont even read the story. anyone can find that authors use similar language from time to time, but copy and paste? please! its called english. The author emulates a familiar style to keep the reader connected to the events that are happening without the use of dialogue. you give ghostbusters a bad name

  • @skyblack937 Wrong. Go look at the literary reviews and the fan pages, and you'll see people have been complaining for years that the books have been stretched out and rehashed. RJ admitted as much in some of his interviews.

The first few books stretch over months of narrative time, while some of the later books only cover relative days or weeks of narrative time, with few plot developments. This is fact, not opinion. And it's proven by the length of the series, whether you admit it or not.

  • @GozerTheGozerian It's called character development. How about you make a world-class series with millions of readers, then maybe you have the right to bitch.

  • @ultimatesaged Actually, I blamed the book publishers, not Jordan. You can see that in my original comment.

I'm not talking about character development. I'm talking about entire descriptive scenes repeated – for instance, every time the narrative switches to Tar Valon, we get a description that's repeated almost verbatim from earlier books.

And again, Jordan himself admitted the series was stretched, and I'm sure he wasn't happy about it in retrospect.

  • @ultimatesaged Also, if you Google "Wheel of Time" + "too long" you'll find many, many forum and blog posts from readers, going back years.

One article points out that literally no narrative time elapses for the majority of the later books, and Jordan had described the same character actions – Nynaeve tugging her braid, Perrin scratching his beard – literally thousands of times.

If virtually no narrative time elapses, how can you claim the later books are not stretched?

  • @GozerTheGozerian

That is only slightly true. In a way, he needs to outline briefly the city so you can refresh your memory on the geography- there are a LOT of cities in WOT- and to be honest, there are only a few ways you can describe something without getting a thesaurus out. And I don't think it's too long. My problem with LOTR is that, for the epic scope of it, it was too short. And there's meant to be more happening later on as it approaches Tarmon Gaidan....

  • @GozerTheGozerian and besides, about your "described the same character actions," everyone has their own nervous habits and such. N.N tugs her braid when she's nervous or thinking, and actually I think it's commendable that RJ kept that up as a constant in her character. It really adds no length to the book and doesn't break up the flow, and if she didn't do it, wouldn't it seem weird that she suddenly ditched the habit? As for the beard, 1 it's what he does whilst thinking and 2, beards itch!

  • @ninjabreadman1993r Whatever. The proof is in the pudding. The series has spanned 27 years, the author died before he finished it, an unrelated novelist has been brought in for THREE MORE BOOKS, and the remaining fans will have to wait until 2012 until the last book comes out.

As Sanderson polishes off the series, critics have compared it to fan fiction, and book sales have dropped dramatically. That's all damning evidence that readers got sick of it and abandoned WoT en masse.

  • @GozerTheGozerian ...style does take getting used to, there are vast parts that have been written by Jordan prior to his death. Critics reactions are mixed; there is no clear difference between the number of good and bad reviews, and I think there are just as many people who want to finish the series. Some critics may compare it to FF, but others like it. I personally like how Sanderson has developed Talmanes, and his Mat is actually pretty funny. That cliffhanger in TOM was cruel, though

  • @ninjabreadman1993r i finished the gathering storm and am about halfway through towers of midnight and while it has been ages since i finished knife of dreams it still feels like it should.

  • I loovee the game Oblivion....when you think about it, it can be really simmilar to WoT.

  • nice game... maybe i wil get a shoot at it..

in portuguese are only the first 4... im waiting for the fifth... lets see

  • How could you use Trollocs and Myrddraal for defending your citadel?

    You evil person!

  • This game is cool but it's just too short. Multiplayer doesn't work anymore. At least not for me... :(

  • I never knew there was a WoT game LoL.

I guess I'll have to download it :)

And to those who have asked.. Yes they are making an MMO and also a live-action movie. I have the highest of hope for these but i fear my hopes will turn to crushed dreams. Light!

  • u talking about the new spring movie?

