@LibertarianCatholic ...that is not what us "pro-life people say". Abortion hurts women, takes advantage of them in a time when they are very afraid. An unexpected pregnancy is a very, very frightening situation for the women, and we must do all we can to help her (physically and emotionally) AND the child, both of them are very important and deserve help.

You can't be Catholic and still be for legalized abortion, your position rejects the Catholic Church, and so you are in schism from them.

Lots of people want to adopt. Orphanages aren't horrible, child abusing places. A problem does exist with adoption law, in which there is way too much red tape for people to wade through in order to get someone legally adopted. If adoption law were simplified, this wouldn't be the case

Instead of promoting separation of mother and child and the destruction of an EXISTING FAMILY, why aren't you promoting services to keep these families together? Why trade the "empty arms" of the waiting families for the newly "empty arms" of the mother? In order for a family to be made by the "miracle" of adoption, a family must first be destroyed.

Catholic Family Services was the "family services agency" which counseled me ONLY about adoption and did NOT counsel me in any way about parenting my child OR the grief and loss that BOTH my son and I would experience due to our unnecessary separation. I was a naive young woman who's only mistake was believing that the Catholic Church had MY family's best interest at heart, rather than the prospective adoptive family's. The Catholic Church was instrumental in SEPARATING my family.

What I can tell you as a fact, is that the Catholic Church obviously recommends keeping families together. What happens so many times, is, that expecting mothers come into clinics wanting abortions -- that is when counselors try to encourage them to not abort their babies, offering moral options, which include adoption. There is no Catholic literature promoting what you experienced.

What about the experiences of single women who were pregnant in the 60's, 70's and early 80's? The Catholic Church was one of the leaders in counseling the womens' parents to force adoption upon their daughters. How about unwed mother's homes? Many were RUN by the Catholic Church. Forced adoption was common and the social norm. This Era is known as the Baby Snatch Era. My experience was COMMON. Misleading advertising STILL promotes relinquishment without addressing the consequent lifelong pain.

Adoption is NOT the alternative to abortion. Abortion is a decision to stop a pregnancy. Adoption is a decision not to parent. When a woman decides to continue her pregnancy, she must THEN decide whether she is able to parent. Infant adoption is a multi-billion dollar industry which sells babies as commodities to waiting couples waving a checkbook and discards the mother. Mothers are left to deal with the empty arms and the never-ending grief, loss and pain inherent in losing a child.
