Paul's explanation is *Platonic* which means that the real or the perfect is heavenly and the shadow is earthly. So, to Paul's mind Jesus *is a man*, just not a man derived from dirt like Adam.

@VeridicusX I agree. Paul's "man" is one of mere likeness as he explicitly tells us in not one, but TWO different passages. Jesus took on the "likeness" of sinful flesh. Likeness there means the morphological shape or image of mankind (he looked like a human). Lots of vestigal remnants in the NT and some are simply amazing when you read them for what they actually say. thanks!

@TruthSurge It's evident from 1 John 4:1-3 that what you've presented is broadly correct. The writer wouldn't have felt the need for a rebuttal if this wasn't a prevalent belief at the time.
