  • Aww... What a shame. I really liked this game. Then again, a game doesn't have to be good for you to enjoy it.

  • The capcom you loved as a kid is gone HVGN. They killed Megaman.

  • You missed one thing: Konami had Metal Gear Solid, and Capcom had________? Complete this anyone.

  • @TheNintendo101 Or, Capcom had Street Fighter II, Konami had _________.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheNintendo101 metal gear solid didn't exist at the time, it came mutch later for the PS1

  • @spiersaz maybe he meant Metal Gear. But eh, nevermind and whatever.

  • Its 100% the fault of the source material, same as Frankenstein's monster. i LOVE the Monster in my Pocket figures from the 90s (well, only the first few series of em) but the game is just meh.

  • Can you do a game quickie on Mickey mouse house of illusion on the genesis! Would be awesome if u could do that

  • Do you Know that Capcom means CAPsule COMputer. Did you know That????

  • Beating a game in 20 minutes isn't worth $5 to me..

  • @applemetatin1

    1. This guy is not anything like Irate Gamer.

    2. Because for one he actually knows a goddamn thing or two about video games and how to review them. I'm pretty convinced that Irate Gamer doesn't even LIKE video games.

    3. Irate Gamer is a shitty AVGN ripoff and god help you if you're one of the poor delusional saps who think otherwise.

  • @kingboobs20 Woah woah woah! Let´s calm down here. You know somethin? I bet AVGN ALSO is a rip-off. of Nostalgic Critic Guy BUT. Actually, when you think about it, EVERYTHING is a rip-off. The only thing in common among NCG, AVGN, IG and HVGN is that theyre ALL CRITICS and another thing might be that AVNG, IG and HVGN focuses on video games. Its like the old dilemma about Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros 2. Which one is the original. I say just have a coke with a smile and shut the fuck up.
  • @TheGeno28

you dont mean rip-off, you mean they borrow material from each other,

    two completely different things

    but still, good observation!

  • @kingboobs20 Damn you didn't just t-bag him you fucking slaughtered him. It's so good it's admirable.

  • Konami had Metal Gear and Capcom had(insert game here) SEE ONE EXAMPLE OF NO COMPARISON

  • I don't see the comparison between Monster in my Pocket amd Rescue Rangers with Little Nemo. Only 1 or 2 levels in Little Nemo were like the other 2, and in 1 level Nemo is big.

  • The way i always looked at it is Capcom was better on the NES and Konami was better on the SNES, but thats just me personally.

  • Who or what is Bucky o hare?

  • I'm doing a Let's Play of this game, right now, if anyone's interested in watching a full playthrough with commentary.

  • If you're talking about pint-sized action games on the nes that have that big little world perspective, then how come you're not mentioning tom and jerry. It certainly had a lot of that and it was pretty fun albeit a bit challenging.

  • "Yeah..."

  • it says konami on the tv ^_^

  • oh yeah i love this game *_*

  • For the longest time, I thought this was where they got the idea for the name of Pocket Monsters aka Pokemon.

    Nice screencap from Young Frankenstein.

  • the greatest game ive ever played on the pc is pajama sam it is really fun you should reveiw that game next

  • lol I played this game when I was 6 or 7 yrs old

  • what a stupid irate gamer rip off

  • @applemetatin1 dude stfu irate gamer sucks avgn is better and this guy atleast admits that he was inspired by the avgn work unlike irate gamer

P.S. irate gamer is worse than this guy

  • @applemetatin1 I think I figured out what you really are, your not an actual fan, nope. You were once a normal human being and then the Irate Gamer Kidnapped you and then he implanted a chip in your brain to make you his fan, he probably did that to his other 10 fans that he "actually" has. by the way, go fuck yourself

  • @applemetatin1 LOL..... people LIKE irate?

  • @idontevenhavestuff Honestly, yes Irate completely rips of AVGN, but at least he does it better than other people have.. And he has reviewed some things that AVGN hasn't(I think)...so I get a couple new game reviews to watch.... But still AVGN and HVGN are the best ones xD

  • i love this game and i find it hard ^-^

  • I'm pretty sure the game was based on the tv series, which was based on the toys... not directly based on the toys.

I remember loving the show, but the game... meh.

  • 3:58

    Captain mozzerala, much?

  • its imposible to complete this game in 20 minutes

  • @dariodborbon i agree you can complete this in 34 min but not in 20 min

  • is the game title a pokemon ripoff or a dick joke?

  • @idontevenhavestuff pokemon came after monster in my pocket, in fact nintendo wouldve named pokemon pocket monsters if there wasnt monsters in my pocket

  • @OrinjFlames24 i was kidding.

