There needs to be one finch of each sex and the female can lay eggs by herself but they won't be fertile so you do need a boy and girl to have baby's. Think of it like poultry chooks no boy = fried eggs. Yes boy = baby's
Listen people if you want your finch to be tame like hers and mine you need to dedicate yourself for about a month to ten weeks I start when their 2 weeks old and if you want them to talk say the same phrase/word/whistle in the same tone heaps. You can train them but mine only comes to his name and plays dead.
How utterly cute!! I bred scads of finches years and years ago and was never able to get them tame enough to fly on to my finger. Now, I've bred scads of cockatiels and they are trained to step up on my finger. Good job with your finches!
Oh when I it a good Ideal to let them out the cage this is my 3rd day having them is it too early to let them out sure I let them get use to the cage more
I got 2 how did you train yours to land on your hand I want mine to do that to is letting them out of the cage evey now and then bad for them and is it a bad ideal please answers back thanks
Ohh! How did you get him to stand on your finger? My zebra finch (and all my finches) don't trust people and they don't like me to even get near the cage! how did you do it?
mines flys out of the house one time and the next day when i walk out side and wissle and when i look behind me she was behind me and i guess shes bonded with me she even follows me in the house
Ok this is a serious question do birds have to mate to have eggs like have intercourse with the oppsite gender or does it just happen migically like they have eggs every season please help and message me.

@PCgamer238 funny heres the trick give em lots of treats and then carefully put one hand in the cage and wait paitently till they come and then carefully get them out of the cage . i have 11 total and they are flying around my house i leave a seprate room for them so they are happy oh my room is the garage i put tons of toys
omg how do u train them to go on ur finger, i hav a pair and they r scared silly of me :( sometimes if i put my finger where they stand to eat they will stand on my finger while they eat but r really jumpy, so how did u/do u train them (idk how old they r got them for my birthday in may)
@1k1ll3rp0ll0 he the male have a red cheek the female is just plain color oh the female are easier totrain if your a boy while the male needs a girl my cousin did it once
You don't MAKE him do anything. You have to earn their trust. Also it is best to start taming them when they're babies, because only God knows what older Finches have been through in the shop. Anyway buy from an aviculturist .
Wow! How did you do that? Mine had babies a couple months ago, and one came out white! That one will let me handle it to an extent. The other female is like her Daddy, really flighty. The son is like his Mom, pretty mellow. The Mamma bird clings to the side of the cage and barks at me if I need to add food. Their behavior is really intresting.
I fell in love with Zebra Finches and i decided to buy a pair. I've done a lot of research and know how to keep them well, but i have a few questions.
If i'm ever to let them out of their cage, is there something i should do to keep them safe besides covering up the windows and mirrors? I simply don't have space for a bird room. Also, assuming they're not tamed, are they going to return to their cage eventually or will they keep trying to escape from the house?
Finches are really good at flying. I never cover up my mirrors or windows and they have never run into either. My cockatiels on the other hand seem to always fly straight into a wall. Getting finches back in the cage may seem like it would be hard but it really isn't. First of all, they will go back there on their own at night. And if you want to get them in sooner, I've found that putting some fresh lettuce on the bottom of their cage lures them back pretty well. Good luck!
@blackeyedsiouxsie I've never had any trouble with my budgies or finches flying into things. But I have had my Cockatiel for 5 years, and he is let out every day for a few hours, but he STILL flies into windows and walls.
birds will only usually come out when they are used to your background but its best to let them out when they are tamed as its waaay easier to get them back in their cage.
finches aere my fave, and I was always sad because I thought they were untame birds ^.^ now I know otherwise, I may see where I can locate a couple of hand-raised finches, or learn myself up so I can hand-raise a couple.
Very cool. I think you're right about the hand raising them from babies. I have a quail I hatched and raised as a lone chick. She's extremely tame and will come when called.
The only way to do it is to raise them from when they are babies. I have finches that aren't tame that let me get really close, but they don't land on me. As much as I love them I don't know if I'd recommend taming finches. They seem to get on people's nerves lol. They think freckles are removable.
@monjanse
No they do not bite hard and when they bite it tickles but at night mine is aggressive and leaves beak marks on your finger
