  • They looks really fun:-)

  • Whoa, how in the world do you land from a flip with a split?! Watching that made my legs hurt! Such amazing dancers!

  • 4:23 sounds like "Naked Gun" intro :)

  • I love it!

  • Full body climax...

  • Привет из России! Ну просто замечательнейшая музыка! What I can say... it is the diamond of the world jazz.

  • "Tex Dawg Whatchoo sayin'?"

"Bitch Please! it's my day" :D

  • Quite possibly the greatest overall music/dance scene ever put on film. Thank god it exists for today's and future generations to see. And the Nicholas Brothers - OMG what incredible talent and athleticism. Check them out with the GM band on I got a gal in Kalamazoo and my favorite Down Argentine Way

  • I liked the second version more, those guys really can dance unlike the crap we get nowadays... =)

  • simpler times :)

  • Being born in this time period is a blessing, but there's just some things that we cant match thees days.

  • Perfect. Pure entertainment, and such talent!. Both versions.

  • When Halle Berre accepted the Oscar a few years ago, she mentioned Dorothy Dandridge in her acceptance speech, this is one of the reasons why....Dorothy paved the way for her...

  • Such a good song

  • They all look like they had a fun time recording this.

  • Amazing! Thank you! :-)

  • She reminds me Betty Boop for some reason :)

  • 2:06

  • Damn I wish I wasn't born in the wrong generation

  • @MDavila301 Hehe I know what you mean :-)

  • @MDavila301 You'd have to have been born in the great depression and there's no way you would "wish" to live in that.

  • anybody else addicted to the part between Tex and the Nicholas brothers and the Nicholas brothers Dancing?

  • Four people missed the train...

  • Were those shoes just smoking???

Never mind. It was my head exploding from the awesomeness :D

  • @milwain186 they was on fire! nowadays ya cant set shoes on fire

  • Notice that the Nicholas Brothers change the lyrics, editing out the line "Boy, you can give me a shine."

  • @RaananVolesPianist back in the day, calling black men boys was considered bad.

  • 4 thumbs down idiots have seen this video.

  • Wahnsinn!

  • Dorothy owns it.

  • Damn, that's perhaps the greenest like bar I've ever seen.

  • how much i would have given to be in that room while they were playing that!

  • Похоже, что эта вещь бессмертна!!! Прошло 70 лет, а она неимоверно популярна. Давно уж нет тех, кто ее сочинил и впервые исполнил, а она жива, свежа и радует слух!!!

  • I recognised Milton Burle 2x.America has ALWAYS had talent!

  • i recognised Milton Burle

  • have posted this brilliant clip to my Facebook page for Father''s Day. My dad was always playing Glenn Miller (and The Andrews Sisters) as I was growing up. I am a big fan of rock music but his is just timeless!! Love Tex Benekes' voice too .Very under rated vocalist

  • Brilliant. This is big band

  • 4:10-4:40, I kinda wish they dragged that out some more

    great vid all the same

  • Such outstanding musical talented singers and performers back in the day when music made you feel alive inside!

  • What a pity the black entertainers had no where to piss except in a bucket 'cause you can't have white guys pissing in the same toilet as a black man, they even drained a swimming pool in Hollywood 'cause Lena Horne's daughter swam in it,no wonder the black people eventually said enough is enough,we whites were ignorant in those days, lets hope we have learned something since.

  • @adoreslaurel You whites are still ignorant. you whites still have the spirit of hate in your hearts and blood.

  • How politically incorrect, "Pardon me boy? afro americans would bridle at that line today.

  • @adoreslaurel u damn right

  • @adoreslaurel Very true, but, at least in this case, Tex Beneke keeps calling the white guys “boy”, too. So, in this song it’s kind of OK, but you make a good point about how that whole business of calling black guys “boy” in general back in those days was bad.

  • I still crack up seeing Milton Berle.

  • That tap dancing was beautiful!

  • also, i luv these old things. YOU WONT SEE THAT KIND OF TALENT ANYMORE! EVERYTHING NOWADAYS IS CHOREOGRAPHED WHILE EVERYTHING BACK THEN WAS SOMEWHAT IMPROVISED!

