Hey World Music Supply, with videos like this, the only world you could be selling amps to are ants. no one can hear this amp and the tones you get suck. lose the mic headset please and play some guitar. as frank zappa would say, shut and play yer guitar.
@FlesjesMetWater Learn history, it was originally built for bass but sounded better for guitars, you balded headed scaly wag with a big ass pussy with teeth fucktard butt monkey..... By the way I gave your mom a Brazilian Flapjack. Look it up on Urban dictionary.
@mattownsu95 Wow, you sound SOOOO cool saying that. For the record, in my opinion it sounds equally as good on bass or guitar. Yes, the originals, not these. These use guitar speakers that would crap out under a bass.
@FlesjesMetWater The original bassman were very popular with guitarists because of the distortion characteristics. The bassman has a warm distorion that comes in on the peak signal producing the classic elusive 60s sound. This was before fuzz, distortion and overdrives were invented.
Does somebody have a demo of this amp played with bass???? I just want to hear what it sounds like with bass because it's originally designed for bass.
you and every single human that does the same job like you is extremely lucky!!im dying to do a job like that, even if i dont get paid!!you are soooo lucky! nice demo btw :)
I've saved for two years for the ideal amp for goodtonejazz, fusion, or blues with a good clean sound with my american deluxe stratocaster. With a budget of $ 1400 I thought of a fender supersonic 60W, a 65 twin reverb or a reissue bassman 59. It is impossible for me to try the amp before buying it, so I have a chance and buy it without hearing it before. Which of these three amps do you recommend? or what other option for the sound I seek you recommend? Thanks, and sorry for my english
God I don't think he's THAT bad...he's progressions and riffs are fairly repetitive but he's no where in the same ball park as the dude who SHOWS you the instructions of every single stomp box ever reviewed ..god damn painful.
FYI to all people watchin this video, the microphone is in about the worst place to do a demo of an amp... this amp sounds much more bad ass than this recording lets you hear... not knocking this dude's playing, just knocking the recording technique... i play through one of these monsters everytime i go to my local music store, look up Creedence Clearwater Revival, John Lee Hooker, and Stevie Ray Vaughn to get a better idea of what this amp CAN sound like
bunch of tards here. Give the guy a break, he is a good player. He is a bit mechanical, sure, but he's doing a demo not playing a gig. He has a boss, who probably told him to play some short blues licks and get the video over with so that he can move onto the next one. If you were told to play all day, cover certain settings on the amp, and make it quick, you all would bust out with plenty of tepid crap. If this were a video of a gig your criticism might be warranted. But it's not.
People do rank on this guy at ton, but why does he play the same lead lines over and over. He needs to play some strummed chords and/or some actual song riffs. I don't know what the amps sound like in actual practice because I don't just play single notes blues pentatonic leads all day every day. Play some freaking songs or something that remotely resembles a song!
@SiKxBlAzEr i have this same amp. next to the on/off switch its a standby/on switch. When i turn the amp on first i turn the on/off switch to the on position and let the tubes warm up. When im ready to play i'll switch the standby/on switch into the on position....cheers
@chevelle7873 i appreciate the help but im talking about a small knob next to the switch it looks like it has numbers engraved in the face of the amp, i dont even know if it does anything i havent heard anyone talk about it
Stop turning the tone knob down every time you turn on the bridge pickup. You don't have to always find a way to roll off the highs. I get so sick and tired of people doing demos like this. You can't hear what the amp sounds like the way 90% of all rock tones are recorded. BRIDGE PICKUP WITH THE TONE KNOB ON 10. Turn on the radio and you'll be hard-pressed to find that muddy tone.
@TenFourMusicGroup It all depends on how they are wired, takes like 15 minutes to custom wire a strat. Mine came stock with a bridge tone and a neck tone.
the mic is too close to have some nice room about the tone. It sounds like there's too much compression also. Distorted sound is pretty much shit, I think. it's muddy en harsh.
Jason Spencer is an excellent reviewer. I don't understand these commenters who don't appreciate his straight forward, informative, humble approach to demonstrating amplifiers.
It's hard to believe that Leo had Bass players in mind when he built this. I have actually played guitar through many bass amps, tube and solid state, and some hybrids, the speakers have a nice punch, especially the 15" drivers with the huge ceramic magnets. Low mids are a bit scooped for lead guitar use, but it makes a nice "airy" tone for rhythm guitar. This on the other hand, just sounds like a 4x10 guitar amp. Bassist hated it because it had no headroom with the output of bass pickups.
Stop your complaining, I think he covered the Bassman demo quite well. If he left them jumper blending out, then you's have a companint. But he did show it. This is one of the best amps for the price you can buy. After all, it inspired Jim Marshall to start some amp company after his namesake. Maybe some of you heard of it?
No one disputes the beauty of this amp, it is wonderful, but this guy manages to pull the muddiest sounds out of any amp, guitar, pedal, etc. I used one of these to try my squier std tele at the recommendation of the store owner (he knew I have a JTM copy & a solid pine 4x10 as my recording rig, this was the closest) and it sounded way better than it does in this video. He really does make every piece of gear he demos sound like crap. His playing has no soul. It's just mechanical and dull.
@logen99999 It's only the truth. He seems to have the too-many-lessons syndrome. He was a "prodigy", and his parents forced him to play guitar when all he wanted was to be a computer geek. He plays his guitar like it's a computer game. Every fretted note is like a key being pushed, every pick stroke is a mouse-click.
Yes, he works for a huge website, and what do I do? I work something called a job. I also play music, but not as a walking billboard for products or online stores, and not on youtube. My recording is done with an 8-track digital "workstation", not a computer, and if I ever have enough money to (in addition to supporting myself and my girlfriend and our cat, dogs, and rats, and my mother) buy a bunch of boutique gear, AND still have enough left over for a camera with good audio, then maybe ...
......then maybe I will demo some of it on youtube, if I feel like it should be done. My "demos" are all in the form of recorded songs, and I will hapilly send you some MP3s if you want (I need an email address) and you can criticize me all you want. That whole "if you aren't spending all your time posting demos, you can't be critical of anyone else's" mentality is bullshit. Whether I'm a demo guy or not, this guy sucks. Of course that IS my opinion, but a strong one. And no, I'm not BB King.
And by the way, I didn't say HE has no soul, I watched this video and others of him, and stated that HIS PLAYING has no soul. Listen to it. And watch him, he looks like he just wants it to be over. The guitar is just a weight around his neck. It isn't lack of soul in HIM, then he would be a politician or a banker. But he just reluctantly goes through the motions of plucking notes with one hand, fretting them with the other, getting it over with. He doesn't enjoy this, why should I?
Jesus God Almighty, another shitty demo from World Music Supply. If I were the Fender rep for them I'd be PISSED because they make all their amps sound like shit in all their demos.
y d hell r u so scared of cranking it up a lil?.. a lion wont jump out of the amp if u crank it up more.. u guys could use a livelier guitarist to review ur products man, half the time u cant make out all it features cos this guy is scared of them
Crank it up, crank it down, tweak & turn the controls anyway you want to, I'd like to hear that amp & that ax in all kind of settings, and you don't need to tell me how it's set, I'll figure it out if I like what I hear and decide to buy it!
Hey, I'm not going to critique this guys playing, that's not the issue and I don't
need SRV playing just to hear what the amp can do.
the overtones that every note has. He's saying that the high overtones are more prevelant on the Bright channel. If you pluck an open E, then play a natural harmonic on the 12th fret you'll hear two audible overtones: the overtone from the 12th fret, and the one from the 5th, and depending on how well your guitar is made you might even hear one from about fret 2 1/2. Every note has an infinite number of overtones, but most are inaudible. Those tones all played when you were hitting open E.
If that, 2 o clock, shakes your windows, I suggest you replace your windows.
I have a Bassman '59 LTD, I'm plugged into the bright channel- volume at 11, bridged with the normal channel- volume at 3,5. Haven't blown out any windows yet, and it sounds amazing. Cleans up well with the use of the guitarvolume.
What I mean is, if you're going to demo the amp that Jim Marshall based all his work on, you might as well show people why. It picks up at the end of the demo, but by then....yawn!
aww too bad it doesnt sound much like an original 59 :(

