To go with the comments that scaring can be dangerous. Yes it can be, but people who are appearing on the show most likely have to sign forms stating if they have any serious medical issues (including heart problems, which scaring pranks would be linked with). So I am sure that the Ellen Show takes its precautions when scaring people.
