When Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs recorded the tribute album of Carter Family songs on which Maybelle plays autoharp, Earl was having a problem getting the flow on the break and Maybelle came in and showed him how it was done. Fortunately someone had the tape going. It was Maybelle playing the break on this song when it was releassed. If you have the recording, notice that the autoharp isn't heard in the break. Earl played the break on the Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs show with Maybelle.
Holy Cow! I thought Flatt & Scruggs invented the picking on this tune. I didn't even know Mother Maybelle did it first. What is the origin of the song?

This is one of my favorite Carter Family songs! Great singing combined with simple yet interesting instrumental accompaniment=brilliance!

Maybelle taught the picking to Earl Scruggs much later. You can see them together in another video. Everything comes from the Carter family.