  • It's gonna be the eye of the world

  • i read all eleven books (cant wait 4 the last books!) in like six months, and was obsessed so much i readd them all over again.....twice

  • How are your eyes holding out? xD

  • well...i just got glasses....coincidental??? :P

  • out now isnt it... 0_o gathering storm...

  • yeah...I'm listening to it on audio-tape-thing-whatever. I'm too cheap to buy the book X_X

  • i thought audio tapes are like £50 rnt they...?

  • @Vrael1022 piracy is easy for audiobooks, he probably means that.

  • like november this year but its only the 1st part of 3 for the last book(they divide it up in 3 parts) This 1st part is called The Gathering Storm

  • does any one know when the last book will be realeased

  • november this year.but its split into 3 parts .the next will be out next year and the final the year after that.

  • They really need a 09 version of this, not the MMORPG they're making.

  • Are they making an MMORPG?

  • Yep it's in the works as we speak.

  • Nice. The scary thing is that the only articles are about the announcement(in November 2008),but from there,no more news.I hope they finish games(from what i've understood, there will be also a sp game)and movie. Also,i'm thinking about buying the first book.I'm getting interested in these days about this series.

  • Have you read the series yet? It's an amazing series in my own opinion.

  • No,but i've checked on wikipedia and various fan sites, and i think i'll give a try buying the first book.I hope to have the patience to read 800 pages.

  • I'm not one for reading but I read the first one and loved it so started like last october I've just finished reading the eleventh book. Don't read to much wikipedia now, don't want to spoil it XD

  • Sincerely from wiki i've understood few things. The good part of the things i know are from fan sites.

  • Try not to pay attention to any wheel of time news. You can easily have a huge plot line spoiled.

  • Not between book 5 and 11, nothing happens.

  • are they really making a MMORPG out of the WoT? I think a RTS would way better but thats just me

  • Yes they are and I agree with you, or else a updated version of this would be nice.

  • well shit its better then nothing.

burn me i cant wait to play it

  • anyone knows where to buy/download this game??

  • I suppose I have another version, the TA icons look different in my game.. But I love it =D

  • Probably patched, I guess... maybe not.

  • i love the books..id love that

  • I'm disappointed at some of these comments. Firstly, I owned the game and at the time its graphics were on par with Resident Evil, Metal Gear and above Oddworld. Some of you are even outraged when you haven't played the game. Why should they be completely faithful to the books? If you want the books, go read the books. Notice how the books are still intact? I don't even know how you could say this was a quick cash in since WoT isn't a high profile series to begin with.

  • As far as gameplay, there were many obstacles and puzzles you had to solve given your resources. Not all of your spells were to damage or protect. The ambience was involving and there was always something new thrown your way. The only complaint I have is with the clunky inventory system and how trollocs take too much damage.

One last thing- to you people asking for a movie or a series... does everything need to be made into a movie or a series or a guitar case for you people?

  • would have to agree and say that a movie or series would ruin the WOT because there is noone alive who could make it anywhere close to how it was written. Case in point the "Legend of the Seeker" series for the sword of truth novels

  • people would get sooo bored of the legend of the seeker series being EXACTLY like the novels .. i know i would.. I LOVE how they added new things to the episodes and new characters,, it makes it even better,, to make a series EXACTLY like the book counterpart would make the shows SOOO BADD..legend of the seeker is BRILLIANT

  • Will this work on Vista? I saw a copy of this the other day for 5 dollars and was tempted to pick it up but want to know if it will work on a Vista computer. If anyone can help, much appreciated.

  • It should. You will have to tweak some of the settings and also click to run it in compatability mode.

  • works without tweaking at my laptop (Vista too)

  • Hunter is an assassin for the Dark One, thats why people say he might have killed Asmodean. Chap, you say you finished so you should know who and what Hunter/Slayer is. Come on man. And check Red Eagle Entertainment's site, the books have been optioned for a movie around the same time Robert Jordan died.

