  • These were my neighbors when I grew up in Detroit...too bad this era of music will only be known to people like us

  • Unknown fact - all the musicians on this album are part of the "Funk Brothers" from the Motown house studio band....Hearing this album started me on my musical path! Thank you Dramatics and Thank You God!

  • Sing it Ronnie.

  • No group like them!! Ron Banks Lenny Mays you will be terribly missed

  • Thanks for posting this. I love this song!

  • THE DETROIT SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PLAYED ON THIS ALBUM (DRAMATIC THEME) TREAT ME LIKE A MAN , DRAMA V HAS THE BEST COLLECTION OF SONGS 4 SONG , THAN ANY OF THERE ALBUMS , NEVERTHE LESS MY BOYS 4 EVER ,WILLIE, LENNY, SQUIRREL, L.J & RON .

    the group.classic era

  • @StevieSoul7 Right On Mi Brutha! Ron Banks and The Dramatics Were The SHIT!!! But You Had To Be Real Playas Like Us To Really Dig Them. Thank you Ron Banks, L J Reynolds, Squirrel, and The Rest Of The Dramatics For Instilling In Me The Real Way To Mack To A Woman.

  • RON BANKS was always the life of the party!!!!!

  • remember the forge in warrensville in cleveland, that was the last of the real clubs and songs like this, everyone partied and had a good time during and after the club when we alleat breakfast there befor we went our way...derrick elie in brazil on youtube, miss you all god bless

  • PARTIED WITH THESE BOYS N CLEVELAND,OH...HAD FUN THAT NIGHT N THE PERSON I WAS WITH,,,I THINK OF EVERYTIME I HEAR THIS SONG.

  • Can you believe that the first time I heard this song, it was being performed by Leslie Uggams!! She did a great job with it also. I think this is one of the Dramatics best cuts ever!!! Mr. Banks, Ford, Mays, Demps, and Reynolds were amazing and their group name, DRAMATICS, is so appropriate!!

  • wow. love how they sped up the drums for the hook, representing his external/ internal struggle of him

  • omg I tell you I love the Dramatics I soooo remember this song back in the 70's I played this song out

  • I'm 36....I got my hands on a Dramatics Greatest Hits tape back in 1988 and been hooked ever since I feel as though I want to live in their music it just makes you feel so good you don't want to leave you find yourself hitting repeat over and over again. Thank you for the ride Ron Banks

  • @MAHDEER I'm hooked too! I'm 53 years old and joined the Air Force in 1976 (fresh out of the Pentecostal Church). The AF was a boring life for a young black man back then. My hobbies were going to school and going to the record store every pay day to buy 4 albums. Yessssssss! I have their entire collection, well preserved on vinyl and still enjoy them today

  • I love Ron Banks and the Dramatics. i am so sorry to hear about his death. RIP. I came here today to listen to his music not knowing he had died. I lost my mom on 9-29-09 So i too am sad. To his family I am so sorry for your lost. Great voices.

  • RON BANKS IS A LEGEND. HE WILL NEVER DIE. HE WILL LIVE THROUGH ALLTHE INCREDIBLE MUSIC OF THE DRAMATICS!!! THE DRAMATICS ARE AND WERE THE MOST EXPLOSIVE GROUP OUTSIDE OF THE TEMPTATIONS!! REAL CATS KNOW ABOUT RON BANKS AND HIS DRAMATICS...THEY WERE SOME SOME BAD MUTHA!!##*!!s. RON IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS EDDIE KENDRICK AND SMOKEY ROBINSON...HIS CONTRIBUTION TO SOUL MUSIC SHOULD NOT BE OVER LOOKED!! THANK U RON FOR BEING MY HERO,INSPIRATION AND MENTOR!! I WILL NEVR FORGET YOU RON!!REST IN PEACE!!

  • One of their greatest album sides.....Ron has left us with a wealth of his lead vocals......one of the greatest vocal groups ever.

  • RIP my homeboy Ron Banks

  • RIP Ron Banks

  • This song reminds me of my uncle RIP Derrick

  • lotta feel good power in that chorus

  • everybody missed a greats song

  • Another great group from Detroit

  • Now, at 1:22 of this song where L.J. says and no one would notice the saddness in my heart, (the word Heart) how did L.J.s voice all of a sudden change to Ron Banks high voice. What i am saying is just listen to it. the very same voice that said "the saddness in my heart" is the same voice that eventually goes to the Ron Banks high pitch in the words saddness in my (heart). Now either they were the most talented or they were able to make one voice fade out while the other one fades in?????

  • Studio edit! they both sung the verses and we just faded one over the other.

  • @77757891 the dramatics was well known for that

  • really underrated group they were just as good or better than other similar groups. I say ron at the supermarket last year and we talked a minute so I explained how I thought the group didn't get its just due. He calmly said "hey man it was a great ride"

  • YES, I spoke to him occasionally; he was so humble and kind.

