I live in playa del carmen for 10 ten years till now, and police all the time take drunk people to jail, when they just fall sleep on the street or just being annoying, im not a police fan, but they really care about do a peaceful place to stay, dont hesitate to spend your holiday here, there is good prices in 5 stars hotels that you wont believe it, cheers
I think the comment about the Police might be helpful to those that have no idea of what is going on in Mexico. Some people (not me) see the news about the drug violence and think it is nation wide. The news and media do not do Mexico justice. I feel much more in danger in my own hometown.

You feel safe in Playa because of a "strong police presence"? I feel safe in Playa because it's a very safe town with very little crime. I don't even notice the police. You make it sound like it would not be safe if it weren't for the police.

We were there in July and had a nice visit.
We are looking into going back for a longer stay.