  • @OrinjFlames24 You mean Nintendo America, right? It is Pocket Monsters in Japan, where it originated.

  • @idontevenhavestuff well it's actually a different story, i'll tell you about it if you ask.

  • @gigawarman12 actually nvm, anyways, BOOM!

  • @gigawarman12 ... why not.

  • @idontevenhavestuff Im losing track

  • Monster in my Pocket is one reason why Pocket Monster became Pokemon!

  • a monster in my pocket? you mean pokemon right?

  • oh, monster in my pocket.... brings back a lot of memory :D

  • Monster in my pocket is one of my favorite NES games... subbed!

  • IMO, Konami beats capcom :P

  • what! I had no idea about this game.. .but I actually owned the figures as a kid. Cool to see again =)

  • Monster in my Pocket reminds me of Pokemon

I wonder why? Its just as Hard as 2 + 2 Nobody Fucking Knows

  • when the heros are watching TV look whats the company "Konami" real creative

  • Monster in my Pocket? Is this the game why they renamed Pocket Monsters outside of JPN?

It seems like a fun game to play when you're bored.

  • monster in my pocket = shorten version pocket monster= and if ur smart i think u can figure out where im goin with it.

  • I agree Bucky O'hare owns!!

  • we used to collect these things as kids... they came in boxes. boxes of rubber monsters. you remember those?!

  • Isn't this only a PAL game?

  • i love how u say konami

  • I loved the game!

  • what is 2:06 from? I NEVER SAW THAT IN THE GAME ^^;

  • would be cool if it was more like pokemon or shin megami tensei

  • the bad guy looks like Guile.

  • thank you<video+10

  • 2:51 ha, tv says konami on it! hopefully snake isn't hidin' it

  • @flipski909 Partially because he gives credit that he's somewhat of a spoof, and partially because I don't think he's actually making any money off of these.

Oh, and because AVGN isn't a douche. Sure, he COULD slap this guy with a C&D, but why would he except to be a dick? It's just a cool guy making good videos, who cares if he borrowed the name?

  • Can anyone tell me what the game at 0:15 is? I used to play it as a kid, but I, for the life of me, Can't remember what it's called.

  • @TwilightWolf183 The kid jumping through the paper wall? That's Kid Niki - Radical Ninja for the NES

  • @seanobi777 Which was originally an arcade game known as Kaiketsu Yanchamaru, that was followed by Kaiketsu Yanchamaru 2 and 3 exclusively for the Famicom. This series spawned Daiku no Gen-san / Hammerin' Harry, one of Irem's last very successful arcade games before the sales of their later ones went downhill. The Gen-san / Hammerin' Harry franchise is much larger.

  • at 2:59 konami makes Televisons

  • Uh uhh we're gonna kick your butt. Lololol

  • Loving how you used Gene Wilder for Frankenstein

  • game "quickie" hehehe.

  • My favorite third-party gaming company is Konami, mainly because it has Metal Gear Solid.

  • you said that konami's counterpart for MegaMan was Castlevania, then what's Capcom's counterpart for Contra

  • @burf12345 commando or mercs on the megadrive

  • well in that aspect Konami won

  • Is it just me or does "Warlock" look like Guile from Street Fighter?

  • you got a subscription out of me just for saying 'Frankenstein is the Doctor'

I hate it when people call the monster 'Frankenstein'!, lol

  • @flabslapper He got a subscription from me for reviewing Earthbound. :3

  • @flabslapper Frankenstein is the monster not the doctor you noob

  • @MakeAGameWithMe Actually, that's not true. Frankenstein is the name of the doctor. Not the monster, everyone knows that

  • @PhantosTheHedgehog no trust me, Frankenstein is the name of the doctor and not the monster

  • @MakeAGameWithMe Oh whoops. I misread your comment. Sorry

  • @PhantosTheHedgehog no its me joking around, sorry=)

  • @MakeAGameWithMe You're lucky you're an obvious troll or I would have seriously shit myself

  • @flabslapper hehe yeaa i just couldnt control myself it was to tempting to write it=)

  • @MakeAGameWithMe lol yeah I can understand that :3

  • I'd compare Megaman to Contra instead of Castlevania :P

  • Megaman can only aim on the X axis and has much more emphasis on platforming. The enemies also don't shoot projectiles all that often. The closest you'd get from a Capcom made Contra would be Commando, even if it is from a different perspective than Contra.

  • @0rcryst Yeah, for Castlevania, I would've compared to Ghost n' Goblins.

