  • beautiful music.....and pretty voice

  • I first heard this song atleast 15years ago when i was a youngin. Never knew who it was by, just been getting into marillion and realised it's THIS song. I'm chuffed to bits, lethal song

  • Bloody hell im getting old just found some original posters, from back in the day.

Just going to check my birth certificate was i really there.

  • one of my fav songs

  • @cosmozver Well. I'm a 14 year old girl and I freaking love Marillion. You're not the only one haha. (:

  • This, like many of Marilions pieces of work is brilliant, but to keep comparing the two Fish & H is a little silly.

They have both been involved in fantastic pieces of work, simply to great artists who bring different dimensions with their ideas, mix that with the creativity of the others and you have something special, which for us fans is a bonus.

I have seen the band many many times and of course I have my favourite songs, but the fact is I have loved the work from both artists.

  • @Atomic867 well said, been a big fan since script, the album with its stringing start track, filled voids in my life when needed, a true masterpeice

  • Fucking hell. Devastating. Brilliant, just brilliant. So much emotion; Fish's lyrics ... wow. As usual the band plays to the sentiment of the words and feeling beautifully. Rothery - just incredible feeling and and playing. And we have to put up with constant Pop Idol and X Factor rubbish!!!

  • One of my all time favourite songs

  • thats some stong booze fish is drinking

  • With 14 years a fan of Marillion is - Love for all life.

  • Fish is Marillion!

  • With FISH? as in John Wesley's band Fish!?!??! Lovely song...

  • Красота!!

  • Marillion will never be the same without Fish

  • @GORFF987 Ridiculous -- as much as I love Fish and that era, Marillion with Hogarth have an amazing collection of work.....

  • @mpsandal Its up to you...

  • Somebody poured some other shit in his glass. Alcohol doesn't make you trip like that.

  • @ 0:38

    Harry Potter?

  • When this album came out I didn't understand it at first, and consequently I didn't enjoy it so much as their earlier ones.

I liked the songs but the deep understanding of the of the lyrics only came with time, life experience and the inevitable suffering.

    Sometimes crying feels so good...

  • My favourite Marillion tune. It's just amazing.

  • Listened to the Marillion mix on youtube for the first time listened to the song without Fish. with all respect I miss Fish. x

  • Brilliant - I miss the early stuff . Hogarth is ok but its just not the same. Have you seen The Granmarstonberries on Youtube? Steve Rothery and original bass player Diz Minnitt playing at a festival . Comfortably Numb is excellent!

  • soy un raton de azucar bajo la lluvia..

  • es un temazo...

  • Fish and Rothery; togheter always the best !! I miss you both !!

  • I was fortunate to see Marillion open for Rush @ Radio city music hall in like 81' or 82'.I feel real lucky now knowing what a rare opportunity it was to see Fish with the band.

  • FISH FISH FISH .... FICHTRE ....

  • A great band, with a quality song as usual. "high 5 for the upload!"

  • i love this song :-)))

  • nowt but luv! childhood relived everytime i here fish!!! bless ya. x

  • Lovely tune. Very moving. Great musicianship.

  • How did they go from this, too the utterly tedious shit they play now? Oh thats right - hogarth!

  • daddy took a raincheck

  • It'll never be remembered as well as "Kayleigh", but "Sugar Mice" is probably Marillion's strongest song. It didn't have a huge impact on the charts in 1987, but it has probably age best from the Fish-era catalogue - the one song where you don't automatically think the word "80s" after the word "great".

  • @edgroove, the Big Man is getting over his last marriage breaking down and is single last time I spoke to him. He is, however, in a pretty good place, doing gardening, writing, working on a possible new album, doing photography etc. The man is a survivor. @operator542, hope you get it sorted, it's not the answer, we all know that. Fish knows that. Take strength from him coming out of his various "problems". Be strong mate.

  • Men, we all feel like that some day when the trouble seems never end. But the one thing that can bring yourself some peace. This thing is the sureness of your inner-power. This could rise your soul from any bottomed place. And there is you just before your best. I , at least, have survived many life storms. Be proud, cultivate your kind attitudes.

