The 'Firefly Platform' was the small folk music stage at the back of the One Tun pub, on Goodge Street. Pub's still there, but the stage is long gone.
I've loved this song since the 1st time I heard it, I can't remember where it was, but Donovan was my idol back in the 60's and was really dissapointed with his work after the Sunshine Superman album.
A truly beautiful song from one of Britain's, indeed the world's, greatest songwriters. I love the studio, orchestrated version of this hugely, but to watch Donovan's marvellous and knowledgeable guitar playing coupled with that superb voice makes one appreciate true talent, a real songwriter. Another superb song of his is Get Thy Bearings...what an arrangement on an awesome composition.
I remember this song from my youth, hearing Judy Collins sing it. I was thrilled to hear Donovan do it, too. But where can I find this version? I have Fairytale and that version doesn't sound like this at all. It's all slicked up with violins. Where is the recording of this?
I love the guitar work in this song, its almost mystifying. Beautiful song, I'm so glad I stumbled upon it. I can't get it out of my head now :) can't wait to try to figure it out on the guitar
@IAmTheWoodenDoors You got it right with the clothes but I think he's just sitting on the edge of the water ...on a dock or something...I can't see the structure he's sitting on moving against the backdrop of the water at all...as it would if it were something floating in water.
Forgot to say thanks for posting this, lovely simple & evocative track - now listen to Nickel Creek 'When You Come Back Down', you won't be disappointed.
1970, walking up Goodge Street in fair weather, smoking dope in LSE halls of residence, and listening to Donovan with the only woman I have ever been in love with - this track still shakes me up, saddens & elevates me all at once, even after 31 years... beautiful.
@shinjukugewalt i think this song was much more than a prelude to Nick Drake. He was redefining what popular music could be, this was years ahead of its time. He is in the same category as John Lennon or Dylan that way. And a lot more fun to listen to than Nick Drake! Not to mention someone who actually touched millions.

Wow - I used to watch this one every day until it disappeared, and I was devastated! Thanks for bringing it back! His guitar playing here is so beautiful, and his voice is so sweet.
@Concatelli This particular Video was originally aired on Swedish Television in 1966. I do not know where some of the others such as "ballad of Geraldine" or "Little Tin SOldier" are from. Look like he made promo films that for some reason never were shown anywhere.

"knowledgeable guitar playing"
please...he's not exactly Segovia. He's playing simple arpeggios.
And as far as "world's, greatest songwriters"....really? Guess you never heard of The Beatles or Bob Dylan.
The costume though, is ridiculous.

Good song, but his outfit and the fact that he walks to and sits down in a boat to play it is a bit funny.