  • Yeah. Pretty lackluster graphics for Konami, especially when it came out after Little Nemo and Chip n' Dale. The toy line/comics didnt last long so maybe that impacted the amount of resources put into development.

  • nice tradeoff with a good average game with great soundtrack which konami is good for.

  • Hey HVGN, why don't u start rating games out off 5 stars?

  • @clearvisonlover

the HVGN is inspired by the AVGN and the AVGN doesn't rate games

  • Uh-uhhhh, we're gonna kick your butt!

  • Yeah, I do agree. Game was fun but just way too short. But I suppose it was because each stage looks pretty creative and different thus most of cartridge's memory went in to graphics.

That is just my guess tho. But when you get a second player, this game gets pretty fun.

  • Nice review, but how did you go the entire video without mentioning Contra, possibly one of Konami's best games...? Ah well.

  • Another Great Video From The Hvgn Nice!

  • konami also mad ethe kickass SMB3 ripoff: tiny toon adventures. That was a good one, too.

  • As always, I love your reviews. Short but good. Keep 'em coming :)

  • One of those games best described as "a renter".

  • Other licensed NES games Konami made besides those you mentioned are Astro Boy, The Goonies 1 and 2, Hinotori, Top Gun, Top Gun: The Second Mission, King Kong 2: Ikari no Megaton Punch, Bill Elliot's NASCAR Challenge (NASCAR Fast Tracks for Game Boy), and Mission: Impossible. Konami made like more licensed games than even Sega. Their least known arcade beat 'em up was Asterix (1991), based on the French graphic novel of the same name.

  • Or probably Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa (1992), based on the cartoon show created by Ryan Brown of the TMNT series and originally aired on ABC. Bucky O'Hare was also originally a lesser-known licensed beat 'em up by Konami, before becoming a platforming action game for the NES.

  • Personally i think Konami are the best ever. Capcom is freakin awesome tho.

  • Really loving your reviews mate, please keep them coming and if you get the time check out my vids too cheers ;o)

  • awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

    great review dude!!!!

  • Nice review, but more than anything, thanks for being one of the few who actually knows not to call the monster 'Frankenstein'. Honestly, I don't know HOW it came to be that such an interesting story came to be boiled down from an intelligent, but misunderstood flesh golem and the creator who wants to escape the memory of his act, to completely forgetting the creator and giving a mindless, murderous abomination the creator's name.. But yeah, love your reviews, and I can't wait for the next one!

  • sweet!

  • ever played Toki ?

    that was a cool game

  • hey ho wer will chattn ich bon soo gelangweilt

  • I've played the EXACT same game but it was with Batman...Now I know why it didn't make any sense.... :D Nice game, though.Perfect for killing 15 - 20 minutes before going out.

  • Yeah, I used to own that one too. Batman was Player 1 and 'Flash' (a red-clored Batman that looked more like Daredevil) was Player 2

  • awesome review :)

  • WOT TOMFOLLERY IS THIS

  • Oh yeah gotta say, thanks again HVGN. I always enjoy your reviews.

  • Final Fight vs Ninja Turtles... who else actually picks Final Fight?

I pick Michaelangelo for the win. Cuz he's a party dude. Also, if you decide to get rude, youtube; I pick Raphael - because he's cool but rude. Just like your mom. Prepare for a scorching case of butthurt (or complete apathy, since this is just a video game) if you reply in disagreement.

p.s. - Arguing over video games is like winning the special olympics. No matter what, ur still retarded.

    Consider me retarded :-)

  • usually i agree with you bro, but i definitely have to call bullshit. i picked this game up at a fleamarket from some mexican who only understood "3 dollars" and brought it home to find i had just spent the best 3 dollars of my life. it was so fun i called my best friend over to play it with me! we still play this when the rainy days show up so i hope you give it a second look. you still rock however keep up the awesome work!

  • HOLY HELL! This was one of my absolute favorite games as a kid.

  • i though game quikie was a gaming historian thing?

  • actually, its more of a Retroware thing as many other people from that site does a Game Quickie but I believe this is Derek's 1st Quickie

  • You are the best, man.!

  • I think you were wrong about this one. The controls are tight, the gameplay is fast and action packed, the levels have lots of variety as far as gameplay is concerned, the music is good, the graphics are actually damn good for the NES, and I think the easy gameplay is somewhat refreshing compared to the balls ass hard difficulty of most NES games (and Chip and Dale was just as easy, btw). IMO Monster in my Pocket was a better playing game than any Castlevania and it looked better too.