  • Beautiful song-I think Fish was a lonely man and I hope he has a good relationship going :)

  • Amazing - this is actually the first time I've seen the video for this and Sugar Mice has been one of my all time favorites. Weird, it's kind of how I imagined it with the lyrics. Marillion is one of the most musically and lyrically talented bands to emerge since Pink Floyd. Shame they never made it in the USA - even though it's a "Sunday in Milwaukee in the rain"

  • played this at my mates funeral when we said goodbye- his fave song not a dry in the house.

Such a talented band - Met fish and he is very cool - so laid back and down to earth

  • what a great song - the last great with Fish

and maybe the last great for Marillion

    love it!

  • masterpiece

  • this has to be the best music video ever made!!!

  • I Love Marillion

  • SUPER! THIS WAS CLASS!

  • guys don't be so dark... try to hold on as much you can..i know this song could be really unbeareably for its mixture between tension and depression, is fantastic and can make you crazy, but try to believe in life.. you can go out of the blue, i hope yo'll listen my words, because this song till one year ago made me feel desperate and with suicide thoughts, but things improved, now my life is quite good, you have to let it roll into your soul!

    "happiness is the road" =)

    greetings from italy

  • I love this

  • Hi Legendary song & video I want to share a video I made with you Marillion fans ;-) In May I had the fortune of having a chat with Steve Rothery! we were chatting & he asked me about my songs & home made bedroom recording techniques, it ended up with Steve doing a video introduction to 1 of my songs, I made the video with a LOT of tributes to Marillion & thier legacy including the TV from Sugar Mice & Bar scene, please look at "The Rainbow Mandrills Opportunity video" on Youtube, Thanks Pete

  • Awesome! Just like I remember them.

  • segment starting at 3:46 - unbelieveably sad. Music and lyrics.

  • @CHHSE1986 13 years sober, hang in there you can do it.

  • @operator542 Thanks, brother. Just relapsed tonight after 23 days.... the pain of being away from my children, 800 miles away, is more than I can stand.... Go to AA meetings several times a day...

  • @CHHSE1986 One day at a time buddy.

  • OMG..... the only thing i can do listening to this song is crying... but it makes me feel good again..

  • @minione41 Don't cry... :) It's good to know that we were young once!!! :) Kind regards from Portugal.

  • @minione41 good for you. i listen this song, cry and never feel better...

  • Bella cancion!! alguien puede traducirla al español?? Marillion es una de mis bandas favoritas.

  • Shit hot song; what a guitar solo!!!

  • The solo edit kills me :(

  • @SomethingWild9608 Yes, they have editet out a part of the solo, so that i jump in my seat every time i hear this version.

  • grazie per tutte l'emozioni che mi avete dato.... a firenze nel 1988 ... che spettacolo di concerto.... M A R I L L I O N ..... THANKS.....

  • Kayleigh, Lavender, Incommunicado, Sugar Mice, Warm Wet Circles. All 5 of these songs should have found success on the U.S. Charts. Not #1 blockbuster hits or anything outlandish like that, but they were all top 40 material. He Knows, You Know should have at least reached the lower half of the Hot 100. Also, Misplaced Childhood and Clutiching At Straws were top 40 Billboard 200 material.

  • I love this guy, and this video, it is quite terrible and beautiful at the same time, ahead of its time in it's narrative awfulness, and honest and heartfelt, which means any cynical appraisal must be tempered with some empathy with a great Scottish poet and a top band...the moment at 2:08 when the band emerge from the bar is hilarious, magical and legendary....I don't know whether to laugh or cry so i should do both.

  • Thanks Marillion! This song is a part of the soundtrack to my life - as I'm sure it is for many others judging by the comments here!

  • Great song ... Guy singing the story is brutally honest

  • jy,wilt,alone,je,kids,back,je,vorige,leven,wat,deed,jy,dan,dat,je,geen,voogdy,hebt,met,je,vriendin,pull,and,pushing,like,you,did[do]to,me,ben,ik,een,klankbord,tegen,lonelyness,empty,feelings,i,won,t,do,that,only,be,for,that

  • MARRRRRRRillion:)

  • awesome track

  • awesome track

  • This song is so deep and close to my heart its almost impossible for me to listen to.