  • there were never any clues.. The only thing was that death took him-probably by a sword. Rand was not sure, he thought Asmodean ran away, he didnt feel any channeling

  • You know what I think? I think we should make a protest and demand a movie or series,. I just finised the books and can't wait for A Moonlight or something - hope the replacement author is good. I love the books- totally brillian - well plotted variety of characters. But who killed Asmodean? Hunter? i dont think so! What does Hunter have to with it? He hunts only wolves!

  • the only clues to who killed Asmodean is one of the forsaken

  • @intensechap Graendal made Slayer assassinate Asmodean

  • THe series would make such AMAZING movies. You have to go book to book though you can't lump it all together. It wouldn't do it justice to have one or two movies for the whole entire thing. With computer generated graphics you can create things on a massive scale and it won't be too expensive.

  • CG is pretty expensive you know....

  • No i didn't know that, I thought it would be cheaper

  • Its a good thing for the world that I cannot wield the power. Because if I could I would crush you all like bugs

  • xyoungwolfx are you a guy?

  • I DID NOT THERE WAS GODDAMN GAME OF THIS!!!!! CAN I STILL BUY IT IN SHOPS! maybe Amazon, maybe if I get lucky at a sale ...

  • I would say he didn't finish it because he planned it to be longer than most of the other books. That and he had a life threatening disease, but I'm not sure if that hindered the almighty Jordan. It's not that he didn't want to, just that he didn't have enough time. That, combined with the fact that he wrote three pages of the book per day. No more, no less.

  • He died WHILE writing the final book. Anyone who has done any research whatsoever that since his death, much care was taken in orginizing his notes on how the final book would be completed, as well as the decision regarding who is going to finish the book.

  • @byrobyro he spent A LOT of time writing what would happen in the book, before writing the actual book. that's why it can even be finished now, by someone else

  • @byrobyro dont hate on RJ d@$¤

  • first, you are a moron. RJ didn't start the series knowing that he would die before he could publish is final story. secondly, When he did discover that he had only a few years to live he compiled notes and tapes so that someone could finish(brandon sanderson). It is very arrogant to assume that he CHOSE not to finish his books. the complexity of the story is such that jordan couldn't just get it done in his lifespan. last, jordan didn't have to give us anything. were lucky to have what we got

  • @byrobyro no offense but you try writing 2500+ pages of fantasy novel that remains gripping on every page over 2 years (figure of 200 based on length of previous books and estimated length of future book)

  • @byrobyro well...he is dead you know...

  • @byrobyro stfu dipshit. He was writing the best high epic fantasy series ever written. Don't judge him, especially since hes dead.

  • Man, it would be so tight if they made a good game like oblivion. In a couple years in the future, so you could be anyone in the whole world and get to do whatever. Randomize where you live, and randomize who you are by when you first register online.

Then if you are playing by yourself you could play a main character. Would be to addicting though.

  • they toasted WoT.

any one know when the last book is comming out lol?

  • Last I heard... I think late 2009.

  • @Brojc The very last (presumably, but at this rate who knows? *lol*) is supposed to be early 2012. Wikipedia has the summary. Just search "The Wheel of Time." And make sure you have "the" in there or you'll get Buddhist symbolism.

  • @iamnuff1992 according to wikipedia late 2012

  • i think that WoT would make a brill game.

But to be honest though i think it needs better graphics...well that was what i thought until the thing at the end came up and said 1999, well maybe could do a remake but make the graphics better so its more realistic XD

  • Does anyone know whether this game runs on Microsoft XP? It would be a pity to buy it and realize that it can`t be played by my computer.

  • it does

yet there may be a problem about an error while loading, but having chosen the same resolution of your desktop you can fix it (I mean if you want 1280-1024 in the game, you should choose 1280-1024 for your desktop)

  • true but if they made it tv series it might have a chance, each season would be a book and would have more eps than other shows to avoid skipping and leaving out stuff but it would be possible, im sure the first and maybe 2nd seasons would be somewhat cheap to make ( less giant battles and outageosly awsm channeling) but im sure it would be awsm, maybe even multiple eps a week so it wouldnt take a jillion years to fin.

