Hmm...that's debatable. We won't even get into the whole 'who invented more musical genres debate' here. Wouldn't be fair. The Brits, for the most part, think that punk started in the UK with the Sex Pistols, but it actually goes way back to the American garage groups in the early/mid 60's who were called "punk."
@alabaster30 Is that really what the Brits think? Someone clearly forgot to tell me. Of those American garage groups you talk of, there's also the whole British Invasion shit to consider. No one country invents a genre. Shit gets mashed up from all manner of sources.
Dear Vevo, Let me start by sayin get your corporate asses off youtube! Ever since these big companies started paying off youtube so they could post their friggin videos we can't post ours. We are flagged for infringement every time we include a song we like in our videos. This is YOUtube the place where w can post OUR videos If we wanted to listen to music from you we'd go to your damn website. To people who want greedy corporates gone thumbs up and copy and paste this on Vevo
@alabaster30 or some other new romantic shit which no one even remembers nowdays..oh shit but everyone knows REM nowdays..KARMA motherfuckersssssssssss~!!!!
@wreyoG Actually REM were critically popular in the UK despite the relatively small amount of record company promo in the UK at the time and the audiences were pretty fanatical. I think there's a section in the Remarks biography that talks of how one English audience knew the lyrics to Wolves, Lower, better than Stipe did.
I guess you spend a lot of time in television studios where they're broadcasting a band live? and it was a couple of years after 1983 before r.e.m. did any genius work.
who is your favourite band? Radiohead? Nirvana? Placebo? They wouldn't be here without R.E.M. Murmur is the most influential album of the alternative music.
my favouritie band is the rolling stones from from _exile..._ to _undercover of the night_ (after that they lost their way) But since 1981, r.e.m. is the best band america has to offer. I just think 'radio free europe' reveals some of r.e.m.'s potential for genius but without such future releases as, _reckoning_, _fables of..._ et al, this song wouldn't have gone as far as timbuk3 and 'the future's so bright...)' peace
I love the Rolling stones too! But I think R.E.M. have always been more interesting and mysterious and... I can't explain why but I love them. I know they have had bad moments (I hate Around the sun) but they will always be the best band of the world...to me.
here's a short list of r.e.m. songs I prefer to 'losing my religion'-- 'driver 8', 'swan swan h', 'turn you inside out', 'e-bow the letter', 'departure' (especially the lyric, what a fuck up, what a fighter,) 'fireplace', 'me in honey', 'texarkana', just because we disagree on 'losing my religion' it doesn't mean I don't know anything-- I've been listening to this band for more than 25 years so I do know something, stupid
There is no doubt that losing my religion is a good song and very digestible but not necessarily the best song this because if we see the technical side "REM" is best composite compositions.
@DrMichaelHfuhruhurr My comment was posted 2 years ago. It may have been the first one. I honestly didn't know they were British. No offense meant but hey, how can you not dig the shit out of this song? R.E.M. = Genius.
@atheistphilosopher it was a double-edged joke, your comment was right, but, as far as philosophy goes, it was obvious and not insulting to Britain ( reading your first comment and mine, neither of us mentioned it, I don't know why you brought that up ) and REM are genius, thanks again for the insight XD
Never been much of an R.E.M. fan but love this tune

Looking back on this, I can tell what happens in the future for these guys. It's like watching telly, but being magic at the same time.
There's not point in watching live telly, because you can't be magic in the same way.
