  • Great_

  • i was born in '96 and i prefer this to auto-tuned chart-music-artists...

  • 2:08 looks like something you would see in a cartoon XD

  • @driverjackboy im 15 and i couldn't agree more

  • This was before white people tried weed!

  • I love this song. I went up to some friends and said,"Gimme some skin my friend!" All they did was laugh thinking I was saying something dirty....

    Curses!

  • It spins me because I love all three of them, but LaVerne is so different looking from Maxene and Patty. You can definitely see the resemblance between Patty and Maxene. I always thought that was interesting. I know. Who cares, Kat, WHO FREAKING CARES. I do ! I'm obsessed. I love them. XD

  • @katharynking LaVerne resembles their father, who was Greek, and Patty and Maxene resemble their mother, who was of Norwegian descent.

  • @katharynking join the club!

  • I was born in the wrong time!

  • I'm 22 and I adore old jazz, big band and swing. I did a lot of these songs for various talent shows and such. I also sing Peggy Lee at karaoke everytime and it's very popular. This is my absolute favourite genre of music, hands down. Thank you to this wonderful generation for carrying it on to me. <3

  • A touch racist?

  • @coled84 Nope. I'd call this an hommage. ;)

  • @griffonsa You're an ass

  • 'MERICA!!!!!!!

  • This is real music!!!

  • Dream On brought me here. ^__^

  • @BCoriginal1 Which epsiose and season? That show is hilarious!

  • My Grandparents Grew up to this, and now passed it down to me, and to be honest i think that the andrews sisters are some fine vocalists.

  • 7 people dont have skin.

  • the five ppl who dint like this had German blood in them lol

  • @griffonsa just so you know i don't like your style

  • Such a nice time

  • The Andrews Sisters could really dance! It's a shame they didn't get to showcase that talent more in the movies.

  • OH I LOVE THIS!! Thanks for posting! I'm a singer/musical theater person.

  • im proud to say that im also in love with their music, voices, and them in general, im 16 and i love all the older music as far back as the 1920's and thirtes. Another musician i like is Glenn Miller.

  • @TheUSMCDevilPup Checked out Annette Hanshaw yet?

  • That's talent, baby!

  • @driverjackboy, I keep hearing young people say how they don't like the crappy "music" of their own generation and seeing half naked girls that look like they were hit in the face with a tackle box singing on TV. Why don't you seek out others who have those same values and associate, resurrect and reclaim your own society with those your age. It's your world now. Make it whatever you want. When you do, and you have dances and parties, gang up and beat the crap out of drug dealers that show up!

  • @vistalitedrumnut a bit rich that. Their society had the mafia. Same shit, different uniforms....... @saentific; yeah, our older generation saved the world from evil and destruction but hang on a minute; they were the same generation who led it to near evil and destruction. The turth is that our boys were in a fight or flight situation saving themselves from destruction. Making it a generational issue is plain wrong.

  • @MadAndyBeckman You're one of the few people who actually has a grasp on history.

  • @vistalitedrumnut Itd happily show up to a late 30s-early 50s party!

  • @driverjackboy so, u like the andrews sis'? so do i. im also related 2 them

  • Now this is real dancing. Shame I don't see more of this around.

  • lol like they do it in harlem

  • wut movie is this from ?

  • I remeber seeing this on TV a long time ago... Doesn't Bud actually say "slyp me some skin" after this performance? The Andrews Sisters were definitely the Supremes of the previous generation... :-)

  • check out iggy pops version

  • these songs by the andrews sisters are orsem and im only 13 please post more vids

  • I'l take the Andrew sisters over most of the singers that we have today they were raw talent where today they have "voice fixing machines"

  • 5 people are Justin Bieber fans.

  • Oh, how crazy sick would a Andrew Sisters/Eminem mash up be? Andrew sisters was mashed with Christina Augilera and it's rockin'. Any music editors, producers or artist out there. Next big idea before this world ends: Eminem and Christina Augilera bury the hatches and record something with Andrew sisters sample. That'd have the kids going crazy. I'd say epic on every level. Em squashed the beef with his mom. He's grown, people move on.

  • "Smack it, whack it, let your hand rotate...show it, blow it...give me some skin..."

Call me a a perv, but I can't help but think this song is more than just about slapping someone five, especially when sung by three girls.

  • Oh man I thought "Gimme Some Skin" come out in the 70's since it was frequently used as a 70's term...Wow History

  • This is so fucking weird...

  • i would have given the lead andrews sister some skin for sure

  • I LOVE THESE GIRLS!!!