  • sounds like something that would be played in an airport, during christmas, while all the flights are cancelled due to a blizzard

  • The only people that disliked this were the ones who weren't able to listen to this amazing music live.

  • black people were so merry back then

  • papá, tus hermosas canciones que nos enseñaste!

  • So much god given talent on one stage.

    You won't see that today!

  • The GOOD old days!

  • There's NO decision about it, it IS most definetly BETTER than the CRAP we hear BOOMING out of cars, trucks, and vans these days !!!!!!

  • @sr71ablackbird Damn right!

  • haha i love the guy's face at 1:09

this kinda music is the best. i hate how kids nowadays think that all these hip hop songs are actual talent and they dont realize that the music they think is cool at the moment, wont be in a month. This kind of music sticks forever. God bless these guys

  • @LobsterShanty222 that is because there is NO talent like that these days !!!!!

  • There are no artists like this nowadays.

  • @DroseraBohemica that is because there is NO talent like that these days !!!!!

  • wow the boys at the end were the best dancers I have seen, its shame we don't see dancing like that these days, Loved it off to look for the film now :o)

  • super

  • super§!!!!! XD

  • Notice how everybody on stage has got some kind of talent... that's very rare these days...

  • @alfred0077..AMEN bro..more acoustic"instrument"s n drums" n less stupid"machines"..lyric"s n singing would be nice too haha..instead of a bunch of ghetto nonsense that"rhymes' so it"s all you need these day..some old musicians are still good(. but for most part new"music" is crap

  • We need more brass instruments in today's pop world.

  • The three voted by mistake...The Bros were great great great.......

  • Glenn Miller looks a lot like Stephen Colbert

  • @dangermonkeybob no stephen colbert looks like glenn miller!! :)

  • oh amazing!!!! i love the ending! choo choo!

  • absolutely great !!!! a splendid classic in music world !!! and...at this time no "blay-back"

  • Fantastic video.Thanks

  • Why doesnt Metallica play stuff like this?

  • I love how some bandsmen look like they just come in from doing chores.

  • Cualquier parecido con "El Sujeto" va correcto.

  • 3 people missed the train!

  • Sorry, I can't see this as racist. You have three incredibly talented african american performers given uninterrupted screen time to showcase their art. Now, it might be a little hookie, but remember it was the early 40's; most American movies few fluff pieces to distract people from the war. They even get applause, presumably from the Glenn Miller Band and others. I'm sure most performers of the day would have killed for screen time with the GMB

  • 2:50 lol

  • HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA every single person commenting this is either 50+ or mentally near death, so fucking old. im 16 and i found this through a show called black books. and tbh its rocking my socks cleaaaaan off.

  • @danielrox1969 Shut it boy, I'm 15 and I enjoy this music, there's kids that like REAL music instead of the shit they call music these days. :/

  • I wish I could go back in time and live the day of great music like back then...todays music has a LOT to be desired. This song has it all, and Milton Berle! Thanks for the post.

  • 今の若い人は、社交ダンスって、見たことも聞いたことも、ないんだろうな~・・たぶん?

  • This music is fun and amazing. It has become immortal.

  • I loved hearing these growing up and I still love to listen to them. It doesn't get any better.

  • I loved hearing these growing up and I still love to listen to them. It doesn't get any better.

  • three words, holy shit it

  • If you walk into any social dance club in America, you'll realise that none of this music went out of style. There are still those who fully embrace it and live it.

  • wow...this one video is real imortal for all times...a legend !!!

  • niicee

  • I used to think that it was still racist and sexist in the 40's, here there's girls and black guys, AWESOME TAPDANCING BY THe NICHOLAS BROTHERS

  • @mattfarti it *was* still unfortunately racist. In all honesty, as absolutely amazing and inspirational the Nicholas Brother are (and they are- makes Gene Kelly look like an amateur) - the footage featuring them would be edited out especially when shown in the Southern states. Notice how the Brothers and Dandridge just appear in the scene and are never seen again in the rest of the film?

  • @SilenceisGolden77 Nobody makes Kelly look like an amateur. Please. Why weaken your praise for these immensely gifted and original artists by making ridiculous remarks that baselessly attempt to denigrate the talents of others? Jeez.