y d hell r u so scared of cranking it up a lil?.. a lion wont jump out of the amp if u crank it up more.. u guys could use a livelier guitarist to review ur products man, half the time u cant make out all it features cos this guy is scared of them
toshanjames 2 years ago 4
Crank it up, crank it down, tweak & turn the controls anyway you want to, I'd like to hear that amp & that ax in all kind of settings, and you don't need to tell me how it's set, I'll figure it out if I like what I hear and decide to buy it!
Hey, I'm not going to critique this guys playing, that's not the issue and I don't
need SRV playing just to hear what the amp can do.
Some of the commenters need to back off!

what does harmonic means?
realjuvelive 2 years ago
the overtones that every note has. Those tones all played when you were hitting open E.

great sound.. this and marshall jtm (early version) are my favorites. no wonder they are almost identical in design

The worst review ever made!!! This amp doesn't sound nice presented in this way....on my opinion.
Why not to choose a good guitarist for this? I can't fogure it out....

come on, when my deluxe is cranked - it's cranked. played through this bassman - sounds so much better than in this video...

Could they seriously find no one else in the whole studio? Very unfortunate representation of such a revered classic..

is this point to point wiring?
superbeavo 2 years ago
It's not. I have had mine for six years and I don't ever have problems with it. And in my opinion, it sounds a lot like a vintage Bassman.
This guy isn't running it right, though. It sounds much better and more rockin' than this in real life.

IMO not a good demo. PLAY IT LOUD, FOR GOD SAKE!!!!!
IHIKML 2 years ago 3
The volume was at 2 o clock. that will easily shake your windows. he just had his guitars volume down to keep it clean.
ruffles272 2 years ago
If that, 2 o clock, shakes your windows, I suggest you replace your windows.
I have a Bassman '59 LTD, I'm plugged into the bright channel- volume at 11, bridged with the normal channel- volume at 3,5. Haven't blown out any windows yet, and it sounds amazing. Cleans up well with the use of the guitarvolume.
What I mean is, if you're going to demo the amp that Jim Marshall based all his work on, you might as well show people why. It picks up at the end of the demo, but by then....yawn!

I'm getting the FBM-1 for boss effect pedal it simulate the bass man sound. You know it sound just like it and it's a lot cheaper.

K9750AT 2 years ago 2
For country, you should get
1. Fender telecaster or stratocaster (your choice)
2. Fender 63 spring reverb
3. Fender 59 bassman

Why would you say: "2 o'clock" if they're are numbers on the dials. You usually use "o'clock" for pedals, because there are no numbers...