  • @AudiGal09 me too. it's ashame that the girls only made three appearances w/ A & C. all were hits & fun to watch. also i wished the boys sang & danced together w/ the girls. damn. the 1940's.

  • when i first saw this, i was stoned... and laughed my ass off. wasnt sure if it was a joke or intentionally funny. great singers... but... what do 3 white chicks of old school swing know about the "brothers in harlem"? especially in a time where black musicians gave their music to white performers. but they got some soul, catchy, they got some swing. good tune.

  • @ChayDawg64 You'd be surprised how much white girls knew about black brothers back then. Their hubbies never knew. Lmfao at people who think the 50s was an innocent time.

  • @iiwatcher lololol =X ♫gimme some skin, my friend♫

  • @ChayDawg64 Heh heh...indeed.

  • @iiwatcher i know right haha

  • 5 People didn't get some skin.

  • Oh the wonderful innocence of the past coming to fruition in our perverted minds ;)

  • Smack it, whack it, let your hand rotate. Show it, blow it, put it in your pocket til a future date..... *_*

  • 5 stars for this one! I love how Patty will break away from her sisters to emphasize something they are singing about. It's like watching a college professor in action. She does this in several Andrews Sisters movie music performances & I cherish them all. Thank you for sharing this treasure.

  • @1nightstorm Wasn't she great! Lordy...That's long before my time. But I cherish, like you, the innonece and long forgotton talent of the ol' days. War+years music and pre+BeBop Jazz I absolutely adore.

  • Really love Patty: Fresh, talented and funny. When she sings or dances alone, she is really great. The music of the Andrews Sisters will live for ever in our hearts. I am 42 and enjoy this kind of music very much.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • love bud and estello

  • See, all old steps become new again. The dance she does @2:07 issthe same steps the kids were doing in all the videos in the 80's and 90's. Just watch a Bobby Brown or heavy D video.

  • Patty reminds me of Bette Midler, they have the same facial actions, she is hilarious! LOL! LOVE HER! and I love her dacing at 2:10 minutes! ITS GREAT! sister can really MOVE! Go head, miss patty! HA HA!

  • In the 50s we used to say, "Skin me, man." Now I know where that came from: Harlam in the 40s.

  • I bet Patty is a hoot! She seems so funny and if nothing else she's one hell of an actress

  • I grew up seeing these talented ladies on Abbot & Costello, I loved every minute of it! I might be 44, but my heart lies with the older generation that saved the world from evil and destruction. Let's hope the young people step up if that same situation happens again.

  • @FordNut66 We have been, in our own special 21st Century way. Never fear. :-)

  • @FordNut66 1941, from the movie "In the Navy" starring Abbot & Costello. They also sang, in the movie: "Starlight, Starbright" with Dick Powell; "We're Off to See the World"; "We're in the Navy"; "Hula-Ba-Luau".

  • @FordNut66

We have your back. Ready to step in when necessary.

  • @FordNut66 I wouldn't count on it. Over and out, from a 23 year old who gave up on his generation long time ago.

  • @FordNut66 Some of us young folk in this twisted generation still uphold the traditions of old.

  • @FordNut66 im a 15 yr old boy and i love the andrews sisters

  • @FordNut66 - I totally agree with everything you say Sir. I am 46 and love the values and talent of yesteryear.

  • @FordNut66

Aren't they great ? Kinda sexy, too (love the Forties hairstyles) - in a homely sort of way.

    Everyone LOVED America then.

    So, what happened ?

  • @marvinc999 The Japs and Germans didn't like the Americans then!

  • @scampben

They certainly didn't HATE 'America' (one or two even emigrated there, as I recall - before WW2).

The point is: today, (practically) EVERYONE hates the US - even its reluctant 'allies'.

And when they hear the word 'America', the Andrews Sisters is the LAST thing they think of, believe me.

Wonder why THAT could be ?

Acting like the very Nazis (Uncle Sam Uber Alles) 'we' fought against 65 years ago could be PART of it, I suppose.

    Very, very sad...............................

  • @marvinc999 What you said is very true, indeed. I'm a Romanian myself, and my country isn't exactly rich, 2nd world tends to do that to you.

I'm not a very big fan of modern culture (especially the music, but not only), and, well, I find it quite disgusting, especially considering it spread all over the world. However, that being said, I absolutely love pre-60s American culture (again, especially the music, but not only). Ah, it sometimes feel as if I was born in the wrong year, heh.

    Cheers!

  • @tudosiealex A small correction. Of course, by modern culture I mean modern American culture, which is, after all, pretty much the universal culture nowadays.