  • i would watch it

  • Dude. To make WoT into a movie/game it would just be next to impossible. The book is far to complex and intricate, not to mention the length to transfer into a move/game.

  • i agree. jordans book focus so deeply on the characters, and the plot, although AMAZING< takes second stage. i loved the wot more then any books ever written, and no game or movie can depict his realm.

  • How dare they... What a sham.

  • The single player game literally SUCKS ! Multi player is better, you want to play it for 2 hours - then quit ...

They used WoT`s popular fan base to sell a stupid game, this game is BASED on worlds MOST popular and best fantasy series ... but it isn`t worth playing.

    A.

  • You sir, are very uneducated.

10 years after this game's release, people still play it. There has never been one official patch or update, yet the game has persevered. Its fan base was small due to poor marketing and the competition from other more well-known games that came out at the time. No other community, however, has been more close and no other game has drawn my attention for anywhere near as long.

Perhaps you only played the multiplayer for 2 hours, because of the steep learning curve

  • i just downloaded the demo version to ty it out. i tried the multiplayer but cant find a server..

the graphics and the control are good.

  • IS there melee combat in the game I did not se any

  • they should make a WoT MMORPG

  • poor WoT. It's just too complex and intellectual to translate into a popular game/movie well.

  • this series is great but the game of it looks like shit. they should make a new game and have it more like JA.

  • Wheel of Time was one of the most underrated games of all time. For the day, the graphics were superb, the soundtrack was excellent, and the multi-player gameplay was quite innovative (in terms of "weapons" and their effects). Sadly, the game had a heyday of less than a year...

  • I think with todays tec we could give the WoT world a pretty good look as far as putting it in an mmorpg. just look at what they did with Oblivion. It could be set in the 4th age or some other time.

  • try wotmud.ord i thought it was preety good, that is, if you like muds.

  • this was bullshit, i didn't mind the story line deviations or the graphics, but the gameplay . . .

  • You can't ever nail the story perfectly on a video game, or a movie; especially the wheel of time, the world is so massive in those books, it would be nearly impossible to make a movie short enough without cutting out any of the details, and with a video game, there would be parts of the book having to removed from the game because of a lack of game play that can be implemented.

  • game sucks books rock

  • lol i love WOT but this is bullshit really just bullshit

  • Of course it looks out of date, this game was released back in 2000!

Back then it was state of the art graphics.

Do your research before you start slating it.

  • lol i ment the storyline its fucked up compared to the books

  • Admittedly I find it hard to believe any game or film will ever live up to the books.

It's like Lord of the Rings, where they managed a good job after spending 280 million smackers, only WoT would be 12 time harder, considering LoC is nearly as long as the three books combined.

  • no the longest book in the whole series is the fires of heaven

  • The longest book is Lord of Chaos with 1024 pages.

  • well im talking about paper back books are u talking about hard back or wat because fires of heaven is definitly the longest out of paper back

  • also i just count the pages of the story its self not the glossery and all that i jsut count the prelude and the story so yeah idk how ur doing it by

  • I'm talking about the paperback one, the latest publication of it. Any how, I've been doing a little trivial research and it's actually The Shadow Rising which has the most words so it seems we're both wrong:)

  • well thats just words i mean he could have used smaller words so it wouldnt have taken up all of those pages when i go to my friends house next i will check the page numbers onthose 3 books and i will figure it out lol because this will be bugging me for aWhile

  • I've got Shadow and FoH, the publication with the black background, and their page numbers (not including glossary) are 1001 and 889 respectively. Plus Shadow doesn't have a prologue so the main story is statistically the longest.

  • LoC?

  • Lord of Chaos, the sixth book.

  • That looks disgusting. I feel sorry for the books :(

  • Do you think a WOT movie will be made? It is the second step after the game.

  • If they made a movie I'm sure that they would butcher it. They should make a series (but not on sci fi channel, they ruin everything!)

  • i love this game as it bring wonderful memorys.

  • p.s. it's a lot better than it looks... tthat's a pre release version.

  • go to sahrs . net / wot for it

  • awesome game
