  • THANK YOU!!!!

  • @Catwink41

You are very welcome, and thank the Misty Miss Christy.

  • what a voice!..listen to her with Stan Kenton.match made in heaven..+ his 'wall of sound' is unmatched..

  • @anziotiamo

No disagreement here! Her recording with him at the piano is remarkable, too.

  • Thanks to satellite radio, I heard this recently for the first time. Why is she not better known? Such a beautiful and sultry voice. She has really made an impression on me.

Thank you for the comment. The Misty Miss Christy, as she was known then, was BIG back in the late 40's and the fifties among jazz lovers and Stan Kenton's "modern" jazz, with whom she sang. Great girl singers back then and she was tops. (I think.)

  • This is about the best thing I have ever heard from her.

  • The divine June - this is probably my favourite by her - I have 15 of her albums on CD - my Dad has some on original vinyl. If you want to really 'get' her work, buy 'Something Cool' on CD, and listen to the Mono version on the disc, it has an unbelievable warmth and beauty and truth. Enjoy.

  • Very nice arrangement. The bass and strings give a great breadth to the piece, overlaid by a beautiful voice. Mark Murphy has a nice version too.

  • It is out on CD. I bought mine about ten years ago after years of listening to my parent's vinyl copy.

  • This is really nice! Thanks for posting.

  • I cannot find this beautiful number on any of June Christie's LP's. Can anyone help ?

  • @beebtom This is from an old Hi Fi album, "June Christy Gone for the Day" I can't find a date on it but it is a Capitol Records recording. Has some great stuff on it. Hope you can find it.

Many thanks for your help. I'm in UK and I recall when this album originally came out there was a serious recording fault on the `Lazy Afternoon' track. Hence the number was never played by the BBC and I think the (UK) version of the album was withdrawn. I'm hoping the US version is still available somewhere.

  • @ceb2633 Such a fantastic, stylish and romantic album!!

  • @ceb2633 June's Christy's Gone for the day is my all time favourite album by her! Her version of Lazy Afternoon is very haunting and other-worldly whereas Barbra Streisand's version is so smooth like silk and it's beautiful and poetic. June Christy is the best when she sings slow ballad like this. There is another song which she sings in this same album written by Andre Previn! The arrangments are so lush and sumptuous that I've never got tired of listening to this album. Thanks for sharing.

  • Everybody loves this song.

I've been lovin' it since I was a kid. You should hear Marlene Detrich (sp) do it .

I went to amazon, and kinda lost interest after 250 versions.

Everybody loves to play this song, even Cecil Taylor.

  • lovely ... but the song belongs to shirley horn ... she does it slower, much slower ...

  • She is so great ! Her phrasing is as good as Sinatra's. I listened to her in the '50's + '60's more often then now. I should get back to that !

  • I certainly agree, grenadian. She set the standard for many. C.

  • she is great but I prefer the original version you hear in musical - before the words "It's a lazy afternoon"..there is a haunting intro performed in the musical. A lot of versions haven't got this intro.

  • Is there a complete version anywhere on youtube? Really like to hear it....Thank you.

  • what musical is this song from ? I'd love to find out more about it.
