  • Fantastica interpretazione... Johnny WInter un vero Bluesman !

  • Comment removed

  • muddy waters knew johnny was the real deal. enough said.

  • Feels good man.

  • This is kick ass electric blues at it's best !

  • Yes true !

  • This man is one of the best guitarists period! I think Jimi Hendrix would say the same thing! Of course, if Jimi 's life wasn't controlled by drugs, one can only imagine where Jim Hendrix would have taken guitar playing to! Peace and Love, BobbyK

  • @bobby7771117 jimi and johnny have jammed together. their mutual respect for eachother's playing held them back from really letting loose, though; according to an interview i read with johnny.

  • Johny is great on guitar for this cut, but who backed him up? what a band of no talent slackers! An Johny never was much of a vocalist.

  • @Xychk What you on about? Johnny is a great singer, just listen to Be Careful With a Fool live in Denmark!

  • Just ask roy Buchanon

Timeless song The middle eight are Top ten shit

  • Thanks xkecoupe! This is great!!

  • shut up, dummy! your brain's too thin to know anything!

  • shut up, dummy!

  • johnnys voice is to thin for the blues sorry but its true.

  • grande!!!!!!!

  • I see the Date , but directly after the Death of Hendrix , he did his catalog in a Houston Club . < not his stile but somme songs sounded as though Hendrix was there , , seems he did a few in Cetral Park also . They were good friends ,

  • Johnny really put his special touch on that song, great recording, thanks 4 posting

  • Always thought Johnny Winter wasfaster & more articulate in his playing than Hendrix was live.

  • A true "Classic song", but I HEAR Jimi in some of Johnny's transitions & licks. Who could blame him? Not Me!! Love 'em both & have for OVER 40 years. Hey, Johnny, Thanks for the thrills & chills & memories.

  • Johnny is the bomb, I did see Alvin Lee do an amazing version of this in Detroit a long time ago

  • Hope God keep you healthy,as much as He can.

We love you Johnny you are a great guitarist !!!!!!

  • I used to be a Johnny Junkie in Seattle and on two occasions I sat at the same table as Al Hendrix ( circa early 80's ) who would come to see Johnny to see him play red house. It was a great thing to see Jimmy' dad rockin.

  • Yes. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform live at the "Capital Theatre" in Passaic, N.J. in 1972. Awesome!!!

  • DANG, Johnny is underrated -- doesn't his work here sound as good as Jimi's?

  • jimi hendrix had better rhythm in his playing and was more innovative

    but johnny winter is AMAZING

  • @kyle9371 well yeah you gotta give johnny some credit man hes blind ;)

  • This is better than Hendrix version.

  • @jeba189 i dunno i think jimis are a little better actually but johnnys version are very good too d:

  • Yea. Winters version is a bit more sloppy and all but i've always liked his tone and playing.

Hendrix version is a bit more artistic(?) if you can say that.

    Both versions are good though.

  • yeah som times when music gets to "perfect" its bad like axl rose from guns n roses he wants everythin gto be perfect in his ongs but there new cd sucks balls!!

  • @jeba189 liste to hendrix live

  • Johnny is a classic. (period).

  • nobody cares about ,why.

  • He played this at Winter Land in SF 1971 (72?) on his B-Day.

Edgar & "White Trash" was the main act and JW came on as a special guest. (It was of course a set up). Rick Derringer and JW rocked all night.

    Thanks for this post! LOL

    Memories are forever!

  • what cd is this on ??

  • Both Jimi's and Johnnie's version are GREAT! I enjoy them both, they both are in another world when it comes to playing the guitar! RIP Jimi......Keep playing Johnnie!...PLAY...it...LOUD!!!

  • Jon Paris is playing bass

  • Anyone know when this was recorded? Thanks,

  • check right up the side below the photo:on 10.04.1990

  • have you noticed that as johnny got older the lighter weighted guitars got? 10 more years and nothing but strings and fingers

  • actually hes been playin the same lazer for about 25 years now, and he still plays the big ass firebird too. of course he doesnt stand when he plays nemore poor guys always had health problems.

  • Tapping in on my step-daughter's handle.....she's got NO idea this even exists....in the days of rap there just seems no room for the heart that brought it all out.....saw JW at Whiskey in L.A. on the original strip in '69 and he was wailing on this then.....could easily make an evening of it ...AGAIN.........just TOO good......

  • it always amazes me how many people have never heard of Johnny Winter, this and Roy Buchanans version of this song are awesome

  • I am sure this is from 1990. Jeff Ganz is the bassist. Awesome.

  • Wow 1990s Johnny is one of my favorites. Hope He Is doing well.

  • Awesome, mind blowing. What can one say. So moving and in the groove.

  • Hold on this is a mind blower , have been a fan of Johny Winter since the mid 60s , Act III au Go Go , Houston to Vulcan Gas Comapy in Austin , He would walk in a jam with anyone .

Then Central Park and small Venues in NYC , this is one of the best . Atllanta Pop Festavle , Hendix proclaimed Winter the best , then he blew the power out , this is that Cool . Wow !

  • That's funny you guys think johnny sounds angry , he always sounds joyful to me. never dark . It seems johnny could play the song 4 different ways and they'd all be good , the guy can do no wrong

  • this is amazing guitar playing. he plays it better than hendrix.

  • "he plays it better than hendrix."

    Yeah, because he can.

  • I can't believe I am finally hearing this song again after all these years(36). This song was a tribute to Jimi Hendrix from Johnny not long after Jimi died. I was a kid back in the seventies and was listening to the king biscuit flower hour through a little transistor radio when this song was first played. This song was an amazing tribute and I can't believe I am hearing it after all these years. It sounds just as awesome as it did 36 years ago.Thank you xkcoupe for turning this on to youtube.

  • This man is amazing...

  • Never thought I would hear this. Johnny never ceases to improve

  • whata sound on the guitar, from witch album is this, want it in my mp3:), sounds like the sounds of the album barcelona boogie

  • Angry guitar, mean vocals. It's perfect.

  • Johnny's singing always sounds angrier than Jimmy's but the angry tone goes hand in hand with the song's meaning.

    ESTA CANCION EXTREMECE!!

  • Este tema me conmueve....... GRACIAS ; MUCHAS GRACIAS JOHNNY !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love them both ...

  • I love it. Just love it.

  • Amen

  • I though so 40 years ago and I still think so today: Johnny Winter was the best rock/blues guitar player coming out in the 1960's and this tune proves it!

  • Excellent! another great tune 'Winterized'!

  • Johnny is certainly the best and he can play anything. I once saw him do an encore of "Purple Haze", "Fire" and "Red House" and he did Jimi proud and then some! Where was this version of "Hey Joe" recorded?

  • WHAT YEAR IS THIS FROM ????

  • Johnny and Jimi loved each other. I've read this several times and have seen pictures of Johnny at Jimi's funeral. I miss Jimi so much:o(! Thank God we still have Johnny;o)!

  • munchkinsozland, I and the Laguna Beach people miss Jimi too. I hope that Johnny takes care of himself 'cause that talent is needed by guitar players as well as fans, for inspiration.

  • Johnny is the best. What a great version of Hey Joe.