  • BBBAAADDDDD! and I do mean good! O love this song!!!

  • hella soulful

  • wonderddul song my friends. i first heard this in 1979 when i was 8 yrs old. i understand the song now. it is a deep song for all us men who have been in that situation.

  • This was a song I remember from High school it got me through a bad break up.

  • Damn!! I still remember all the words to this song. My opinion one of the very best Dramatic songs made. Ron Banks and L.J Reynolds sang the shit out of this song. One

  • This so so smooth, but i'm sure it has happen to someone, or going to.

  • Nice version of this by Leslie Uggums on her Motown l.p. from the 70's.

  • Absolutely!!!!! I thouht I was he only person who'd ever heard it!!!!

  • this song captures and embraces the essence and tenor in mood, tempo and mindset of the day to day in the late

    1970s early 1980s on chicago's westside.

  • This kind of silky soul music just makes you breathe a little slower and makes you feel sooooo Gooood ! Blackness at it's very best. You see, the Nappy makes me Happy !

  • Now this was one of my number one dramatics songs. I dont know It just had a cool upbeat to it. and yes, I am a dramatics fanatic!!!!!

  • Beautiful!

  • today im ' just very grateful, for my life..and that i can still just come here ..and listen to good music.....

  • And oh yeah, you think the Corporation (Berry Gordy's writing team for the Jackson 5) sued these cats for them licks, Hell No, because its was commonplace a common practice now everybody wants to complain about hip hop but real producers are payin' these cats.

  • As a young music maker Id like to point out that early music at its foundation was based off of standards, covers, an improversation, that is groups imitating or rearranging known songs to make new recordings Ray charles did it with gospel, so did Motown, stax did tons of covers Isaac hayes, Otis, etc, so my point is is that older people need to consider that it was deliberate conspiracy in the lifestyle changes in Black America that hurt us that hurt our music not SAMPLING not young muscians

  • This is the shit right here love it, love it, the Dramatics have good albums song for song, this song and Happy by

Eddie Kendrics off the Hitman album just blew me away first time I put the needle to the record man, talkin' bout FEEL GOOD, those songs are awesome....1:25 that change, magic sounds like ABC by the Jacksons but the background vocals are amazing an the story the writing these cats are masters....Im buyin' this for my computer amazon mp3' i Need this already got the record...

  • Wowsers....mega classic!!

  • They made some great hits that will go down N my memory from a child growing up N the early 70's.When it came 2 stepping they 2 me were just as good or even better than the temptation thats my opinion.

  • I remember a friend introduced me the Dramatics music back in 1979. My heart was broken and all I coiuld do was weep for her..oh that love.londo didn't seem so great those days..I became a Dramatics fan from the time I heard IN THE RAIN.

Funny how love has changed.I no longer think of her,but the music remained.

  • FANTASTIC song!! Wish I had been around during the 70s because the music from that era was truly magical. Now that MAGIC and SPARK is currently lacking in today's music. What happened to it?? Can someone PLEASE bring it back??!! Lol...anyhoo, thanks for this post! I've been listening to this non-stop since yesterday! :-)

  • This entire album was great. I fell in love with "Just Shopping" day one and went and bought the album which I still have today. I'm just now starting to post to my account. Take a visit sometime or another.

  • Nice song. HUH, is that the eBay symbol? lol

  • I was a major fan in high school. They were so regal when they performed! Their ballads told some beautiful stories. Thank you. 5*

  • We had gold!

  • used to go to sleep on the Dramatics albums every nite, could not understand why my buddies slept on the Dramatics, they were from the neighborhood so disrespect was rampant i guess?.. had to semi-hide my enthusiasim, but did see them every time i could at Cobo Hall, Masonic Temple, etc...what a period that was for me. look at their body of work, it is 2nd to none...name 1 other group of young men that put out 1 album every year for 2 decades while charting locally AND nationally, you can't

  • The Isley's

  • thank you for the post you just don't know how it took me back this use to be my song god was i in love those were the days to old now to love like that but i can sit here and smile and think back to a wonderful time in my life so young and naive sucha good time i know to much now smile

  • I never heard this, who made the up tempo 'Life of the party' back in the day?Had the hook "I was the life of the paaarty yeah".

  • Great Album! Yes, I got it too. The Dramatics were/are a great group. They were my "Temptations"

  • They don't have to be your "Temptations". They can just be your "Dramatics". But, I know what you're saying, I guess. Peace.

  • I meant to say a bad "song".

  • This was a bad long...I played it over and over....

  • yo the dramatics tore this up Ronnie Banks blows this one-he lived across the street from me and I remember he and the dramatics rehearsed all the time-his brother was my age and we were best friends growing up-he sang in the group the five special-whoa this brings back memories-thanks!!

  • Wow - - I love both the Drmatics & Five Special! No wonder Five special's harmony was so good on "Why Leave Us Alone".