  • @FordNut66 I'm 17 and I love every minute of "Older" music. You don't have to be a dinosaur to know what quality is. " They just don't make things like they used to."

  • @Dekuinthelake You know that's not what he implied, right?

  • @tudosiealex Yeah, but why does it mater any way? I'm not mimicing him, I'm adding onto his wisdom. Plus, his " Save the World from Evil and Destruction" thing reminds me that people used to know what quality is. Quality in life, how they treated each other, and music for sure.

  • P.S. Shame on whoever disliked this....must be out of your mind !! I LOVE IT !

  • I'm hep to the jive at a fresh-faced 21 years old. Love these lovely ladies...they inspire me to no end, there are no words to describe. I sing their songs on a daily basis. Long live The Andrews Sisters !!

  • Seems the year's just blew by and now I'm old. Most every body is dead now. Bing, Jimmy Durante, Martha ray, George and Gracie, Mae West, W C Fields, and on and on. The was the greatest time to be alive, but all things do have an ending. Thank God for the means to perserve the memories.

  • i love the dance move she does at 2:11

  • im tottally obssed with the andrews sisters now....I asked for there CD for christmas!

  • @supernerdyful I did too and now at work I'm singing and kind of dancing around to this song.

  • 5 people didn't get their hands shaken like they did in Harlem. :c

  • @saentific mke that 7 :/

  • While Patty was the liveliest, most technical dancer of the three, LaVerne moved the most naturally. This 1941 number, along with "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" from their previous film with Bud & Lou the same year, is the best executed performance that the girls ever committed to film, & the costumes here really accentuated their great figures & pretty legs. They launched the vocal group into movement on screen & have influenced dozens of artists & groups over the past 60 years. They were great!

  • "Enroute to-"

    "Ha-wa-ya?"

"I'm fine, thanks, how are you?"

  • In the 80s, Dick Cavett had a facinating interview with Maxine (the one on the left.) I've been trying to find it here.

  • Nice.

  • Wow they can sing!!

  • Fantastic.

  • LAVERNE WAS A VERY GOOD DANCER.

  • I've noticed it also, gooboo - I never saw a single video of the Andrews Sisters in which LaVerne dances that well - better than Patty, in addition. I really would like to know why it didn't happen more often, 'cause she was great in this one.

  • @gooboo1000 and graceful too...

  • Thanks, 1musiclad! I will check them out...

  • This is becoming my favorite Andews Sisters song. I find myself singing the lyrics at odd times of the day...I would like to find it on CD but I don't think it was released outside of this motion picture.

  • @tux49 - It was released outside of this movie. It's on these albums:

    Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy

    Andrews Sisters: My Greatest Songs

Andrews Sisters' Rum and Coca Cola

  • You know if you first listen to this song, it sounds VERY wrong... but now I got my nieces, who are only 5 years old, addicted to this song. We like to do the handshake.

    LOL @dionreedssamurai

  • Comment removed

  • LOL. Now days..the meanings in this song. ><

I love the Andrew Sisters. :D

  • I heard a gay guy singing this at a circumcsizion.

  • I reckon the Andrews Sisters could even out-high-five the Todd

  • wow, patty was adorable.

  • Wow when i first heard it i thought they were talking about something else.....lol. Awesome song either way

  • GIMMEE SOME SKIN.......where's iggy?

  • Like they do it in Harlem BABY! :D

  • You can see the heavy wartime influence in the clothing--shorter skirts, less fabric, masculine shoulder-accented silhouette, and the navy-esque collars. Love it!

Great song, too, and what crowd pleasers those girls were! Great showmanship!

  • what movie is this from? I forget!

  • Woulda been better if they had some blacks, but what the hay.

  • this should be in fallout new vegas

  • this is my first time hearing of these ladies and they are bad!!! this is music

  • It's so awesome I may cry.

  • Got my friend hooked on this song :)... The Andrews Sisters are THAT GOOD! I figured out how to dance that dance Patty did at 2:09 to 2:13...

  • Maxene (on the left) was surely the prettiest of the A Sisters, and LaVerne (on the right) had (if I my put it this way) the smokingest rack; but is there anyone watching this who is not absolutely enthralled by Patty (in the middle)? Patty shows us that personality / charisma TRUMPS those other things. I love ALL the A Sisters, but Patty is da BOMB!

  • @joeypolanski

    Patty's still kicking.

  • A musical blast from the past for all my fellow retrostylish-golden-age-ists who wish they could time travel back to the good old days and take a lover with them.

    Enjoy!