  • YO NUNCA CONOCI A MI PAPA...ESTA ME TOCA FUERTE.....QUE PASO QUIEN SABE .....

  • Nothing to add...These lyrics touch the deepest part of the heart...When I heard "Well the toughest thing that I ever did was talk to the kids on the phone..." I remember the sad moment I live actually, with my family so far from me...I can't hide my crying...Thnks FishMarillion!!!

  • So if you want my address, it's number one at the end of the bar, where I sit with the broken angels clutching at straws and nursing our scars.

    What a sentence!!

  • does exist a song that touches more than this one??

  • fantastic song, yes its a deep one,but does pull at the heart strings, shame fish is a hibs fa tut tut

  • its an awsome song!!!!!!!!!

  • A wonderful song. one of my favorites...all time!!!!

  • too bad the solo gets chopped in the video. The album cut is longer.

  • @chickenlampbrent Same with Kayleigh.

  • This song always hits me. If anybodys has been thru a divorce with kids and they move far away.I say a prayer for you, but always do your fatherly duty and be a father. I have experienced this, it is about your kids!!

  • that solo, I had forgotten all about this song. Oh wow man, the memories, the tears.

  • Through Her Eyes, DT, the same riff

  • Visit our channel: rock-prog band Gran Torino: our album is coming in 2011: grantorinoProg.

  • I think fish has had enough to drink at 2:31 :P

  • Oh Dear... Fish with barely any hair... xD

    I LOVE THIS SONG

  • Crying again.

  • not a common fact but a fact none the less is that fish wrote some of his best stuff either on drugs or when he was in rehab

  • FISH when he still could sing... now a days it is just sad....

  • @peterknicked have you heard some of his solo albums?????

  • @runrigtam ... Do you mean H? Oh yes I have heard Ice Cream genious and so on, and they suck big time in my opinion, and if you mean FISH. Of course I have, and they are of different caracter and some are great some are total shit. But that is only my humble opinion... I stand by that FISH i a shadow og himself live and all those years of smoking and abuse of drugs has scarred his voice for life. I am the first to say that it is a shame.... He used to be so good, but now a days.... just sad!

  • @peterknicked That's rock n'roll, man. He just forgot to die young and leave a pretty corpse. On a side note, his lyrics are as brilliant as ever, if not more so.

  • Cała moja młodość...

  • Thumbs up for Milwaukee!

  • saw them live fish was awesome

  • Marillion were just fucking awesome...

  • marillion without fish, never been marillion, I still say and think about it.

I can not listen to a recording of the order until marillion without fish.

fish without marillion, is not marillion. would be a dream come true if they came back to write together. and a global success. my favorite band with fish.

  • @motaarkhe It WOULDVE been a dream..but sadly his age and his abuse of his voice would make it a joke and an embarassment.I LOVE the Fish years, but it would soil the beauty of those songs to hear him sing them a full step down now and still struggle to reach the notes.

  • WOW

  • I can play solo... But without fish it isn't song...

  • GOS BLESS SCOTTLAND.

  • I always loved this song , one of many masterpieces by Marillion.

  • Been there....Awsome song n so true......

  • Heavy-duty!

  • Blame it on me, you can blame it on me

We're just sugar mice in the rain

'Cos I know what I feel, know what I want I know what I am!!!

    (I really LOVE this song)

  • Is Mark Kelly the barman ?

  • stupenda

  • thanks marillion for this song...is very important in my life

  • at 1:55 when the pretty girl turns into that beast, i would not like to meet her down a dark alley way

  • good this lar

  • Beautiful.

  • with words not to describe

the most beautiful music, the most beautiful g solos I have ever heard

  • fish brill singer song never gets old

  • I can't think of which place is worst - the army or Cleveland.

  • @66tull Cleveland.

  • This song brings back so many memories of Zaks Lounge Bar in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow. I spent a huge amount of time either drinking there or working there. I met some really special people there, too. Were we just sugarmice in the rain? perhaps......

