People buy these alarm systems for security but they aren't so great. Most of them run off of the phone system. Outside of the house is a box with a phone jack in it. This is where the system is connected to the house. All a criminal has to do is is unscrew one screw and disconnect the phone line. The system is then easily disarmed. Some run on cable and some on wireless. They are better. Even better is a big dog.
@rooster26730 First of all the system will not disarm itself if the phone line is cut. Thats a old myth spread by idiots. It will not disarm itself until the right code is punched in on the keypad. Second 60% of homes in the united states don't have phone lines so adt Always suggests a cellular backup. Which sends the signal through cell towers without a phone line. And if a system misses a dialer test adt notifies the homeowner that something is wrong.

I also stated that not every alarm system is hooked up by the phone line so you are being redundant. If they have it run through their cable you only have to disconnect or cut the cable. When the alarm company calls the homeowner they won't even know why they are no longer getting a signal and adt won't even call 911.
Why pay expensive monitoring/services charges etc, when you can monitor your own security alarm/security camera direct through your mobile phone. Fitted one in my place, and INSTANTLY alerts me of any intruder outside the window day or night with a visual photo of the intruder. Best alarm security ever, and no false alarms whatsoever. I can also dial in and listen to sounds etc, and is unaffected if phone line is cut. All this for a one off payment of £150.

My personal opinion is that you should look at other options that are way more customer friendly and can use technology that was made in the 21st century like VOIP or the internet.
Bottom Line do not use ADT Home or Business Security Service.

You would only be trapped into the contract if you didn't read the terms and conditions. Buyer beware, but the sales rep should have told you what you were signing for anyway. Do you not have consumer protection with a least a year's warranty on the hardware in your country?

Avoid ADT at all costs! They have me trapped in a contract for 3 years, they won't fix my alarm so its usless and I'm paying for service i'm not getting. There are multiple class action law suits against them. Any security company is better than them, avoid avoid avoid!

Let me start off by saying I work for an alarm comapny, i'm in the monitoring station.
1. We do not know what the 4 digit code is to disarm a system, that is something the customer makes up.
2. If the power goes out, there are many large generators that supply back up power to run the systems.