  • manthere so awkward and odd, but its a good, showy, funny thing haha =)

  • Does anybody know what they sang in the movie "Hollywood Canteen"? Are they sure their talking about giving a hi-5? Haha, just kidding. Gosh I just love them. I agree with Erazzsixty, Patty should deserve a Kennedy Center Honor.

  • @beyoncetyratina - Don't Fence Me In, Hollywood Canteen and Corns For My Country were their songs from that movie. :)

Btw Patty is the most underrated singer/entertainer of the 20th century, and unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if it remained that way.

  • @the1musiclad

Really? Well... I'll find out. "Hollywood Canteen" is going to show on TCM!! YESS!! Thank you very much!!!!

  • natural moves of perfect comedian

  • wish my sisters were as cool

  • @Eclecticluu AGREED !!

  • Patty is hilarious!

  • patty was a cutie

  • great Preformance!!!!! I love the way how Patty dance on the 2:10 min

  • let's see Lady Gaga do this ...

Pretty good musical number considering Universal didn't have the money like MGM , etc..

  • Immense- This is one of my fave Andrews Sisters songs. I don't know when this was recorded or released or whatever but I'm betting it was released a good 40 years before I was born being born in 87. Makes me 23 now and I'm a huge massive fan!

  • @loveikeaful - 1942. A good 49 years before I was born. It might not be "cool" to like them but I just don't care.

  • Timeless. It is so interesting to read the blogs from today's young people who say "I love rock, or rap or metal, but this is just so great." That's what timeless is about. This sturff appeals to any generation. It was a trying time for the U. S. of A ---WWII--- but it was deathless entertainment that sustained the greatest warriors the world has ever known.---the brave soldiers of WWII. And those Andrew Sisters did as much to win that war as anything or anybody.

  • @11pouncey11 I'm fourteen and I love all the oldies too. <3

  • There are sooo good I love the music of the andrew sisters they FANTASTIC

  • Ol' girl gets down at about the 2:09 mark. That is fucking awesome.

  • 2:09 SO COOL these dance moves soo coool

  • 2:08 First C-walk ever!

  • what is the name of that movie please?

  • @MaraMJackson It's called "In The Navy" by Abbott and Costello.

  • @PsycadelicShack thanks! ;)

  • @MaraMJackson Abbott and Castello In the Navy

  • yea!!! lovedd x

  • I love this! Just try watching this video without smiling. Check out Maxene's double take at Patty's dance at 2:08. Gotta love the sisters!

  • patty was so natural i love her facial expressions.

  • Love the Andrews Sisters

  • cute :)

  • Can th A Sisters sing a song that DOESNT get stuck in your head?

    Priceless!

  • funny how when the band broke some of them couldn't clap in time! Nice vid!

  • tob42baritone, Patti Adrews once said, that the first time that they recorded with Bing Crosby she couldn' t even look him in the eye, but after doing one song with him, every thing just flowed. Turned into a really great recording session after that.

  • Who knew high-fives could be so WILD?! Haha ;)

  • @hooloopa ikr.....if that was my hand, i would be crying....esepcially since i have sensitive skin :(

  • nothing according to my age but damn that party got off the hook

  • Oh My God Patty is so hot! I can't beleive i know someone who looks like her love this vid

  • @limetria Maxine is the smokin' hot one...hubba hubba!

  • Man Alive I'm Hep to the Jive, Swing it Andrews Sisters with the Big Band Sound the Lives Forever!!! I'm glad I'm a 1940's born kid!! Long Live SWING!!!

  • @BJSTV

You may very well be hep to the jive, but are you hip to the groove, Daddy-o? Are you even now rockin' that zoot suit like all the swingin' hep cats?

  • One of my absolute favorite Abbott and Costello movies, In the Navy!

I've known all of the words to every song that the Andrews Sisters sang in all the A&C movies since I was about 8 years old! They were just fantastic!!!

  • why do i get the feelin that i'm the only youngin in here that realized that was a movie with abbott and costello. what a great combo.

  • I love The Andrews sisters. I'm glad they're still very popular.

  • lol, I didn't know the high five was that old!

  • I love the tap dancing!!! Can't beat the classics :)

  • @11pouncey11 haha i'm 16 and love them/oldies too =]

  • Now I know where rocknroll took his begining. This is super clear swing ! And I love this super fine blonde leader / my wife has two sisters, but she isnt blond /.

  • everytime i hear a diffrent Andrews sisters song, im amazed by their talent!! good job!!!!!!! :D

  • Comment removed

  • i agree

  • FANTASTIC!
