quick question.. i havent been curlin gmy hair lately because the iron doesnt work as well and i have those plastic rollers and as missmcc87 said, they are very annoying to sleep in :[ in the beginning of the video you mentioned pillow rollers? i saw a video once and the lady was saying she made her own. im not sure if their the same ones your talking about but id really love to curl my hair like this. do you know anything about that?

@dollydesii sponge and pillow rollers are much easier to sleep in than the type you are currently using. Go to ebay and type in 'pillow rollers' You'll see a wide variety of options to buy. Also, make sure to check out my video 'Roll With Me' which discusses the pros and cons of several different types of rollers.

I usually use wire rollers (the kind with the plastic net sleeve ever them), but sleeping in them is annoying and sometimes I really don't have the time to sit under my bonnet dryer. However, I find that foam and pillow rollers make my hair frizzy. Is it getting frizzy because I am rolling my hair wet instead of damp?

@MissMcc87 most cold sets cause some frizz...some more than others. Probably you need to keep brushing. The more you brush, the less frizz will be apparent.

I really like this look, I don't have sponge/pillow rollers (yet!) where I'm living now, do you think I could get this look with pin curls? Maybe standup ones?

Sponge/Pillow rollers are available almost everywhere...but you can use rag rollers for a similar effect. Cut up an old towel into strips about an inch wide. Roll your hair around them and tie. Super cute as a set but makes great curls. Pincurls might look too 'smooth' when you brush them out.

A word about pillow rollers: They don't allow your hair to breathe, and therefore dry, as quickly as sponge rollers. I recommend using less hair per roller and not rolling hair that is too wet. :) Good luck!

Do you have coarse or naturally curly hair? If so, this may not be the best curling method for you. Let me know your hair texture and I'll try to help you achieve this look another way. :)

Have you tried putting any sort of product such as setting lotion on the curls while putting them up? It can help with the frizz plus it sets the curl. I am trying it with pillow rollers tonight.

If they're very short...part the hair in the middle and turn the curled bangs toward each other like 'kiss curls'. Still in keeping w/ the look and very authentic.

I roll my hair in most of my videos...I use sponge rollers in The Gil Elvgren Inspired Pin Up Look and the Ballentyne Look.

I'm afraid you won't see me do any vintage straight hair styles since they virtually didnt exist. No one had straight hair in the forties; if they weren't born w/ naturally curly hair...they curled it. The closest thing to 'straight' would be the pageboy but it was still achieved w/ a pincurl set. I might do some fifties styles later, which are a bit more 'sleek' but curling will still be involved, along the bottom. Sorry...:)

I love your videos, I'm finally starting to get down how to use hot rollers and sporting the bettie bangs. Can you make any recommendations for how to keep your curls in longer throughout the day? And maybe make a video on how to do victory rolls slowly, you do them soo fast!

Humidity plays a HUGE factor in making the curls last, unfortunately. I do know that using a cold set like the one pictured here helps immensely as does allowing the curls to cool completely before spraying them. Try doing tight curls like the ones in this video...they will relax through the day but you will still have curls at night!

Thanks Elolinona. It's very simple. Just part dry hair in the middle. Then take small sections (you can see how much I put on each roller in the video), spray with water, and roll under. Roll almost to the scalp, but not quite. No rhyme or reason to it really. Then place a scarf over it lightly and sleeeep. :)