  • Fun fact: Team Murata Keikaku, an internal Konami team that made this game, also made Akumajou Special Boku Dracula Kun, aka... Kid Dracula.

So it holds a place in my heart for that alone.

  • well hello there guile how did you turn blonde after that brown hair

  • i thought this game was cool.

  • I mostly remember this game because of Nick Arcade

  • OMG, ME TOO! That's why I picked it up when I saw it at a used game store, I was like "OMG, they used to have this on Nick Arcade back in the day!"

  • Sweet, another review!

That's suposed to be the Frankenstein monster? I thought it was just some 80's looking dude at first.

    You say "Konami" funny.

  • He's trying to pronounce it more accurate to the Japanese language, but I gotta be honest, it sounds a little pretentious, especially given the nature of the reviews. 10 years ago I probably wouldn't have minded it, but the overzealous Japanese/Anime fanboyism nowadays makes me automatically dislike anything Japanese that seems culturally out of place in America. In other words, if you have a wall of Anime, 5 samurai swords, and eat tofu at every meal...I'd probably rather not talk to you.

  • I don't have any of those things. The only Anime I like is Trazor Z. Most people never heard of it.

  • I wasn't saying you did, I meant in general. Overzealous anime fanboys creep me out.

  • Surprised Konami slapped their name on it... looks more like something their shitty spinoff company Ultra Games (who wrote the original TMNT for NES) created

  • I may get flamed but I actually think Atlus, Koei, and Namco are pretty good third party companies too.

I found the Oriental theme stage to look kinda interesting and shows how small your character is when comparing it to the lanterns and shoji screens.

  • ["I may get flamed but I actually think Atlus, Koei, and Namco are pretty good third party companies too"]

Agreed. In my experience, the worst have been LJN, THQ, and Bandai.

  • Shame Tim Follin worked with LJN.

Imagine what he could've done for Konami.

  • He worked for Software Creations, not LJN.

  • if he was in konami

then solid snake kills monkey head

and shit bombs and birds and can't use any item or anything

    LJN makes things worse!!!

  • do a review on bugsy, used to love that game (still do)

  • I like to call the monster "Frankenstein's Monster" by the way the vampire kinda looked like nosferatu to me.

  • you ment contra. not castlevania.

  • What a sweet and satisfaying quickie~ *purr*

    *joke*

Monster in my Pocket, I didn't even know the franchise.. maybe it didn't come out in German, or then it came out, I wasn't interested in it (or my brother.. he was more in He-Man anyway..)

  • 'Game Quickie; twice as long as some... other... game reviewer '

    Good stuff ;)

  • i like this game alot

  • Nice poweblade reference.

    I do prefer shatterhand however.

You should cover shatterhand. Amazing game.

  • Huzzah, I like this game. Admittedly it's not super amazing or anything. I would like to point out that the two player is quite fun though.

  • Oh wow...I actually got this game and beat it a few days ago. Convenient...

This game has such a great soundtrack though. I think it does compare to other great soundtracks like Journey to Silius (Got that too! FUCK YA!).

  • Konami and Capcom's quality are proof that Japan is better at games.

  • At least on consoles.

  • in my oppinion they were better not any more

  • Wasn't that game quickie thing a game historian thing?

    Especially with that theme tune?

  • i guess its a retroware tv thing

  • I had the same thought.

  • Speaking of Konami, TMNT Hyperstone Heist is quite overlooked, especially when comparing it to Turtles in Time

  • Awesome! Oh by the way, did you know a new rocket knight game coming out!

  • A bad day at work and school. Had to find a new apartment... Nothing else makes me happier then seeing HVGN and his New Videos on my subscription update

  • I hope he does Snake rattle n Roll

  • thank you derek keep em coming

  • good memories.. easy memories...

  • Speaking of Konami, you should do a ep. on SNATCHER sometime.

  • Snatcher isn't exactly an underlooked game though. I still think it deserves an episode, but if there is an overlooked Sega-CD game that is fun and awesome it would be "Rise of the Dragon" and "Popful Mail: Magical Fantasy Adventure"

  • Man, it's great to see you making video's again

  • That game you will do next is a Mega Man clone well that's okay.

  • keep going

  • 3:00

  • I remeber that I played this game a lot with my friends , it was so awesome.....especially for 2 players and that awesome soundtrack............

  • I loved this game, and I remember it being challenging. x'3

But it's probably because I sucked back then. Still we beat it, so no sweat.

  • nice! I wouldn't mind seeing more of these quickies :)

  • OMG he made a video

  • happy gamer makes me happy!
