Hitlers bunker is no longer there. It underwent at least three different demolitions to completely erase it. The above ground parts were dismantled in the 1940's, more was torn out in the 1970's, and finally in 1989 (I was in Berlin in June of "89) the remaining walls and foundations were scrapped out. If there is any left at all, it would be some concrete debris and nothing more. A man filmed the bunker before its last demo and it still held artifacts in it surprisingly.

Somebody must have told you that what you were filming is not the remains of the fuhrerbunker. If you wolud have walked down the street, to your right, and turned left two blocks down, you would have come to a great sign saying "Here is the Fuhrer Bunker". Our guide did the same thing to us. I even asked the guy sitting in the shelter to the right, by the parking lot, and he only laughed when I asked if that was the bunker. The bunker was destroyed, how can it be a hill on top of it?

There is no part of the lower bunker that is accessible or even intact. The upper bunker was collapsed into the lower by the russians. The upper bunker walls and pillars were levelled down to the lower bunker ceiling then built on. The lower bunker regularly flooded, so there is nothing down there but thousands of tons of compacted wet rubble.

We have a magazine over here called AFTER THE BATTLE who have done some pretty amazing investigative journalism into all the great war stories. The Bunker issue is a 'must have' copy. Do a UK search for the afterthebattle website for a full list of backnumbers - you won't regret it.

AFTER THE BATTLE issue 61 refers to bunker excavation after the wall came down and shows the building and destruction (and what remains) of the chancellery complex. This shows pretty much all known bunker internal photos from 1945.

Bunker was explored when the wall came down but upper level was collapsed into the lower one by russians in 1945. The authorities couldn't eradicate it so they did the next best thing and built on it. Interstingly, they found the Goebbels' children's bunk beds and menu cards offering the dish SALAT EVA. Most intriguing find was a typwriter - possibly THE typewriter on which Hitlers will was composed. The lower level is under thousands of tons of concrete.