  • This song got me through my break up in 86 i was in the army and she was in cleveland.

  • Script for a Jesters Tear is by far the best. Not one weak song. B'sides Themselves is also great.

  • adoro é uma pena que esta banda tenha acabado

  • Clutching at Straws must be one of the best albums of all time

  • i agree sadly though its not that well known.. you say marrillion, and if anyone even knows pf them, its kayleigh..

  • @llawnroc69dlt SO true

  • @llawnroc69dlt : could not agree more.

  • @llawnroc69dlt The last real Marillion album

  • @llawnroc69dlt Oh, it's a great album, but I think "Misplaced childhood" is much greater.

  • This came from their best album ever,"Clutching at straws". Sugar mice just dazzles with its vocals & piercing solo.

  • hey people are doomed they dont know lol

  • Even with someone else singing this song you just KNOW it was Fish that wrote it!!

  • 0:27 Looks like Kurt Russell... Oh and great song!

  • @tremolo73 good spot!! he's a dead ringer alrite!!

  • What a great song! After all these years, I can still never tire of listening to it.

  • man ur the best

  • Derek William Dick, you simply are a one of a kind.

  • first time i was listen to him.

    blaime it on me.

    second time............

i blame it to me ex,she's the one who makes me a alcoholic en lost on the sugar mice.

  • never fails --

  • ragna do you remember?

    did whe all have

forgotten the first fullmoon at 2000?

  • mon groupe favoris j'ai eu envie de faire de la musique grace a eux cliquer sur mon nom et laisser vos comm.sinon taper "alban laisse passer "

  • its always the fault of the governmment...

No one poured the booze down his neck Fucking looser.

Phil Collins would never have sung about this when he was lead singer.

  • @babybrutus ???

  • @babybrutus You make it sound like PC was at one time lead singer of Marillion. ;) Not sure what he'd have to do with this.

  • @babybrutus You seem to think this is Peter Gabriel. You are mistaken, though the two have been compared. This is far better.

  • My ex wife loved this song.....gotta think she's a medium, or a 12 !

  • its one of those songs bin there done it MY F.ING fault

  • Comment removed

  • Pity they cut short the solo, it's one of Rothery's best. Must be a "radio friendly" version

  • Fish has to kneel down to be the same size as the rest of the band.

  • WANNA HEAR SOMETHING REALLY REALLY DUMB??

22 PEOPLE SEARCHED FOR THIS VIDEO AND THUMBED IT DOWN

  • He caught the Scotsman genetic disease, he became a raging alcoholic. Dont worry though he recovered and hes doing fine.

  • Great memories. Fantastic group. What happened to Fish ?

  • Fish looks a lot like joe elliott of def leppard in this

  • Such a beautiful song. This is why I can't stop listening to this kinda music, Just music doesn't have that same feel these days that just touches your soul. Music has become nothing but a business now, and back then it was an art.

  • brilliant . my daddy took a rain check. fuck him .

  • awesome !! many memories

  • i love this its sad but good

  • When I am down, I listen to Marillion, when I am happy I listen to Marillion...

  • First time I heard this,I thought it was some 'lost' Genesis track- they sound so much alike.

  • @richintalent Jeez im getting so damn sick of people comparing them to the oh so bloody wonderful Genesis...

  • Both versions of this band have their merits. I never understand the division of thought as far as this goes.

Fish was brilliant. Saw him and them at the Marquee bidding war gigs.

That said, the new version is more than stunning too. In my mind.

    Just enjoy the music people.

  • One thing I don't miss about the 80's is rolled-up jack sleeves. Phew!

  • Love it!

  • Fish was amazing in marillion,I was not all that keen on the Steve Hogarth era, although I do like the song easter, I think that was Hogarths best ....personally.

  • Hey, thanks for posting this - what a beautiful song

  • Only one Marillion as far as I am concerned & that was the Fish era. DH is good & bands do move on but they seemed to have so much more when Fish was with them in my opinion.

  • This was is and always will be some of the greatest music ever created.....

  • siempre me gusto la era de fish..