  • @asd36f

    That's Uncle Miltie (Milton Berle)

  • Is that Fred McMurray at 3:54?

  • @asd36f

    That's Uncle Miltie (Milton Berle)

  • Crazy !!! Super !@!! I LiKE IT

  • Glenn Miller might have vanished during WW2 but with his music he lives forever. His best song has to be "Moonlight Serenade".

  • I absolutely Love this. Grew up with this music... it just can't be beat! xxxxxx

  • GLENN MILLER FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 3 people couldn't find the Chattanooga Choo Choo on track 29.

  • Go Dorothy Dandridge, Harold Nicholas, and Fayard Nicholas! Your singing and dancing is TRUE ART! If I could have I would have born a lot earlier in the century so I could see you perform in person :)

  • @sputnik1585 Ms. Dandridge was married to Harold, and, apparently, he didn't treat her very well.

She died of a drug overdose at the tender age of 42.

Images of her can be seen on Google. Was there ever a more beautiful lady?

  • @sputnik1585 You'd have to go to world war 2 tho D:

  • WHEN BLACKS PEOPLE WERE WORTH MORE,,,,, SHAME SHAME OF HOLLYWOOD,,,,,,,,,

  • This and "I have got a girl in Kalamazoo" are the best song by Glenn for me. Happy New Year from Argentina!

  • This is the only time when putting the video in 240p is enhancing the authencity. :P

  • Glenn Miller Band AND the Nicholas Brothers??? In one clip??? BRILLIANT!

  • Perfection!

  • 3 people didn't get choo-choo'd home. :c

  • I watched 'that' episode of Black Books and have had this song in my head ever since. GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • Come on people this was the best of times...... Ah glen so smooth.....

  • Whatever happened to spats anyway?

  • Astounding!

On a side note, this makes me wish that spats would become fashionable again.

  • Good evening, friends! Tomorrow, Dec. 7th- marks one of the pivotal moments in our nation's history- the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor-America's entry into World War 2. I did some checking- and this fantastic song was at number 1 on the music charts when our country was changed forever. Enjoy the music!

  • @jimmyb227 Interesting. Can you imagine what song was at number 1 in Japan at the time?

  • Honestly...entertainment doesn't get any better than THIS!

  • Just lovely. <3

  • they just don't make music like this anymore.

  • HOW CAN YOU BEAT THIS MUSIC? iT IS TRULY THE BEST THAT WE HAVE EVER PRODUCED,

HOW CAN SUCH MELODIC MUSIC RETURN? ALAS........WE CAN ONLY CRY AND HOPE THAT SOMETIME, SOMEHOW WE CAN DO THE SAME IN OUR TIME

  • @Cecil1575 That would take something most musicians lack. Talent!!!!

  • interesting, great music. Ever notice that men wore their pants higher compared to today. You can see Tex's pants looks pretty high rise.

  • I would go with the Glenn Miller version although the chick with the Nicholas brothers was sexier.

  • Trivia: As the camera pans round during the intro, the 3rd trumpet from the left is legendary arranger Billy May. I think people forget that the Miller band could wail with the best of them. Wonderful clip - thanks for sharing.

  • Very nice, thank you.

littlemissjonas28, Singing in the Rain came out 11 years after this movie. It is highly unlikely the Nicholas Brothers 'borrrowed' their steps from Kelly and O'Conner.

  • The Nicholas Bros. are doing a couple tap steps you can see Donald O'Conner and Gene Kelly do in the "Moses" scene of Singin' in the Rain. Dancers, so notorious for taking each others steps...

  • @littlemissjonas28 I think it might be the other way around. Singing in the Rain came out in 1952. This film was out in 1941.

  • The Nicholas Brothers were African American...

  • @Blucius13 Really!

  • @mondo78 I am not sure if this is sarcasm. But Yes! They must have replaced them in this video because of the attitudes on race in these days.

  • @mondo78 Oh! I am sorry. I had only seen the first half of the video and thought the supposed Nicholas Brothers sang the first chorus with that guy whistling. My mistake.

  • The golden Age of America, nothing can compare to this time period.

  • Why do I have the feeling that people nowadays can't perform something like this as well as these people did back then? It's not just playing the music, but an entire culture that cannot be relived.

  • Is that Skeets Herfert and Al Klink on the tenor saxophones ? Best regards Leebm29

  • @Leebm29 al Klink is on tenor and clarinet. Skeets never played in the Miller band.

  • if theres any other way to play a double bass than at 1:09 then I haven't seen it.

  • OK pas de problème, là on retrouve la classe, au sens noble du terme.

  • I would have to agree with zerekx! Wish more movies where done like this!

  • I would have to agree with zerekx! Wish more movies where done like this!

  • haha that whistling guy with the hat.. the way he looks makes me laugh.. he's brilliant

  • @funkyworm90 Tex Benneke

  • @funkyworm90 I see that hat and that getup, I start wondering about any wascaly wabbits in the vicinity.

  • Combining Tex Beneke with Paula Kelly & The Modernaires was a great idea ! Excellent jump tune from an absolutely great orchestra !

  • I was born in 1963 and I have a deep appreciation for this era. WW II was on the brink, people worked hard and they took the time to enjoy life. The women also knew how to carry themselves and men were men. Not like what we have today! Yeah yeah, I know that we can't go back in time and I will not deny myself to go in my mind and listen to this music and just imagine...;}

  • What a sweet video.

  • FANTASTIC ! ! ! !

  • Dorothy Dandridge... what a sexy lady with just as much talent as looks. The Nicholas Brothers, Glenn Miller's Orchestra and Dorothy--doesn't get better.

  • this is so captivating....these cats or so square, they're cool! Seriously, they are freakin cool to watch

  • ...just developed the hugest crush on Dorothy Dandridge...

  • I have noticed a lot people referring to this music as real music and slating the music of today, when really is it all that bad? I absolutely adore swing and big band stuff, however there are many fine artists around today that are equally as brilliant, they're just not commercial. The commercial music of today is piss poor however there are quite a few not so known bands that are amazing and quite a few DJ's now play a lot of dance songs with swing/jazzy highlights. You just need to find it

  • @ChrisCantHaveItAll Chris, you can't have it all.

  • @rlap you are the first person to ever say that to me haha. I wish I could...

  • I was not born when Glenn Miller was around and I still love his music it was a time when people sang songs with meaning, today there is no substance or meaning to songs, they are all alike. My children now listen to all this kind of music. It is so happy and you can not help but tap your feet. :)

  • I'd have to say the Nicholas Brothers were the best.It kinda surprises me that Glenn Miller's guys were so young?

  • Nothing today comes close to the class and sophistication of this classic stuff from Glenn Miller.

  • that Tex is one of the coolest whistlers i've ever heard :D

  • @Cadmanator I heartily agree. Nice round tone. Leebm29

  • Imagine if this was to be made and recorded today, There is no one with the talent to pull it off! Almost 70 years ago, amazing. Ther e is nothing like this today. Sorry! I forgot we've got X Factor.

  • Classics like this just get better with time. I had totally forgot about the tap dancing of the "second verse". Puts today's rappers to shame, to shame.

  • The singer is Tex Beneke, who later led the orchestra following Glenn Miller's death.

  • This music is depressing.

  • @beninmelb How? -.-

  • GLENN MILLER ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • these has been the best orchestra - glenn miller -

  • 2:40 before they even get to the singing - and she's sitting there crocheting ;). Ham 'n eggs in Carolina - haha- just amazing - it was for a season, but what a great season it must have been for this generation...

    Daniel Léo Simpson

    Composer

    San Francisco

  • just great!

  • Aaah... bless the days before Facebook and Twitter when people had talents and skills other than collecting "friends" and tweeting opinions.

  • i beg you pardon but who is the male solo singer?

  • @happelleppah His name is Tex Beneke..

  • @happelleppah Tex Beneke

  • Fantastic. Thanks for posting.

  • you never see black people dance like that anymore, what i would do to be able to be born in the 40's...

  • summary of all comments:

since i like old music, i feel special.

im proud that i like it, other people are not on the same level as me.

i relate with random people on youtube who like a song, that i really know nothing about, more than my friends who have a different musical taste.

  • no conoco ni vi en persona a genn miller nunc pero su musica la llevo en mi corazon desde mi infancia por mi padre y la adoro es mi miusic
